  • In this video I analyse a build I have been using on Helldive difficulty against the bugs. Using the Scorcher; Machine Gun; Shield Backpack; Eagle Strike; Eagle 500kg Bomb; Grenade Pistol and Stung Grenades.

    FAQ/Corrections:
    I said the Titan belly is predicted to have 50% of the total HP. I meant to say "50% of the total body HP". The head seems to be independent from this.
    Q1) If you have any downtime when you can’t kill a Bile Titan then there is no point in your build.
    A2) Being in a situation where a Titan is on you and there is little to do against it is very frustrating. My build has the Scorcher that can strip the Titan’s belly very quickly, as I said in the video this reduces their offensive ability but also makes herding them together a lot easier, to then double kill them when the Eagle Bomb is back from cooldown.
    Q2) What is a “Squishy Part” and why does explosive damage matter?

    Q3) You mention running solo from your group on Helldive difficulty. On that difficulty it is suicide if you don’t stick together.
    A3) I have just played about 50 games using my build and running solo I found quite easy to do, completing objectives and farming Super Credits. This build has a lot of survivability and makes going solo potentially easier than other builds you may have used.
    Q4) Did you try any other builds along the way when testing this one?
    A4) For sure. I played around with no shield backpack and instead tried taking some of the Barrages or a Railcannon Strike. I really dislike not having the shield though. I also tried running no Eagle Strike and running the EAT to help deal with Titan Overload. The Eagle Strike is just so good though and dropping it feels really bad. I found on Helldive the EAT takes too long to setup and use.
    Q5) Can you explain a bit more about the difference between the Stalwart and the Machine Gun?
    A5) The Stalwart has more effective DPS across all ammo because it has an additional Mag over the MG. But individual mags are very close on effective raw DPS. But the Stalwart with AP 2 will lose 50% damage more often, Brood Commander heads and parts of the Stalkers body being the big ones. This starts to drop its DPS potential compared to the MG that will be dealing full damage. This increases even further because the MG’s bullets pierce through the first light enemy it hits and can hit a second target, Scavengers, Mini Spewers, Pouncers and Hunters. When in a choke point this can be a lot of additional DPS. And finally, the Stalwart can’t deal any damage to the heads of Bile Spewers and struggles with the armour on Hive Guards.
    Q6) Why do you pronounce TH words weirdly or put the word “Three” on the screen in text at various points?
    A6) It has been made aware to me, ((often in a nasty way :’( in the comments)), that I don’t pronounce words with TH very well, instead making the FFF sound. For clarity I have started putting the text on screen to be clear on what I am saying. “You get (three) ammo”, instead of what people may hear as, “You get (fffree) ammo”. As a child I had speech ffferapy ;) because I still had not spoken at 4 years of age. This is likely the reason I have not developed a very good TH in my pronunciation. P.S. My Mum sometimes wishes I never learned to speak as I now don’t shut up :)

    Played this build in early days. The worst possible scenario is when you die, get reinforced away from your machinegun and get swarmed by hunters, entering infinite death cycle.

      When Eruptor came out, I used it as my support and used my support as my primary. Same weakness, if you died you lost your primary and were left with something that couldn’t shoot up close

      You can always run a non explosive secondary+a grenade that can close holes/or just rely on the airstrike to clear a nest, but yeah, life is a bitch when that happens.

    I find Scorcher such a high-risk, high-reward weapon against bugs. It certainly makes sense for this particular build, though. Weapons with high stagger work great with the machine guns for horde clear and crowd control to buy enough time for your reload. I ran EATs or orbital precision strike in my flex slot to deal with the Eagle rearm problem.

    I like it. I've almost forgotten about the Scorcher and Machine Gun since new weapons and warbonds were made available. Time to revisit them! Thanks!

    Great build and video. I'm still waiting to unlock the grenade pistol; I wish the it wasn't on the last page of the Warbond I wanted least overall. Seems like it frees up you to run many builds that would otherwise lack important utility.

    I've always thought the scorcher was underwhelming. Not in effectiveness, but in feel. It sounds like I'm shooting a nerf gun with a relatively tiny clip that will occasionally accidently kill me if a hunter does a 'Get Down Mr.President' in my face as I'm shooting it. Pre nerf Slugger, Breaker, and Eruptor FELT like I was shooting something powerful. Even though the Scorcher is unquestionably effective, I just don't get the same satisfying vibe from it sadly :(

    very interesting build, i've always wanted to give the scorcher a shot at higher difficulties. although i personally would change the build considerably.
    1-i'd use the flamethrower rather than the mg as i think flamethrower performs better than the mg when it comes to killing hoards, can kill chargers if necessary (although scorcher + grenade pistol + stun grenades is probably more than enough) has more ammo and has a mobile reload at the expense of high odds of killing yourself, which is worth it imo. i wish the mg had a mobile reload
    2-i'd swap out the shield for the supply back for more grenade pistol and scorcher ammo, both are very ammo hungry weapons. this would also enable for more stim and grenade spam, more stims would also help with the occasional flamethrower and scorcher self damage
    3-i might swap the airstrike for something else but i'm not exactly sure what. airstrike is a very good allrounder on paper but in practice i've had great difficulty when it comes to taking out bile titans with it, even though it is possible. i'd probably swap it for eat, railcannon or precision strike if i want to lean more on bile titans (chargers should be no problem with all your other options). if i want more horde clear though, i'd probably go for orbital gas strike or 380.
    and then i'd probably go eat dirt when stalkers spawn XP

    You could also trade airstrike for the orbital precision strike, as it’s still got really good aoe for groups, but it’s very good for dealing with titans

    Def gonna try this build as I love the MG (and the Stalwart). I've definitely found that it's high risk, high reward being so dependent on a support weapon for swarm control - if you die and can't get back your support weapon, you're gonna have a bad time. That said, the MG is so fun so I'm definitely gonna give this build a try.

    One nit pick is your section on the various machineguns you have DPS listed, but the graph is clearly just talking about total ammo/damage possible and has nothing to do with how fast that damage is done (or damage per second)

    I never realized the scorcher could deal w chargers like that!
    if bile titans can only reliably be dealt with by 500 kg or Eat/quazar, I think I'd rather use 1 strat slot for a shoulder launched missile which can handle titans, chargers, AND very distant targets like shrieker nests. equipping an incendiary shotty primary for horde clear.
    Just 1 strat slot used, and we're versatile / covered for all uses. The other two or three slots can be chosen by feel. Agreed a shield +light arnor. After that is player's choice.
    This is mainly because I don't like the feel of the 500 kg, nor do I like having more than one eagle strat.
    I like shield + missile launcher of choice + orbital gas + (pick your fave)

    is there any place to make suggestions for this?
    wonder on how my builds I run work out
    that being
    white wolf/default armor(if thats considered), sickle (grenade pistol, stun grenades), autocannon, orbital precision strike, orbital gas strike, eagle airstrike for bots
    or
    light gunner, punisher with autocannon or blitzer with recoilless (or spear if feeling spicy) (with grenade pistol, stun grenades), orbital precision strike, orbital gas strike and eagle 500kg, or if orbital scatter than napalm and airstrike instead of gas and precision for bugs

    Would definitely like to see more of these, buildcrafting for this game is a lot deeper than most would have you believe. Though why you'd take 500kg AND Airstrike is beyond me (Airstrike is just better in almost every way including titans), so I look forward to actually seeing what's up with that

    1:17 Why does the time to kill change at higher difficulty? I thought the damage and health values stayed the same. Is it a variant of the bile spewer that only shows up on level 8 and 9?

      Yes I believe so, the mortar spewers are the only enemy to really change, where their head becomes more armored too. Must have other effects to their total health pool or sides, for that result.

    Arrowhead's disastrous missteps really did a dirty on this channel's high effort content and its fortunes. Sad to see. I hope the OP hasn't been too disheartened by the game and comes back with more videos. Perhaps don't award so much time to the next ones, as deserving of the game you're covering at the moment.
