Incredibly beautiful. Love seeing women using tools. I'm female 67 and have more tools than some men. Love working in my yard, landscaping and building things. You are an inspiration to all women.❤
That is very kind Susan! :D Best of luck with all your projects :)
this fence is a collector's item now with lumber prices. great work.
You go, lady!!! Glad to see a woman doing a project like a fence, making it practical and at the same time beautiful. Men don't usually look at the aesthetic... Beautiful final work!
Thanks for your support!!
By far one of the best looking horizontal fences on youtube!
Thanks for the inspiration!!! The final result’s dimensional element is wonderful. As a woman in Engineering I LOVE seeing women in trades too. I appreciate you showing out! Do your thing sis, do your thing!!!
Thank you so much for your support!😁 What field of engineering do you work in?
@@sarabendrick1828 I am a software engineer. We are finally seeing more women in tech. Really looking forward to seeing more women in trades. You are normalizing career paths and DIYs that a lot of women couldn’t see for themselves. As someone who has gotten strange looks just for putting up a mailbox, (clutches pearls) that is level and plum…I appreciate that you are out there clearly demonstrating your skills and your pride in it.
Beautiful design and red cedar is a great choice. 💯💕 thanks for sharing!
Love it. Very beautiful and super inspirational. Thank you!
Fantastic Job, Love It!!!
Great job. Awesome to see it come together and the end fence is gorgeous
Awh thank yoU!!!
oh that first board for spacing above the deck is smart, thanks for showing that
Yes, of course. Thanks for watching!!
Love this, love the design and I can imagine the smell of the cedar
oh it smells good!
Fantastic work thank you for kindly sharing. That will be my next project
I like that you're using craftsman tools 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Wow! what a great concept and execution!
Beautiful work, excellent job!
I loved the design of this panel privacy wall Sara. Your designs are always so creative and tastefully done. 👩💪😎✌
awh thank you!!
Great job! Liked the pace and content of your video. Gracias!
I especially love it when she leans forward 😍
At a guess I'd say 36D..Attractive as well.
Another amazing job!
This is beautiful!!!
so cool. great design! beats any fence I've ever done ... good stuff
Great design and final product! This is what I’ve been looking for.
Awesome! Glad to hear it!
BEAUTIFUL WORK💯
simple the best. very nice design
Great job!
I love how much you appreciate the beauty of the wood. I constantly struggle with throwing away a piece of wood. I'm limited on space, so sometimes I have no choice. I love finding a use for a piece that someone else thinks is garbage. I used a square piece of cedar I found, it's like 5"x5"x1" and I screwed 2 hooks on it to hold up my bongos at angle since I couldn't find a nice wall mount online. I also hung my guitar up, but those I got from Amazon. I put them on a wall with wood paneling. So many friends thought it was a virtual background when I was on Zoom. Work Pride You Know!
I love recycling the wood too! There should be a wood scrap drop off collection somewhere lol!
No kidding. I have a couple of 55 gallon plastic barrels filled with wood scraps.
I have boxes and boxes of scraps, which my wife use to question me about until I saved hundreds by making a few things for her.
I love your work! Keep it coming! Be well, stay safe.
awh thank you! :)
That fence looks fantastic 🎉.. I'm wanting to put up a Horizontal fence but this is really nice.. I will post one video on my channel once I put up mine.. simpler but new to me lol
Hi Sarah, you have done a great Project. Compliments and Greatings from Bavaria!!
beautiful, this gives me some idea for my future deck
Beautiful work ,awesome job 💪🏽
Awh thx!!
Awesome job, looks great!!
Looks like they chose clear coat...
That's would be my choice. Rich, natural color and grain. Great idea with the lights. And your Trademark diamonds. Looks great.
yea it was really rich stain I liked how it turned out!
The camera work, especially the angles were simply amazing:)
Awesome fence, great to see you so passionate about your work👍 great video too, you should have your own show on national tv 😁 keep up the good work 🤟
Awh thank you :)
The lights made the wall really nice
Amazing work!!
Nice job CONGRATS, 👍😊👏👏👏
Watching this from the UK I'm so envious of the quality and availability of timber you have. At current UK prices the WRC you've used would cost as much as the house!
Nice design!
Thank you!
Gorgeous!
Appreciate!
Lovely Work
Super cool job!
Love this
I’m building this tomorrow! Great look to it.
yasssss!!
Great job sara
Love this. Going to do something similar to my house in Denver.
great! Send a picture on ig if you do!!
Nice design. We got a pallet of pecky cedar that we’re using horizontal. I think I’m going to tweak your diamonds and make little medallions to cover the seams. Our boards are more random lengths and generally shorter, though most are at least starting as 1x12’s.
I think is beautiful!!!
Just come across your channel great to watch fence looks stunning
Awh thx!!
Had to watch it twice, 1st time I didn't hear a word she said 😁
She said she didn’t know if they wanted it breast height or chest height.
Men of culture i see .
Beautiful job.! What kind of nail and nail gun did you use for the horizontal panels?
Looks great Sara 👍 Well done 👍😁🇦🇺
thank you!
@@sarabendrick1828 👍😁🇦🇺
Curious to know why you decided on 3/4" spacing between boards?
Boom 💥 brilliant 👏
Excellent job. Subscribed!
appreciate it!
Wonderful content and pretty much the best vid around on horizontal fencing. Was wondering, how do you cap those 2x4 fence posts? Ty!
you can add a cap if you'd like! and screw it to the top of the fence posts
What stain did you end up using? And how did you apply it? Looks really good 👍
That's a pretty cool demonstration.
Thank you! What was your favorite part?
Dope fence.
I love it
I had some doubts at the beginning but, with the addition of the finish, the decorative pieces and the lighting it came out very nice! I am quite impressed. That is an excellent job with a uncommon attention to small details.
Thanks a bunch!
Very Cool!
Good job 👍
Beauty & intelligence. Perfect combination 💯
You are fantastic !
"Just gonna use this as my big fat a$$ - accent." @9:01 ROFL slip of the tongue there... had me laughing!
its so cool
I'm a sucker for watching a beautiful woman working construction. Great produced video. Love the timelapse sequences.
Thank ou 🙌
I like it looks good 👍
Had a question about code. If your putting a fence up, it’s supposed to be finished on the other side. I assume since you attached it to the current fence, it’s yours to do with what you want, but you went up higher then the other side. Doesn’t that have to be finished on the other side up to that height?
Great vid! 🙌🏼🎶🛠⚡️😎
Great music ;)
It was great job
That came out great. I have some cement retaining walls in my pool yard that I was thinking about doing this to. I’d love to see a video about how to start a wall like this that is sloped at the bottom.
keep the slats level. As they run into the slope or grade change let them die off.Dont angle them to the slope, it wont look good :)
@@sarabendrick7252 thanks for that reply Sara! My yard has a few weird dips so this is great to know!!!
I wonder 6 months later if any code violation issues since it appears to go above the 6 ft fence and attached to it. Then the other issue is when you create void space it becomes a place for wasps & ants to build nests plus difficult to maintain. I've done a few wood privacy screen areas to block out neighbors views and have always done it a foot away from the fence on seperate posts using steel high wind rated ones so it's sturdy. If anyone complains generally nothing in city codes about fencing inside the property line.
Fence looks good but I wouldn’t trust finish nails to hold it in place for long. A siding gun with ring shanks would be the appropriate choice. Preferably stainless steel nails so the tanins don’t cause streaks.
Sound advice . Obviously the voice of experience .
thanks for your input, I'll have to look into the ring shanks
Definitely ring shank if you’re not using screws. April Wilkerson has a nice example as well.
Perfection
nice job 👍
Lovely.
wood width smaller boards? Did you cut to size or source from a supplier
Very nice job! Might suggest a few screws where the cupping is appearing. (or batten strips)
Thank you! I will look out for that! If So I want to use the GRK super tiny head screws lol :)
Great video
I am curious though how local code deals with extensions to fences, since there are usually height restrictions on fence heights. In my neighborhood it's 6 feet. Would they measure from the height of the deck or from the ground level of the existing fencing?
It looks great.I loved it. Where do you get western cedar wood planks?
got them at jw lumber!
@@sarabendrick7252 thank you
Would you prefer a longer lever ideally?
looks great I may have staggered the joints. well done
Great job! I could definitely watch you build all day. 😳
I would be no help at all 😳
So is it ok to use 2x4 for fence posts? Or are those 2x4s only ok to use as posts because they are connected to metal posts from picket fence next to them? Thanks in advance!
Great question! You definately wnat to use 4x4 wood posts or metal post. I added the 2x4 so I could nail anywhere into the posts onsite :)
Nice fence but not sure it’s level . You can not see if a length of timber is level with a 12inch level over that size of length of timber.it’s only going to be level @ the level it has to be some what closer to the length at lest a1-3rd off it.
I’ve been wanting this type of fence for a year. I have a 240ft yard. Contractors bid this at $18,000 🤦🏼♀️🙄 I’m going to do it myself even if it takes all summer!!! What size nails do you suggest? Excellent job!! Looks gorgeous!
More than the size, if you are using pressure treated, make sure the nails or screws are compatible with PT. Rule of thumb is the fastener should extend at least an inch into the structure, so 2” fasteners when attaching 1bys (3/4”).
how long before this all fell apart? looks like you're using an 18g nailer to hold all those boards up
Nice and informative vid!
**one major thing to note:
Homeowners should double check with their City Building Dept for code requirements on allowable deck sizes and fence heights.
No! Screw the city and code! Build and pray for the best!
Alexandre Lacazette 🤣. Yes many people do and find out the hard way... $$$
Don't be suspicious
Just found this. Nice look! No screws or adhesives? How does it hold up over time?
thanks for asking, I havent had trouble with it this way in the past, but i'll do an update if I have to retouch it up! :)
Do you sand the wood before applying any sealant/paint/stain?
Wood commonly has what’s called mill glaze. It is best to sand a surface that will be finished but not commonly done. 80-120 grit should be fine.
I love the fence and would like to build one very similar. Except, I would like to have the fence boards touching each other and not have the 3/4 inch space. One side of my fence faces the street and I need all the privacy I can get. Is there a reason you left the space in, other than for overall looks?
You might have already done it by now - but I think it’s just for looks/effect. Another landscaper I’ve watched uses black weed membranes to put behind the fence so you still get the spaces but also still get privacy.
Estás súper hermosa vas a creser como April, Saludos.
That turned out incredible, good choice of wood and finish. Just out of curiosity tho, did the homeowner have any zoning ordinance issues as a lot of places limit fence height to 6’?
great question. we are 6' from our new ground area.
@@sarabendrick7252 Exactly how I got around a similar situation - elevated the “ground” level. Good job!
Looks great.. one question. Why did you use nails over screws?
smaller heads, screws would be more obivious, but i might have to follow up with some screws overtime if they pull a little over time!
Love ur deck and fwnce:).
I live on a corner lot. I have a slope on the side yard facing the street. The side yard/slope measures 16 ft from home and porch to street fence..
I was gonna flat the area by taking out dirt to do a sunken patio with fire pit but my wife wants a deck. I like the idea of deck cause this way don't have to dig out any dirt:)..my only concern is about the grass under..what did you do to block weeds and grass under deck??
I heard that with the mesh for weeds it creates lots of bugs. Dont know if thoese bugs will be crawling inside house. Lol
I was gonna put lattice and plant some shrubs or evergreens for privacy.
We have weed fabric with mulch and with mulch in another area. No more bugs than normal.
Are the vertical posts secured to the neighbours fence? That could be problematic if the neighbour wants to remove/replace their fence. Just an observation. The fence looks amazing.
Looks like a 16ga finish nailer is used to fasten the slats... Aren't the slats going to pop out after a while? The only time I've seen this done is when also using an adhesive and then the nails are just there to hold the slats in place until the adhesive cures.
thx for the feedback :) might pop in screws down the road if needed
What do you do on the other side of the fence? It seems there is a 2 feet yellow horizontal panel on top o f the existing gray vertical fence, will the neighbor take it as it is?
They did! I dont think it looked terrible on their side, they could always double the lumber but it didnt seem necessary
