These are my favorite trail running and rainy weather running shoe! You got the BEST colors!!!! My colors aren't so great! The only thing I don't like is that they wear out in the bottom cushion pretty quickly for the price!
That's exactly what I was planning to get. I got Merrell Moab Vent 2's and I don't like the arch support in them. Brother I am so excited for you to do the GDT!
Hi Justin, this video got me excited about Hoka. Will be going to the store in a few day to also try this one. I do have a question though: I am a landscape photographer and will be going to the Faroe Islands in november (high chance of cold and wet conditions), are the Hoka shoes also good in these conditions? I would rather go for the Goretex version or perhaps looks at the Anacapa Mid GTX as I also don't frequently do these hike since I live in the flat Netherlands. Would love to hear your opinion/advice, thanks in advance :-)
I went with some salamon trail running shoes super light minimal cushion and I feel like not having enough cushion is making my feet hurt after 6-8 miles think I’m gonna check these out!
Have you tried the Challenger 6 as comparison? I wounder as i used the challengers and they just run waaaay to hot for me, i cant keep using them. Not feeling too sure about speedgoat, wouldnt waste another chunk of money. (I easily run hot even in mild weather)
Very interested in these! Gonna try them on my foot (narrow, flat/low arch, narrow heel). What is the shape of your foot, since the Speedgoat 4 seems to fit them so well? :) You do mention wide
Great timing on this for me. Long, high climbs, a sole blowout, and lots of heel pain have me looking for better shoes. Leaning toward more ankle support, but this is good info. Thanks! Dave J
Hokas will definitely blow out the sole on you. I’ve had 3 pairs - all soles started to seriously delaminate at less than 50 miles. One has a 3-finger hole punch through the foam of the heel. Look for shoes with one continuous piece of rubber on the sole. Not little bits glued on with exposed foam in between. Unless you’re just going to run on buffed paths.
@@bihlygoat Love the Peregrines too! but then, Xodus came along (like adding 1/4" of pwrrun stuff under your peregrines). I.m around 50km in them, and so far the peregrines are getting less time outside to play lol
Totally picturing you filming this while standing on one leg with the other shoe on that foot.
Yeah, me too 😅
I have been using HOKA One's for the past 6-months and really like them! I may have to give the Speedgoat a try now. Thanks for the great review!

I have completely demolished my speedgoat 3. Best shoe ever owned. Will upgrade!
My favorite shoes. I’m on pair number 4.
Agreed! I love mine
this were my first pair hoka's and already in love with the brand that i bought a second pair lol.

Thanks for sharing. Side note, that Astoman shirt is my favorite hiking shirt.
Are you talking to your shoe? 🤣🤣
Sometimes I really think that people who are passing by while we are filming must think that we totally lost it 😅

I'd go non-goretex
@@JustinOutdoors But how do you continue the hike if you get wet feet, when you're hammered with rain and constant moisty underground?
I agree 💯
The Challenger is a less technical model; great for well groomed trails and roads

Good review man
Ide like to see a review of the Hoka One One Anacapa Mid GTX

I'm looking at this shoe for a PCT Sobo next year.

I am so curious to these shoes, but I am afraid to let my Altra's go, as they were real game changers for me.
The speedgoats are very narrow. I had to change the innersole in mine.
@@SteffenThomsen that's very good to know. Thanks.
@@theoutdoordogandhikinggirl You can get them in a wide model, but the toebox is still a lot tighter than Altra's.
@@SteffenThomsen and that's exactly what I love so much about the Altra's.
@@theoutdoordogandhikinggirl If only they didn't look like clown shoes.
Mine is starting to rip around the forefoot crease.

@@bihlygoat Thanks!
What were your thoughts on the Topo mountain racer 2? Finally picked them up a and feel pretty darn comfortable
Haven't tried them! Not as much cushion though.
They're the next on my list. Have you tried the Saucony Xodus?
I love my Saucony Peregrines. Have two pair (one is the ST version). They fit me like slippers and have a surprising amount of cushion.

Looks like the Weaselhead area there 👍
Still loving my Altra Olympus 4
Ok. But what shirt is that? Also a good sounding laugh
OR Astroman!
Would you recommend this for summer hiking? I don't plan on running in them, just need a pair of light hiking shoes
They are my go-to summer hiking shoes. Used them for 1200km on the GDT this past summer.
do you have a coupon code?
Hey Justin, Would this shoe work as a daily driver, for fall and light winter use? Thanks! :)
I'd be hesitant to use them as a daily driver in winter and probably only limited fall use.
@@JustinOutdoors Thanks for the reply Justin. :)
Would these shoes be good for a range of base weights? Or is there a maximum base weight you'd recommend when wearing g these shoes
Footwear is super personal and depends on you. I've used the shoes with everything from a 5lbs pack to 50lbs pack.
Have you checked hoka's anacapa low? my favorite design from hoka.
I have the high!
Do they run true to size? I found some hokas a little small.
They did for me :)
Have you tested the speedgoat 5?
I have! 100 mile review coming out this week on my Gear Priority channel!
like Hoka and their soles have been wicked soft. How long do they last....??
Lasted me >600km on the GDT
👌 👍
