I'm 29 now, and listening to this is like stepping into a time machine. It's incredible. It reminds me of everything we lost. It makes me think of how bland modern music is. Think about this for a second. Back when this track came out, everyone thought "eww bland nu-metal trash". Even Hoobastank admitted that they had no formal understanding of music theory whatsoever. And yet, listening to this now, after the progressive dumbing-down of music into autotuned, quantized, shellacked turds, it sounds like fucking Mozart. It has compositional complexity that today's music lacks. Listen to that intro riff. I mean, this actually has a melody. It's not just some house beat with monotone grunting layered over it. It's really pathetic, just how far we've fallen.

@@Censord its the sound effect being used on the intro guitar riff before the band kicks in. It’s usually in the form of a pedal that intentionally produces a phenomenon called “phasing” or “being out of phase”. I cant explain it in scientific terms but think its when frequencies in the tonality are slightly misaligned so it produces that swooshing sound.

Damn I'm 36 already... Call me old fart, but this was a period when mainstream music was actually good. I mean, just compare this (along with Linking Park, System Of A Down, Disturbed...) to what passes for music these days... And during this period I was mostly into punk and metal, but over time I learned to appreciate this.

For just a seconds worth of how my story's ending
And I wish I could know if the directions that I take
And all the choices that I make won't end up all for nothing
    Show me what it's for
    Make me understand it
I've been crawling in the dark
    Looking for the answer
    Is there something more
    Than what I've been handed?

    Assure me it's ok to

    Will the ending be
    Ever coming suddenly?
Will I ever get to see
    The ending to my story?

2001 when I was 5 years old. Best music best movies best tv shows happiest memories. I'd give anything to go back to them days back when days were so much brighter. All I can say is keep the memories alive because the best music was made from 1983 to 2013. 3 decades of good music but only 12 years of Bliss.
I have a famous quote for all my fellow 90's and 2000's kids
: The bad news is time flies the good news is you're the pilot.
Another one i dedicate to all of you is : In the end it's not the years that count it's the life in your years.
My final one is : Life is not a problem to be solved but an experience to be Had.
Don't worry fellow 1990's/2000's kids i know the beautiful times we had growing up will be resurrected someday but keep holding on to these precious memories because made a quote myself for that - We were born to remember not to forget we experience good and bad in our lives so carry on and heal the legacy don't burn it down to the ground.

Crawling in the Dark is the only song that I would consider listening to by Hoobastank now. When it was first coming out I was mentoring a bunch of young people at the local fire department and one of them introduced me to the song. It just connected to me, in such a way. To me, it summed up what it was like to go into a burning fire, and the internal monologue you have with yourself. We use to joke that our station would make a hell of a TV show, and one day I suggested it would be only if the theme song was Crawling in the Dark...I got a few crossed looks at first, then for the longest time, when the alarm would drop, several of us would play the song in our heads....sorry just felt I needed to share that story.

Yeah I despised The Reason with a passion when that got played to death and I was ready to write this band off forever but then I heard this song and I changed my tune, I also liked "Next Direction"(which was featured in the movie "Catwoman").
