why would anyone who's ever done sheet metal work complain about drilling the sheets? This is brilliant! And, when you use the self-"DRILLING" self-tapping screws, guess what? YOU'RE DRILLING THE METAL!!!!! I've done a few metal buildings and roofs in my time, but I'm still binging on all your vids and learn something in every one. Oh, guess my fave of all time was the April Fools cement pour!!! LOL
The golden van you see at 3:25 made it to the top in a Demolition Ranch video. The Raptor is more powerful and it's a 4x4, that's why he was so confident. That was a piece of cake for this truck!
Beat me to it.
The grey with black trim looks really good, nice work!
3:25 Erik, if he can get Goldie the van up that hill, I'm pretty sure the Raptor can handle it.😂
Nice job Erick, you have an awesome crew buddy.
There is nothing better than having guys who love what they do and like each other.
I'm surprised you didn't put Matt to work again.
Anyway, good job sir 👍👍
I love Texas cant find this kind of stuff up north
It would be effing cold in a Canadian winter.
You guys pay close attention to details. Nice craftsmanship....
Pre drilling is smart that way when u run the self tapper screws down the sheet metal does't leave any burs .. burs cause water leak issues 👍alot of crews that drill quick get nasty burs that split or part the seals..
Loving the content
Your team and the metal guys always make it look so easy! Good job and detail! Thank you for sharing some of your knowledge!
Here in Australia we only attach the sheets using the ridge and not the flats for wall and roof sheets ,to seal the the sheets we use a z flashing that fits into slab rebate.
Learned a whole lot more... thank you Erik and Co for all your dedication and attention to detail.
I love the attention to detail that you and your crew have for the job, it is a pleasure to watch. As for drilling tap holes, on a physics level the sealing cap on the top of the sheet metal will be smoother thus providing a cleaner seal... I like it
Wow great job
Love watching this build.. Great job guys..
You make good videos..thank you
Getting straight screw lines always seemed complicated but your tip is awesome. I'm using it next time I make a roof using that material. Thank you for making me look smart lol.
Hi Erick,
Thank you for posting and your detailed explanation of the building material involved in this build.
Yes I saw the gold van figured it was painted to match the gold boot?.
Great to see your great work again Erik!!!!
Looks good Eric.
Awesome tips. Thanks
As always, doing a great job, and doing it right the first time!
Great stuff
I'm from deep south Texas, I understand you perfectly. I turned on closed captions just for fun. Its wayyy off LOL Good job guys.
Watch some Hannah Barron with them on, it will crack you up!
Love the quality of work you guys do!!! Always be proud of that!!
I just realized that the trick you showed wouldn't work on panels with concealed fasteners, at least not the types I've read about and seen. That might explain why I haven't ever seen concealed fasteners on residential work. Love the channel, I'm learning a lot!
Mate he got that gold mini van up that hill the truck had no problem
I get a kick out of it when people complain about drilling the panels. Been doing it for years and you get a better seal units you way over size the hole. What do people think a self drilling or tapping screw does? Just less clean and controlled, often leaving burrs.
Great work! It's nice seeing a few things I haven't tried before like the hanging gutter
So far every video is like "Class Started". Learn something cool and important on them all. Life Time screws with washer covers this time, a 1 shot deal, never worry about it again...or outer inner covering hummm!
Great video on details!!!
I cannot be the only on that heard “today we are SHITTING this building” at the start of this video.......
Lol, I had to go back after watching video.
You were not the only one. I heard that line, stopped the video, and came here to comment, but you beat me to it.
How many days have started with that statement?
I'm gonna have to start using that line on my channel lol. Today we are going to %#&%$ this ______ so welcome to the channel lol.
Jorge Serna I subscribed to your channel expecting to hear it soon.....your vids look interesting too!
Hope Matt provides a Cerveza or three once you guys have finished.
Glad to see the metal scrap being cleaned up, worked with metal a bit over the years and boy are metal splinters a pain.
Looking good 👍🏽
If Goldie can get up that Hill. His brand new 4X4 definitely can get up. Lol
You can here Matt in background making his video
💓You are a very good teacher💓
Thank you.
I wish i had your crew for a day at my house. I live in Iowa.
you cant afford his crew.
Que chingones la raza
Does your crew ever say..get out if my way I'm working here!!! Lol
Nah most are Mexican, those guys can work in all conditions, and very rarely complain outloud.
Mexicans are in my opinion the hardest workers, that's why building that wall is dumb.
If they want to get to the other side, God himself will not slow them down.
I agree.....
You are not supposed to drill them, You get Mr Demolition to shoot the holes. It's that easy.
Kick ass. At 9 sec it sounded like shitting the building. I know u said sheathing. Lol. Great vid.
QUESTION: How do they manage the slope in the gutter, so that the rainwater is flowing towards the back of the structure and into the collection barrel? You showed how the gutter was mounted, but didn't include that detail.
I don't know how he does it but what I do is pit a 5% ish decline in the gutter towards to escape.
That way the water flows and it doesn't look to drastic, as in can't really be noticed.
I don't know exactly how he does it with a hanging gutter, but that's how I do it with clamped gutters.
I would assume he puts a spacer of sum sort at the escape end.
@@tomaszdolan9031 I know when doing traditional gutters with the hangers, the hangers are mounted in a line that drops something like 1/8" to 1/4" per foot to create the slope. I didn't see anything like that in the way the mounted the gutters. the slope might be in the gutters. I don't know. I hope Eric responds.
Good point, if he’s fixing them from the roof sheets how does it fall? Maybe it’s packed down each screw 🤷♂️ to give it the fall
Wish you could build in Mississippi
Matt showed him what’s up!
Why do i work 12 hours on steel buildings then come watch more lol
I know the feeling I make steel panels and mechanical lock roof panels then watch this
Now i want one.
Have you ever heard of the matco hyper drillbits you need to check them out
Eric, I’ve been punching all of mine, its so much quicker using an AWL. I learned that method from rr buildings UA-cam channel.
We tried. The AWL bent.
I’ll try a different one.
Sounds like someone has learned the hard way not to stack measurements. Every shot is taken from the slab not the next lower piece
Absolutely! Always measure from the reference dimension. Stacking measurements is just begging for trouble. Reference A to B, Reference A to C, etc... Sure, B to C *SHOULD* equal (A + C) - (A + B) but due to the potential for the tolerances stacking unequally you are almost guaranteed to get a sub-par result. Doesn't matter if you are working wood, metal, concrete or stone. Internal parts for a Pocket Watch or a Suspension Bridge, all the same rules apply.
Do you put any underneath the sheets to close the gap between the sheets and concrete? Also how do you prevent rust from forming on the frame? Are you able to walk on the roof if needed? Can you do a video on these questions? Hope you don't mind I might have more questions as the project rolls on.
Kyle at the UA-cam channel RR Buildings either pre-punches his sheets or pre-drills them just as you are doing. RR Buildings build wood framed pole barns.
That's the way we do it
Well Matt definitely proved you wrong! Lmao he’s definitely crazy but an amazing person! Glad you two are working together! Wished I could meet him
Buen trabajo 👍🏿
Do you ever do metal home in any other state such as Tennessee??
Ya it's called lay 25 sheets together and mark the top sheet clamp them together and drill all at once .
Man he was good with that nibbler they have a mind of there own sometimes.......
Drill one row on the ground and then use a laser lever after they’re hung. It’s significantly straighter.
Poo.
do the screws you use on the siding have rubber washers? If not, doesn't water get behind them as it runs down the walls?
🙏🏻🇺🇲👍 Very informative 🙂
Demo sent me
Awesome video. I am just curious to what gauge panels you are using. Also I always thought the roof was done before the walls. Or is that just a Canadian thing. Keep up the awesome work bud.
26 gauge.
We do roof last.
Do you use 2x4 purlins on all your building's?
Saw the question on gutter slope but I'm wondering if you are putting on leaf guards to help filter rain water for catch system?
There's a filter at the intake tank.
Wow Erik ! Great video yet again ! is it true that in texas it is 100 degrees at night?
Yes
the future is icf forms - 10x as strong and cheaper labor costs, better insulated - especially in areas with tornadoes there is no comparison - lower insurance rates - the install is still critical and you probably end up adding a bunch of rebar but a better overall investment, an easier sale #a sales ninja must close
We may or may not have an ICF build coming up. 🤷♂️😉
What impact do yall use I use the Milwaukee hydraulic impacts there pretty good
Milwaukee 2758-22CT
It’s 3/8 drive. 220 lbs torque max.
The Doc went live today.
What’s the color of the sheet metal they used? It looks so good I want to reside my shed with that color.
Looks like RAL7039 i am not complete sure.
Worried? Shoot i hate when companies dont pre drill lol!!! Got screw walking all over and misses like crazy
Can you recommend any metal building companies in the Houston/Galveston area?
What is wrong with predrilling the sheeting???? Isn't that what the self tapping screws do???
Yes but the screws move around on you while you’re trying to drive them in.. and then you scratch up the metal sheets. Also, it takes time for the screws to drill through the sheet, by drilling/punching holes through the sheets, you save yourself time.
What is a nibbler
I know it cuts metal
At this point i just think you like calling it an erection. Ha ha
🤷♂️😁
Why can’t the sheets rest on the concrete?
Old school
They let you use “erection” in the title? Nice!
🤷♂️😁
More reloading videos on the other channel!!
😁
If someone were spray foaming the building, would you bother with the “foam closures” (I think that’s what you were saying.)
Yes, always use foam closures. If you don’t, the insulation will shoot out when sprayed and will make a terrible mess.
Always seal the building before insulation. Insulation is not meant to be a sealant.
Texas Barndominiums I didn’t think of that. Thanks!
No insulation?
What was the name of those roof screws? Sack screws?
Zac
If you hold the drill straight up and down when pre drilling the metal sheets..... your holes will not be exactly in the middle of all the ribs. When you stack a bunch of sheets you will see that they stack at a slight angle. Figure out what that angle is and make a little wood guide. Drill your holes at a slight angle and all the holes will be right in the middle of the ribs. If you don't do this you will see hole placements all over the place. They can move as much as a 1/4 inch left to right in a stack of 12 sheets. Also.... use a leaf blower to blow off the metal shavings from each piece of siding. It will keep your siding from getting little scratches when you start to handle it. (especially dark colored siding) I learned the hard way. lol
Don't tell Matt he CAN'T do something......he is going to do it....or you will be helping him undo!!!:P Just sayin' Looks good!!!
Nibbled sux. I rather use grinder with cut off wheel
Smashin those holes with awl is not only about the panels,.....hope no kids go barefoot outside for a couple years until those metal shards rust away.....don`t be afraid of change .
lol my kid walks barefoot through my machine shop every day. you dont actually have to wrap them in bubble wrap you know.
A hole is a hole. Drilled r screwed. Maybe just let everyone know the bit size. For the ones that don’t have a clue.
Looks like an 1/8 to me
Bdkj3e _ that is what it is. I was meaning for people that didn’t know. And used something way to big
Where’s manny
One question, what actually happened to Daniel??
Manny?
Rosa Williams Nah, Daniel moved on before Manny. If this keeps up, people are going to be asking, “What happened to that kid, Billy, you went to first grade with?”
@@jamesogorman3287 I was thinking Leroy. Idk why I said Manny. Lol
Expensive mistake if someone doesn't know how to read a tape..
Why would drilling holes in your sheetmetal void any warranties the product would have? You still have to cut openings from everything as small as a hole for a cable to door openings. And the other absurdity is that using self tapping screws also "drills holes" in the sheetmetal. Now, your screw holes should be around the same size or slightly smaller than the screw your using, so I could see a very large screw hold allowing water into the building being a warranty issue. BUt that's just being sloppy and lazy, not the matter of drilling holes in something you're already drilling and cutting holes into.
Also the screws I've always seen used for these have a rubber washer at the head that seals up the hole, never heard of predrilling voiding anything and it sounds like an absurd idea
Bdkj3e _ Although Erik properly debunked it, the reason some think that is that some hacks don’t sweep their roofs after installation, leaving small shards of metal that can rust and harm the finish. That’s what it’s all about. There is nothing wrong with drilling, especially in a stack and the roof has to be swept anyway.
I just did a building and used a punch. Drill makes so much more sense.
Screw the nay sayers
You mean the metal manufacturer? They specifically say not to drill, only punch.
But self tapping screws drill. 🤷♂️
Texas Barndominiums not straight! Or where you want them. It will end up looking like a drunk did it!
sub
Perfect screw lines, eh?
Shouldn't the device you're screwing already be perfectly aligned? 😉😁
Erik quit rushing your vids, think them out a little better and show us finished projects. rather see quality vids over quantity vids.
Second haha
Third lol
A self tapping metal screw “drills” through the panel, so why would drilling a hole be any different?
Self tapping creates a tighter seal than putting it into an existing hole. But if you use the right size hole I don't see why it would matter too much
