I love looking for bikes in the winter. I found a guy who needed the money in January. Got an 07 FZ1 24k miles for only $2500. The only thing it needed was fluid changes, and tires.
Has this ever happened to you? You find the exact bike you're looking for with low milages for way under market value...but's its 1000 frickin' miles away. If it was within a 120 mile range you'd be rushing over to buy it without a second thought. Seems like the one's I want are never close by.
Yup, if you are in a more populated area, the supply / demand thing gets tilted .buying stuff in the off season, or right after new years day( when people aren't riding & need $) is a good tactic
Sounds like we need to open a page for people who live on the east coast and find a deal on the west to be able to alert someone who can take advantage of it. And vice versa. We need to work together haha
Twin-Cam Harley owners in Orange County, CA: * Buy new for $15K. * Ride 15K miles, drop once, ride another 15K. * List 30,000 mile used bike for $15K... "It's a classic!"
It's only worth what someone is willing to pay. Owners who are emotionally attached tend to believe their bike is worth more than they actually are. Great video.
When i buy the bike ( bought and sold four during my life so far ) i always set my mind as : " you just thrown your money in a black hole , forget about that and do not expect ever ! to get some back . Right away , put aside some emergency fund - if bike is stolen today , you`ll get another, cheap one , tomorrow ". Helps a lot !
It's surprising how much it varies per machine. Goldwings are almost lying on the side of the road, if you look for a 20 year old one they're like $1000 even though they're very expensive machines. Popular machines that are known to run for 200,000 miles without a problem, like the VStrom, even a 5 year old bike with 30,000 miles on it is still going for almost new prices (at least around me)
Dual sports of almost any size below $2000 in my area are rare even for like, DR200s, let alone more desirable machines like the DRZ400. Part of why I bought a newer CRF250L - it was really not much more expensive to get a 2017 than a 1992, for some big Quality of Life improvements
Dealers have the insider info of how much banks will loan on it. Take it to a dealer or two and say you want to trade it in on a new one. Take those offers, average them and add 15%. Or at least $800.
If you have a bike with 10 year old tires, your bike needs new tires -- even if they look new (with tire whiskers) and only have 500 miles on them. The layers of rubber get brittle, like old rubber bands that just break when you stretch them.
@@BuddhaRice it "should" be ok since the sun has not been shining on the rubber and drying it out. That's like my motorcycle tires, I bought my 2012 Yamaha Raider S in 2018, so when I got it the tires where already 6yrs old but it was in a dealership and only had 1 mile on it so I figured they should be still good. 5K miles and 1yr later they still seem good.
@@RossMalagarie I bought an 05 sv650 at the end of last year. First bike. Treads looked fine but the tyres were original when I checked the dates got some new pilot road 5s and the difference was insane. So much better!
@@Jisei13 you bought a bike with tires made in 2005 and you got on it in 2018? So 13yr old tires? And how many miles did it have on it? I doubt it was zero but that doesn't matter, the tire manufacturers say after 6yrs tires should be replaced because of sunlight making the rubber brittle but after 8-10 yrs yeah definitely should be changed.
How much should i sell my 2015 Fz8, 3k miles, never dropped, no scratches at all. Brand new condition. First and original owner. Bike is fully paidoff and clean blue title is in hand.
A lot of people miss this point. It is a key component of capitalism. The value of anything is what someone is willing to pay. There is no intrinsic monetary value beyond that. A Vincent is just an old outdated motorcycle unless there are enough people who very much want it and are willing to compete for it. This is the core fallacy of "investing" in collectable items. As generations die off the market for items they found valuable declines.
Your bike is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it. One of my bikes is a 1999 Yamaha Vmax in good condition, but it only blue books just over $2K. There is no way that I could ever replace my Vmax for $2K, nor would I ever sale my Vmax for that low of a price. Blue book values are 100% subjective.
Since a lot of buyers have to get a loan to buy a bike, Kelly Blue book and the NADA values are valid to a point. If you try to buy a bike that is priced $1,000 over high KBB and try to get a loan for that amount, the bank will laugh at you... So, KBB and NADA do have some relevance in buying and selling a bike when it comes to loans on that bike. Just had to toss that in Lemmy. Not trying to jump on you or anything. Not everyone can buy a bike on "sock drawer change."
KBB has no impact on the Value that a lender will give you on a bike. NADA however does. You can borrow more than a Bike is worth, the amount would depend on your credit worthiness and the particular lender's guidelines. 115% to 125% of the Bikes value would not be out of the question with good credit.

Offer it with the mods first, you may get a chance the buyer knows how much the mods are worth.
