I feel like a lot of people look at dark souls like it's some sort of challenge game (like Getting over it or Cat Mario) were the only purpose of the game is being difficult. While in reality Dark Souls is an RPG, There is no right way to play an RPG it's literally the point of the genre, you play a role in a story. And in a game like Dark souls with a very vague story, what that role is, is completely up to you

I think the whole playing the game right debate went wild over summons mostly bc they do just fundamentally change the game. When you use a summon during a battle the boss's stats do not change in order to level the advantage that the player gets. Especially during the case of a mimic being used. If you play elden ring and use a mimic you can basically just sit back and let your mimic (which copies your equipment and stats 1 to 1) soak up all the damage and deal a great deal of damage as well and you can just either snipe the kill with a last hit or just let the mimic do all the job. So at that point are you even playing the game? At all? Or are you just watching it unfold before you. At that point I do get the "youre not playing the game right" argument, bc at that point youre not playing the game at all. Youre just watching 2 npcs fight and intervene only at the last couple of seconds. Im pretty sure people who say using magic arent playing the game right are just saying it as a meme, bc of the whole "insane difficulty" souls games were told to have by games' journalists. I completely agree that you should just play the game with whatever way gives you the most enjoyment but I also do understand the frustration people are expressing about summons bc it kinda takes away from the challenge that the souls games originally had. I have finished all the dark souls games and elden ring and yeah, I remember a time when saying you finished ds1 was an achievement you wore like a medal of war, but hearing someone say they finished elden ring doesnt seem as impressive bc of the whole summons thing. Anyway, great video, keep up the good work man

If you didnt beat the game with bare fists, no hit, no dodging, no blocking, lvl 1, ng+7 you didnt really beat the game tbh.

literally no one argues that fist only or anything of the like is the correct way to play. This is a strawman argument seen everywhere to the point it seems some people actually believe people say this. No one unironically believes this. Another misconception about the community is that players care about beating bosses at a harder difficulty to someone else. Maybe a few losers here or there, but not a legitimate faction of the community.
There are two ways to play: Engage with a bosses moveset, or don't. The only ways to beat a boss without engaging with its moveset are summons, ranged and overstatting (ignoring the bosses attacks and just trading damage). Let me make it clear, there is nothing wrong with either, if thats what you are sure you enjoy. However, by not engaging with a moveset, you have no idea whether or not you will enjoy engaging with it. You only cheat yourself out of the "dance", which is the hallmark as to why Soulsborne bosses are regarded as the best in the business, by those who have danced with them.
