- This year’s Battle of the Nutcrackers features four unique and celebrated versions: The Nutcracker (Youri Vámos; 2009), Royal Opera House’s The Nutcracker (2012), Bolshoi Ballet: The Nutcracker, and The Nutcracker: Mariinsky 2012.
Since Tchaikovsky created The Nutcracker almost 125 years ago, it’s become a worldwide sensation. Battle of the nutcrackers is Ovation’s holiday present to the families of America, a playful twist on the holiday tradition. Now in its eighth year.

Each Christmas, I choose a bit of The Nutcracker and watch all the performances that I can find. Last year it was the Hot Chocolate dance. This year it is the Waltz of the Flowers. I watch the professional troops and the schools and the local schools that have few students. It is so instructive to see how the choreography is adjusted to each level of skill. This video by Mariinsky is so beautiful in every way.
waltz of the flowers is really emotive, brings back a lot of magical memories of being a child
Jules Hitchen I miss being a child tbh.

I love this variation of flowers, I just wished their costumes had more color so that they looked more like flowers and less like snowflakes
Awh I was not expecting those flowers to get lifted like that!!
Incredible Sublime music Nothing compares to the Russian ballet mariinsky
春の花が満開🌸のようなバレエですね、素敵です。
Me: *falls into a trance whenever I hear this song* Wow, so gorgeous! Sad that nobody makes music this beautiful anymore
I used to take ballet but quit after a year because I couldn't bother to improve my terrible flexibility, but I've seen the Nutcracker ballet twice. When I saw it the second time, there weren't any men dancing with the ladies who were playing as the flowers. Still, very beautiful, now I'm wishing I didn't quit ballet.
Emily Hill The massive joint trauma as you age isn't the best thing ever, though 😔
Emily Hill I practiced ballet from the age four and pretty much quit at age 17 - my senior year. I was always petite, however, I had this ridiculous growth spur over the summer becoming a junior. I’m 5’11 now. My instructor told me to forget about ballet. This was in 1996 when companies were still particular about size and height. I still put on my toe shoes and leap around the house. I wish I didn’t listen to my instructor. I am beginning to have joint issues in one of my knees. And I suffer with bunions and hammer toes. I am proud of my strange dancers feet.
You can always go back and start over. You never know until you try.

Absolutely beautiful. What is it about the rich, velvety tones of a French horn that stirs my soul?

近代バレエとは違い、華やか且つ上品なクラシックバレエが好きです。これほどまでに美しきことに、心打たれない人はいないでしょう。
This is more demure and classical whilst the Bolshoi's is whimsical and graceful. Both are amazing but this seems to go along with the the title, "Waltz" more.
Actually Bolshoi feels a like departure all together since even though it feels like the traditional Nutcracker it puts its own spin on it in certain dances
Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Piano, Organ, Trumpet and Harp are my favourite intruments
They have a heart
CoreyCoolDude Gaming as a violinist I am honored.
It is performed every year in the world but it is especially beautiful!
Thanks to Svetlana Petrova!!
Before I had pointe shoes I thought ballet was so boring. Until I got them I felt like I was dancing on magic! oh and I felt so tall when I went on my toes.
Say hello to crippling foot problems later in life.
Yes true... XD
i just googled ballerina feet.......... Don't do it...lol The dancing is pretty but honestly? i don't think it's worth losing your toenails and having pain all day...
Aryella it’s definitely worth it
@@federica9090 you don't know anything about people suffering for their art. Just keep quiet
BOLSHOI BALLETTO N° 1 AL MONDO
I love to watch different companies and their changes they do with the Nutcracker. This was a very beautiful performance of the Waltz of the Flowers.
This version is lovely and is my 2nd favorite. But the one that will never be topped is the American Ballet Theater version (1977) starring Mikhail Baryshnikov and Gelsey Kirkland.
Magnifique !
Personally, I like it when this is done by all ladies. They are the flowers, after all.
Romantic era so graceful and sheer beauty.
Mariinski never disappoints
Absolutely beautiful 💐, majestic, wonderful, and fascinating!
Buns of steel right here
Lol I just had to do it
Beautiful.Absolutely beautiful.
I really like the dewdrop variation but under my perspective, a waltz was made to be danced partnered 🙊.
Vaganova students are so amazing!
this is really really good and i'm not even a balletfan. Masterclass!
잘해요
I hope someday I'll be able to do something half as beautiful as this
Just gorgeous xx
Какая красота и великолепие!
As an American, the Russians have it spades when it comes to ballet. This was in 2012 and it's now 2023. The costumes are brilliant and so are the wigs. Perfection.
Une féerie!
Working on a piano version of this. :)
I danced to this once. :) I LOVED dancing to it! (I was the very first flower on stage.)
Beautiful dance performed by professional dancers
Que elegancia la de Francia.
What?
This is Russia, the Mariinsky theatre.
@@user-sx3wy7mh9g Is a Joke in latin america when you see something artistic from europe.
@@Ingkirilov Actually, the birthplace of ballet is Italy.
Beautifully performed to a smashin piece of music😎
Seeing those tight pants is bringing back flashbacks from when I did ballet, the fear or things happening and pure terror of having to wear one in front of friends and family, I saw it as motivation in a way, If I dance correctly and superbly then hopefully nobody will notice how tight that was.
아 그런데 너무 잘춘다
그리고 너무 예쁘다...
Magnificent!
MARAVILLOSO...😍😍😍
Beautiful x
Too wonderful. It's a treasure for humanity. Of course, I have a favorite ballet company in my hometown, but I think it would be better to introduce this choreography and other things.
Encantador a apresentação como essa lendária obra.
Beautifully performed by the dancers and the orchestra😎👏👏

Whoever edited this new recording of Mariinsky's Nutcracker should be fired... the whole thing has too much closeups that last for too many minutes, ballet is not about faces, it's about the entire body

아름답습니다
So pretty 😍

오 예쁘네용
I noticed the people in the back only after 5 minutes of watching. I don't know whether that is because I have terrible attention to detail or simply because the dance is so enthralling.
Datura Inoxia Oh my God, I’ve noticed them only after your comment! Lol
We danced that in our ballet performance
Wow
We played this piece in orchestra!
Now that's waltzing

Why does the guy on the far right have his feet in opposite 5th then has it correct in the next shot, then has it wrong again at 0:42 ? Is it supposed to be like that?

im new to ballet and dont know much about it, can anyone explain why balanchines waltz of the flowers is so different compared to this one?
A 1934 production by choreographer Vasily Vainonen is being staged at the Mariinsky Theatre, and it is the closest to Lev Ivanov's 1892 original. Choreographer George Balanchine staged a new version of the ballet, which premiered at the New York City Ballet on February 2, 1954.
Who would want to spoil this with "multi-culti"?
