I've noticed in general that actors who sing usually have clearer diction than people who only sing. Michael is a great example - the words matter, he makes sure we can hear them.

I wonder if If You Stayed Here happened in Michaels life..if he went through many changes and threw out souveniers of a lost friend....and this was a very personal song to him that made him reflect on his own life...maybe he experienced the lyrics in his own life and it made him overcome with emotion....and that crying was probably NOT an act but genuine tears because it reminded him of past trauma....???

Yes. His eyes are filling, and you can see the sparkle of tears behind his eyelids. He puts so much feeling into what he sings.
