- Okay so today, I've decided to dissolve my wiener in acid. I'm not just going to be using any acid though, and I'm going to be using something special, called piranha solution. It's a hot and angry mixture of sulfuric acid and hydrogen peroxide, and I basically just have to drop it in.
WARNING: Piranha solution is EXTREMELY dangerous. It can even be explosive when mixed with the wrong things, and can shred just about anything organic. It was handled properly in a controlled environment. Please do not attempt this.

I've seen whole chicken carcasses dissolved in that shit.
Most acid is not nearly this strong, this is a special mixture that is highly reactive. a lot of acids will just give you relatively mild chemical burns unless you're soaking yourself in it for a prolonged period of time for some reason.
i burned my finger with concentrated nitric acid and after it healed it didn't leave a mark, so yeah it's about the exposure time.

I find it immensely fitting that this video showed up in my feed under a documentary about catching child predators.
As I scrolled passed hundreds of interesting videos, I instantly stopped when I read the caption to this one and was like “now THIS is what I’m talking about”
The fact that it goes back to being clear at the end is what shocked me the most. Like sure, it's a little darker in color than when it started but not that much. Everything that the hotdog was either vaporized or dissolved. No particulates left.

Chemistry teacher here... well this is a fairly extreme situation and only works on organic things... you've got a strong acid reducing all of the complex organic molecules into carbon, and then the peroxide oxidizing that carbon into CO2. Also this is submerged. Having this thrown on you is going to mess you up. But its not going to melt you two as only the acid and peroxide in contact with you is reacting, and that is quickly used up.
Side note. Your scientist teacher don't intentionally lie to you about anything, but unfortunately science teachers are expected to teach all three sciences despite their specialism. Without a degree level understanding in the subject they are essentially the level of a secondary/high school graduate. They know everything you need to know to pass the exams but not enough to see the lies, misconceptions and simplifications that plague the science curriculum.(atleast in the UK) I always tell my top sets when what they're learning isn't technically true, but there's no point with everyone else. You just end up confusing them!

Fun fact, when preparing piranha solution it is imperative that you add the sulfuric acid first and peroxide second. If the ratio of H2O2 is too high it will effectively detonate, sending shards of your container everywhere at high velocity.
