1973 Mustang Project Gets a Supercharged Engine and 5 Speed Transmission - Large Marge is Back!

  • This is it! The 1973 Mustang project we've been calling Large Marge finally gets the small block Ford engine and Borg Warner T5 manual transmission installed and it is looking awesome! There's a blower on there for good Old School fun and looks plus there's all kinds of new technology incorporated all over this project.
    Large Marge will have the legs of a Pro Touring muscle car but look like a proper vintage Mustang should... possibly even have a scoop to the super charger sticking out of the hood.
    Let me know what you think!
    Stay tuned for more and help me out by sharing this video and subscribe to the autoedit you tube channel if you haven't yet.
    Thanks for watching!

    I've been in that exact same position with the incline driveway with that concrete lip and hitting the top of the garage door. You made it look WAY easier than it is to get that in there. Engine wasn't swinging like crazy, etc. Well done!

      HA! Thanks so much and glad you appreciate all of those little things that fight on these installs. I forgot to mention in the video that the thing kept trying to run back down the driveway into the neighbors yard!

    A custom hood would be absolutely amazing on that. A pair of scoops that feed right into those air cleaners, and a small hump to fit the pulley for the supercharger. Could even put a hump on the other side for symmetry if that's what it takes to look right.

    I use to own a 1973 Mustang with a leaded 289 HP engine. I got and a gift for teaching a neighbor English. Though I did give it back when I had to move about 200 miles away. It was only right thing to do at the time. Though I did own it for 2 years and gas at the time was $0.79 unleaded. $0.89 plus, $0.99 premium. Ya the good old days for gas prices at least.

    Yes was so glad to see this video show up! Thanks for the great content! A good trick that would have made your life a little easier when installing that engine is to have tilted the body of car nose down on the jack stands. Looks like you did alright though.

    • @AutoEdits
      @AutoEdits  7 років тому

      That is the stock location for those components on the 94 Mustang Cobra engine. I figured the belt on the supercharger would be the first to slip.

      @mtdmmaye6861 7 років тому

      Yep that's where mine slipped I had to go manual rack and lower the alternator. It worked then but I couldn't drop pulley size it started slipping again I wish they would make pulleys ribbed like the bigger super chargers instead of serpentine type. I enjoy your videos

    Hi Jason. Question, why did you have to make motor mounts if your mustang came with a 302 V8, I know the cobra is a 5.0, roller type block. In my 65 I also used a 5.0 to replace my 289 block just because it had the roller cam setup. This was back in 1991. Thank you look forward to your answer, love your videos.

    • @AutoEdits
      @AutoEdits  7 років тому +1

      1973 Mustangs had a unique engine mount and frame adapter setup to any other Mustang. The engine mounts are quite a bit taller and the best option is to have the originals rebuilt but I had thrown my away years ago before learning this.

    nice car all around and its good to see someone loving on a 73 they normally get the boot for other year models and your stance is on point good job mr auto edit but all the time and money you could've had a windsor or a cleveland or gone for a boss clevor. to me a 347 stroker isn't as good as a 351w im saying why not start with the 351 cubic inches to begin with and supercharge that? i digress but better than any of those combinations a big block 429 thunder jet or 460 tied t a 5 speed would have really kicked things up a notch in your build. theres no replacement for displacement

      I like how you think! My dream engine would be a John Kaase Boss Nine for this thing but just a dream...

    I wish I knew what to do with my 73 mustang the frame or or subframe what ever it is..... basically my frame is no good I'm lost on what I need to buy to restore my frame or if I just buy a whole new floor and buy the frame rails because I'm not sure where the frame rails weld to.....the floor of the car I think but not sure what I need in all.

      You just have to get under there and look at what's wrong. If there is too much missing than it could be bad but get dirty and find out!

    Great videos man, large Marge is going to be in charge 😆 I am curious as to if you installed header gaskets and took that green tape off? Can a person get away with out installing header gaskets or would there be to much leak,but as for the tape I imagine when you fire her up that tape will just burn into nothing. I am debating on the 174 on a 347 but it has 10-2-1 compression and I imagine this roots blowers like 9 and below. I don't know how far along you are now but do you think the 174 is worth the money?

    Love the build.
    Question - saw you’re planning on going with the Holley efi kit. What ecu are planning on? I didn’t think that kit worked with boost? I’m planning on doing a SC’d 351 in mine, but can’t find an efi kit that works with boost and that fits. Again, love the videos.

      Thanks so much! I am running the ECU that comes with the Terminator kit. This thing is completely fine with boost... do you mean make it a "blow thru" like you would use with a Procharger or like system? Because that would need a phone call to Holley but otherwise, this system is very adaptable. Soon as I get a radiator and do some wiring, I'll be looking to fire this thing so stay tuned!

      Thanks for the response man!
      From Holley’s website, it looks like the terminator kit’s ecu has to be upgraded to their HP ecu specs to run boost? No?

      I highly recommend them! They are made by ET Wheels or Team III Wheels and are mega good. Here's a link to the website:

    hi Jason my name is Steve I've learned a lot from your videos I appreciate you air them but I have a couple questions I have almost the same Driveline setup that you have every time I stomp on the throttle my supercharger belt trying to work off one way or the other and I noticed on the first video I watched your tensioner was straight and then another video I watched you had it on at angle and I was wondering if there was a reason for that
