Between Matt and you, really am enjoying the build. Fantabulous describing how well the Milwaukee concrete drill works was unique...a blend of fantastico and fabuloso...lol . Thanks for the video.
Neat hammer drill. I always use a squeeze syringe like you rinse your ears out with to blow the dust out of the holes for the drive pins for securing base angle if I don't have air at the job site. I have never used tapcons and if you goof up the pins are a pain to get out usually need a grinder. Don't make the mistake of leaning down and trying to blow the dust out it goes right up your nose every time.
Thanks for posting. Thank you for your very helpful explantion of building terms and what goes into the construction of one of these buildings. Hot work (welding) always interesting to see. I guess when sparks fly it always catches my attention. Much apprication for showing. Be well.
The doors got a closer on it in case of any wind. On Demo Ranch there's always wind, quite often it's supersonic, noisy and accompanied by a little thing whizzing by, then making a piece of steel go ping.
I see that there is no Matt around. Does this mean you'll be able to get twice the amount of work done? Oops: Saw a wild Matt at 8:40. I guess it was good going while it lasted.
Frame manufacturers usually want you to remove the shipping strap (at the bottom) of the door frame before installing. Then use temporary 2x4 wood spacers while you are securing the frame in the rough opening. "Welded Frame: remove the shipping bars and do not use them as installation spreaders. Wood spreaders are typically used for installation. one spreader is installed at the bottom of the frame, and a second spreader at either mid height or strike location (figure 3). the frame is then squared and braced." www.dhi.org/shared/forms/PDFforms/Publications/DH_09/12_Dec09/Dec09_2_StorInstall_Hollow.pdf If not done this way, when the shipping strap is finally knocked out, it can distort the frame as it goes and cause extra work for the door installer. Typically, the door installer is part of a different crew, as frames are normally installed by carpenters, masons or erectors, depending on the wall type. Here, the door and door hardware might be installed by this crew. We will have to see. My other hot tip is, don't install the door silencers until the painters are done. They just pull them out and then they are lost. I kept a bag of door silencers in my pocket and replaced missing ones during inspection so it never reached the punch list. On a job with thousands of openings, that could save you from getting several pages of punch list items. Just for missing little rubber buttons.
i need one of those genie lifts. i got a shop that is 55' x 35' with 16' ceilings but my front double doors are only around 6'8" so i wonder if the bars around the platform on the lifts come off or drop straight down for getting into tight entrances?
So when using 4x4 square for columns what is the spacing between columns. Also how does this spacing compare to say using 4.5" schedule 40 pipe as columns.
It's inches, not feet. It means for every twelve inches of run (horizontal), you rise (vertical) three inches. 3 on 12 is pretty shallow roof grade, but since this is nothing more than a big metal shed, it's fine. A lot of places won't allow shallower than 4 on 12, and the further north you go, the steeper the roofs must be. My house has a 4 on 12 run, but it was built in the 1960s AND I live in Phoenix, AZ. SInce we don't get any snow to speak of and it rarely rains cats and dogs, the 4 on 12 is fine. Go to Flagstaff, AZ, where they do get snow, and that 4 on 12 won't pass muster.
So Erik, every single metal connection is welded? I've seen a lot of buildings that were pre drilled and bolted... Welding looks to be slower but stronger.
@@FishFind3000 It makes absolutely no sense to bolt AND weld. It would only add unnecessary material and labor cost. Welding is obviously the strongest way to construct a metal building.
Sir, what is an email address I can communicate with you? I am out of your service area but wondered if you have contacts in my area. I have gone to the website but I can't find a contact list.
Hey Eric, I would probably pull this video down and edit out the part drilling the holes and blowing the dust away. If OSHA man sees this he’s gonna have your ass. Drilling/cutting/blowing concrete dust is a big no no on job sites now. All dust has to be 100% captured. Not sure if you heard of the silica dust rules that went into place a couple years ago. Just trying to protect you man.
I like how you are able to show all the steps involved in this build.
I'm pretty sure Robert Oberst will thank you for putting in those 8' doors lol.
For a second I thought I could smell them welding but then I realized that my freaking dog farted! Great video Erik!
😂
Can we all appreciate these welders working in full gear all day long in Texas heat 🔥🥵👍🏼🙌🏼
smallest metal building i've ever seen, love that you two got together for a project!
That's what I was thinking. Mini barndo.
Yeah, it looks a little overkill for what it use will be, but hey, I would do it the same way to. 👍👍

So nice of Matt to finally build his best friend Creepy Cooter an actual home.
A very solidly-built structure and made true, by means of verifiable techniques. That welded metal is a true union of the structure. Very nice!
Love how stiff and rigid your builds are. Excellent standard for others to copy!
When Matt has everything set up I want to see you to do a video with some Pew-pews

So happy Matt and you, Erik, got together so i found this awesome channel! Carpenter from Sweden here, respect brotha!
Love the vids keep up the great work
Thanks for showing us the progress...
You have an awesome crew.

Be well.
You guys make it look so easy, which is a testimony to your amazing skill!
Pretty cool, things you don't think about but need to know if you were going to build. Looking strong and stable. Like the idea of wood on the inside.
I'd love to see this same type of series for a full house. Documenting the whole processes is much better than a few updates per barndo.
Eric, you're quite the character, and I'm a good judge of character :-)
LOOKING GOOD
Wow Erik! Great video yet again!
10:22 “all the shit on this building ”😂😂

We always called it tacky tap. Nice videos! Thanks
Love your channel. Teaches me ALOT. Used to do masonry so i love construction. Keep it up T.B... Its the new and improved Ask This Old House
Am here bc of matt/demolition ranch but i did sub
Really enjoying your videos

Did you use the word “fan-tab-you-less.”
"Fantabulous" lol
It would be funny if you used the “house building song” from red dead redemption while your building a house
Those are some massive tapcons

Your video presentation style has definitely improved over the last month or two... Matt been helping?

Is Manny still working for you. It’s been a long time for you both to be racing to the early morning job site
question, what about rust on all these thing overtime? concrete would transfer some humidity the the base?
would be interesting to know how they square and plumb the building up after the bents are up.
6:30 Essential Craftsman did a whole episode on string line. You guys would make a great collab.
Are they earthquake proof? Or is there a different option?
Nice work! The Milwaukee with the dust extraction is a Rotary Hammer not a hammer drill
Does a 3-on-12 angel stand for 3 feet of vertical difference for every 12 feet?
Yes

How much do barndominiums cost compared to a regular house ? Is it more, is it less on average ?
New concrete is so easy to drill. Try it on 100 year old concrete!
Hi!! What’s the name of the tape on the floor
I wonder what the cost is per sq.ft. compared to a traditional wood framed house?
What are the dimensions of base angle
Is Manny still an employee what happened to his channel is alll the content deleted or am I looking in the wrong place
Hey call Matt he need another barn! Don’t let him build a cheap junk barn just extend the slab and build a extra space on the side of the original‼️
Do you not need some type of foam barrier between the steel and the concrete
matthew Boyd : Yes... He does not. That's what the butyl tape is for.
Where do you get the metal door frames from?
Badass work love your channel. You’ve inspired me to build my own shop thx
Why not put ⚓ blots when it wet? Wet set
So Erik, every single metal connection is welded? I've seen a lot of buildings that were pre drilled and bolted... Welding looks to be slower but stronger.
You can always bolt it for speed and weld extra on top to have easy assembly and have the increased strength.
These are 100% welded together. They are custom built and are not pre-fab kits.
@@FishFind3000 It makes absolutely no sense to bolt AND weld. It would only add unnecessary material and labor cost. Welding is obviously the strongest way to construct a metal building.
Where u at haven’t seen new videos
Who thumbs down the video? The FNG?
Tom Adkins Kentucky ballistics did
I thought the sides were already on this building. Didn't we see that on this channel?
Right, that's what I was thinking.
No
@@rubenvarela4077 yes the water tank has been delivered as well, a few days ago on Off The Ranch

I need a bar dominium built But Eric will not come to Calhoun County!
Barn do?

Weres Manny, did you ever tell us? If so I missed it.
🤷♂️

For the algorithm
Butyl tape /mastic =sticky tape
“Milwaukee” drill... Not a sponsor... 🤣🤣🤣
you must be a millionaire as the owner of texas barndominiums. woohoo
I weld everything with 6010 5p+ it’s faster
Used string lines in the chemical plants down here about every field trip (draftsman) laser kinda took the place of the plumb bob though.
He he. You said erection
Butyl tape
Waste of time drilling all those holes. Just pop it with that 22 mag.
I need to get a life because I'm first again

They mess up the purlins thats why is part 2
