    The most magical process of completing a Layout: Scenery! It breathes life to what would have been a dull board!

    Nicely done, these small dioramas are a good way to try new techniques rather than on the main layout. Is it me or have other folks noticed how expensive it is getting to buy all the add on materials we now use. A few pots of paint, some glue and static grass and before you know it a hundred quid has done a runner from your wallet !!

      double it if like me you're ordering from the UK and shipping to the states. LOL. But I would trade the quality of product.

    • @GWilliamsonModels
      @GWilliamsonModels  11 місяців тому

      Yes absolutely, products are expensive to buy, but that’s an initial outlay for the majority of products such as paint, then they’ll last over a few builds - some of my paints were bought about 15 years ago and I’m still using them 😅

    A beautiful creation George! Your videos are great inspiration to me, this one almost makes me want to forgo autumn and do a frosty layout! Well done!

      Give it a go, it’s a lovely atmosphere when you make it. If you follow the channel, you’ll see autumn modelling on the Nant Gwernol layout

    Quality once again. I too lament the lack of scalable LED string lights for this scale. Perhaps a lit Christmas tree, if one can be found, outside on the station's platform might make the tarpaulin doors seem less ominous. LOL. Enjoy your holidays George.

      @GWilliamsonModels  11 місяців тому

      I’ll once bought a few from America, and they really were miniature, pretty much to scale on my 5.5mm layout - but very expensive and delicate!

    I'm a New Englander so I know ice, and the river was excellent. The footprints and 'half cleared' look was very real and slushy looking. However one detail, the path and handrail need scuff. Those are huge snowflakes but definitely in the range if real. One last detail, the train should start and stop slower.

    • @GWilliamsonModels
      @GWilliamsonModels  11 місяців тому

      Yes I was unsure about the size of the snowflakes, but they’ll have to do now! Not sure I’d use them again. I’m glad you think the scenes ok, it’s a first time for me so wasn’t the easiest

      Also the shuttle unit gives no control over start and stop speed, and that really bugged me 😅

    Well done George it looks brilliant, I am feeling really cold sitting my armchair with the heating on looking at it Brrrrr! I wouldn't like to come out the front door of the house having had a Christmas tipple you would either get run over by a train or fall in a frozen river!
    Merry Christmas.

    Lovely little diarama George. You build up the layers so well. I'm definitely going to try using tile grout. These narrow gauge layouts really appeal to me, I'm hooked on 009 and have frequent trips to North Wales.
    If you are considering ideas for future projects (after Nant Gwernol). I for one would be really interested to see what you could do on a 4'x2' board. Its a readily available size, still relatively compact and yet offers a lot more scope for detail.
    Hope your Corris picture wins!

    This episode was sheer Christmas magic!! From nowhere, and this is never going to be done, to ta complete scene. Wonderful. Too much shading on the figures though.. In snow you get powerful up light off the ground and almost no shadows, hence the unreal quality everything gets in snow.

    • @GWilliamsonModels
      @GWilliamsonModels  11 місяців тому

      Thanks, yes I must say this week was a push, I’ve had a lot going on so it’s a miracle this was completed.
      The shadows are dark, but I like them like that, it gives strong contrast to the scene, plus it idea is it’ll be lit up like a very dark day, so shouldn’t have such a intense light on the snow

    Fantastic models there. And I do have a question. Will you be showing any 16mm scale models on the channel as I feel that's something that is really lacking on UA-cam videos like yours where you make the models but in 16mm scale

    • @GWilliamsonModels
      @GWilliamsonModels  11 місяців тому +1

      I’m actually half way through a 16mm model of ‘Sir Haydn’. I’m also about it begin a 7 1/4” in the garden, so both may feature on the channel next summer

    Even though there's no slow down/accelerate feature in the shuttle unit, by running slower the stop will be less abrupt. Will the loco run slow and smooth?

    • @GWilliamsonModels
      @GWilliamsonModels  11 місяців тому +1

      Yes but even when I run it as slow as possible, it still stops suddenly, it’s just something I’ll need to accept on this one

      Good question. I tend to model the same railways as that’s my area of interest, but I’d love to model the Cambrian mainliner. Llangollen also strikes me as a fun one to do. We will see!

      @@GWilliamsonModels Standard gauge? How daring...

  • @DMCRailways
    @DMCRailways 11 місяців тому

    Ooo, I was really looking forward to this and it defiantly didn't dissapoint. I love the idea of doing a snowy/ icy part to my layout so I was very interested.
    Really impressive work.
    Do you think it might be manageable to do 2 scenes identical (so you can swop out yhe 2 modules) and then do one like this? How much more dull/ muted were the colours to start with than normal is what I guess I'm asking, would be easier for me to do 2 the same then winter one up, but unsure how much the white primer does...
    Also, when mixing resin products, I was always taught to mix and then pour into a second container to do a final mix before pouring/ using... this is to avoid the inevitable not fully mixed bits on the sides from becoming 'incluisions' in the pour. Or sticky pockets on the surface. Unsure if it's as needed with those resins but some I've used before were a pain so did 3 mixes to ensure. :) hope that's a helpful idea.

    • @GWilliamsonModels
      @GWilliamsonModels  11 місяців тому +1

      I know a few people who have made multiple identical layouts in different seasons/eras, it’s an interesting concept, but not one I’d personally spend time doing!
      Yes, before I toned down the colours it was pretty bright, and could easily pass as spring/autumn colouring

      @@GWilliamsonModels sorry for the delay in replying, I've been crazy busy. ah fair enough. that's both good to know and valuable to know. I might end up planning a section of mine so that I can try producing 'replacement' seasons some day. ... far too many ideas to ever get round to, planning it seems like a lot of fun though. :)

    Hi George, do you have any recommendations for me and others who don’t necessarily have much money but want to get into airbrushing? Merry Christmas and I hope you get some nice 009 scenery and stock.

    • @GWilliamsonModels
      @GWilliamsonModels  11 місяців тому +1

      So my airbrush is actually budget, as I don’t have the funds for fancy ones. I think I paid about £15-£20 on eBay and it came with multiple nozzles. They won’t be brilliant for really fine work, but for what I do, it’s absolutely fine, so don’t be put off by cheap ones

    • @TheModellersMess
      @TheModellersMess 11 місяців тому

      @@GWilliamsonModels Just wondering, i hear you require an air compresser for them to work. Are these expensive or is there a bugit verson or an alternative? Many thanks and good luck modelling Nant Gwernol :)

    • @GWilliamsonModels
      @GWilliamsonModels  11 місяців тому +1

      @@TheModellersMess yes you need a compressor, but again, you don’t need to spend £100s on one, even second hand as long as it works will be fine!
