  • This tutorial is done in the Overlay Mosaic Crochet Technique. In this tutorial I will teach you how to crochet this eye catching Mosaic Crochet design.
This pattern is worked in a MULTIPLE of 9 + 3. ROW START TIMES PROVIDED BELOW. In the round info also below. IN THE ROUND IS WORKED BY ONLY CHAINING IN MULTIPLE OF 9.
TO REPEAT THE DESIGN FOR LARGER PROJECTS YOU WILL WORK ROWS 1 THRU 20 AND THEN WORK ROWS 3 THRU 20 AS MANY TIMES AS YOU WOULD LIKE FOR THE PROJECT YOU CHOOSE. See more info below on working in the round.
COLOR CHANGE: Color A can be changed to a new color at Row 20, Color B can be changed when you start Row 3 again to continue working up. You will complete all color A or B Rows in the new color until you reach the row again where you can change color again or continue on.
The Colorwork/ Cake video mentioned can be found here:

    PROJECTS:
Suggested starting chains for various projects - counts include +3 at end for FLAT:
Baby blanket: 120 chains depending on yarn size used
    Place mats: 57 chains
Table Runner: 57 chains for total width of table runner, you will then work the repeats to obtain the total length for your table.
    Throw blanket : 183 chains
Tote or Throw Pillow: 57 to 102 chains depending on yarn size used and desired size, create 2 and seam together
Makeup or Notions bag: 30 to 57 chains, create 2 and sew together or see in the round info below
Scarf: 48 chains depending on yarn size used and desired width. I recommend size 3 light weight yarn or smaller for garments. work until desired length
Shawl: 93 chains, you are working the total width, and will repeat the design until you reach the desired length
IN THE ROUND- Slip stitch to first chain and you must work into that first stitch following the repeat given in the video IN THE ROUND IS WORKED IN THE MULTIPLE ONLY, YOU DO NOT ADD 3 STITCHES TO CHAIN COUNT:
Makeup or Notions bag/ Clutch: 72 chains
Throw Pillow: 12" to 16" depending on yarn size used, tension and hook: chain 99
Cup Coozie or Candle band: 36 chains using size size 3 yarn is suggested
Bag or Tote: 135 chains for large tote/bag
Treat bags/Mini gift bags: 36 to 45 chains
Cowl: 99 to 117 chains depending on yarn used
You can create any project you like from Mosaic Crochet, these are just a few suggestions!
HOOK SIZE: I am using a E 4.5mm hook in this tutorial, this is a Nelsonwood hook, I am not affiliated or sponsored. Please visit the www.nelsonwood.net for more info.
I recommend using the below hook sizes depending on yarn used:
    3 DK yarn : 3.125mm to 4.5mm
    Size 4 Medium/worsted weight: 4.0 mm to 5.0mm.
    Mixing 3 & 4 weight: 3.5mm to 4.5mm
THE YARN: I'm using size 4 yarn, any brand will work as well as any size.
Color A is Yarn Bee Sugarwheel in Candied Orange
Color B is Yarn Bee Sugarwheel in Parisian Macaroon
Note on mixing yarn sizes 3 (DK) & Size 4 (Medium Worsted weight): THE TRICK TO MIXING YARN SIZES IS JUST KEEPING YOUR TENSION EVEN AND USING THE SMALLEST SIZE HOOK RECOMMENDED FOR THE SMALLER YARN! You can use any yarn size you like and can use yarn that is all the same size, you do not have to mix yarn sizes.
    Project info and starting:
To begin your project you will chain in multiples of 9 plus 3 at the end to work a flat piece. You will skip the first chain and begin working in the second chain from the hook, ending up with an odd number of stitches. EXAMPLE: I chained 21 and had 20 stitches at the end of my first Foundation Row FOR FLAT.
TO WORK IN THE ROUND: chain in multiples of 9 and slip stitch to the first chain. Begin working the repeat in the first stitch [same stitch you slip stitches into] and follow the Repeat as given in the video.

Hello, and thank you in advance. I'm beginning my Mosaic crochet journey. Of course, people in the fiber community recommended I watch your videos. I'm a bag maker, and I intend to use this technique to make bags, so I especially appreciate your showing the technique in the round.

Awe I was recommend! Well I certainly hope you enjoy the videos! I love working mosaic in the round, less ends to deal with! I just recently started including that info with the videos but the secret on most of my patterns is drop those + stitches and just chain in the multiple.

I watch a lot of your videos. Can I do this if I’m left handed?

    • @FiberFoxStudios
      @FiberFoxStudios  3 роки тому +2

Yes the pattern is even no matter if you work it from right to left of left to right so you should have no issue with this one.

Thank you going to make a baby blanket. So I should chain 120?

    • @FiberFoxStudios
      @FiberFoxStudios  3 роки тому +1

Correct, that will give you 13 diamonds or repeats of the pattern plus 3 additional stitches for the sc at start and end of row and the turning chain so you can start row 1. 9×13=117 +3= 120 stitches to start. If you find it too long or short you can adjust by adding or subtracting 9 stitches. Hope that makes sense. 😁
