    I really liked this tutorial. I actually use a similar method on my own black power armoured minis. Prime black, then hit from above with grey. Dry brush the edges with a slightly lighter grey, then drown the armour in a wash I mixed up using airbrush thinner and Army Painter dark tone. I find it flows better than neat Nuln Oil, but it does often take two coats.

    This was the most important painting video for me, so far. I also always had the problem that dry brushing made my miniatures to agree, although using wash afterwards. Additionally, though I do like the look of the H highlighted models, I am not good at it, nor do I have the time to apply this for the majority of my miniatures. So, your video is an absolute game changer for me. I just started off a raven guard. Army and I thought that black armor is easier than the rest. In fact, I realized that black army is much harder than other colors. But using the contrast method will speed up my process with decent results significantly. Although I will be using gray seer as a primer and not a metallic color. Thank you again.

    Never would've thought to dry brush metallic paint over non metallics, I was going to do skavenblight dinge and eshen grey over abaddon black but this looks legit, even that Black Templar contrast paint came out smooth (I'm slowly starting to use contrast paints, as I am also kinda skeptical of them). Currently have 10 Assault Intercessors waiting to be painted as Black Templars, might try this method on some of them to see which I like more.

    I have a Black Templar army that I've been building up over the last year, I've never painted anything to a serious degree before, and I've been super nervous about it! For whatever reason this whole video has been incredibly easy to follow along with and the result looks so simple, yet so good! I may try to put my own spin on it and make my own little subfaction of Black Templars and paint their tabbards red instead!

      @MediocreHobbies I've got a ton put together already, and way more left to go! I can honestly start whenever I like! I've got the next three days off, I may stop at my LGS and get those paints you used along with some brushes! I have a rattlecan of Vallejo black primer that I picked up awhile back. Do you think that'd work well to prime my minis?

    • @MediocreHobbies
      @MediocreHobbies  Рік тому +1

      @@Dr._Nope Awesome, love to hear you're motivated and get to ready on them! Remember it's only paint, and you can fix mistakes and even start over so there's nothing to be nervous about! I always use two coats of primer, a coat of black and then for Black Templars I also use GW Leadbelcher but you can easily just brush on a base coat if you don't want to spend the money on a rattle can of silver. The Vallejo black will work great!

    • @Dr._Nope
      @Dr._Nope Рік тому

      @MediocreHobbies That sounds like a plan to me! I like the sound of that! I may pick up some painter's tape and do a white/red bi-color design with black cross transfer over the top for the shoulder pads of my marines and on my vehicles as well! I really love that design! I was thinking about it for awhile cause those are the colors of the Maltese flag and that's a familial thing for me that I always wanted to put a spin on. That's what got me into Black Templars and 40K in the first place, it was cause I'm Maltese, it immediately gave me that personal relationship with the faction! The idea of further tieing those two worlds together always seemed really neat to me. When I saw you use that same white/red with black cross design that I had imagined while working on your recent Cerastus Knight Lancer video, you really cemented that idea for me! It looked spectacular, I loved the contrast that gave off! And the fact that you used something as simple as painter's tape to create that dividing line nailed in that eureka moment for me! I'm kinda just nerding out here and going on a huge tangent, but I'm really happy I found your videos! It helped me realize that I can actually do this, that painting can actually be easy and fun, and I can put my own my own spin to it without getting in over my head too quickly! So thank you for that!!!

      It’s easier in my opinion to just wet your brush and wash off the zandri dust then trying to fix the black. But if you get it on the black and don’t notice before it dries you can just silver and reapply the Templar. It won’t match exactly but if it’s a small but nobody will notice. I'm not happy with most of black schemes, because they mostly have long and painful blue highlights to do (and with blue it doesn't feel really black anymore) and your scheme kinda reassemble some "grimdark" black armor that I saw and I like it
    I might use them for my fallen/30k Dark angels and see if it goes well on them !

    I’ve bought an Army Set and a BT Combat Patrol, to start a BT army - will be my first time building and painting - seen so many videos but I love the look and the “simplicity” of your methods. Just two questions: when you do the leadbelcher spray ( airbrushing right ? ) you just apply a thin coat evenly or you do a zenithal with it ?

    • @goncaloproenca8831
      @goncaloproenca8831 Місяць тому

      Btw, I say “simplicity” because almost every single “speed painting” video I see of BT, envolves hours of edge highlighting and yours, seems…. Well, trully “approachable” but I love the final look ! Eager to start due to your video !

    • @MediocreHobbies
      @MediocreHobbies  Місяць тому

      That’s exactly the aim with this channel-make things simple to do while still getting a great result!
      With the primer-I do a solid coat of Chaos Black first and then another spray of Leadbelcher(you can airbrush or hand brush it on but if you’re doing a army of these guys it’s worth just getting the rattle can to save time and sanity!) It’s just a regular spray of Leadbelcher all over- metallic sprays don’t adhere as well to plain plastic so you need the black undercoat. Hope that helps and good luck with your Black Templars! Always ask more questions if you need to!
