Hi Steve. Are before Adam dan Eve fall to sin in Eden Garden. They really can see God? (Not Theophany but real appearance of God). In my opinion Adam dan Eve before fall still cannot see God in real appearance because God is spirit.
Good instincts. God in Himself isn't visible. He's even more than spirit, He's completely beyond anything we can imagine or describe. So in that sense, no, Adam and Eve couldn't see God. The first time we could see God is in Jesus Christ, who is the perfect icon/image of God the Father. However, in a more metaphorical sense, you could say that Adam and Eve were more aware of the presence of God than we are. They spoke with God, for example. Does that make sense?
I agree with you that Adam and Eve were more aware of the presence of God than we are. We in present time only feel God with my heart especially when we pray. But in the past God chose a human to accept revelation of God. These human who chosen by God is a prophet. They are have more awareness of God compared another person by revelation of God not only by their conscience. I think the awareness Adam and Eve before fall like the prophet who accept revelation of God but that is their nature not like prophet which must wait revelation of God to have more awareness.
