Played on hardest difficulty & all 4 bonus levels found.
No autofire used even if it looks like it.
All the annoying clicking sounds are from when charging up the weapon, which I don't do that often, but you hear the clicking sound anyway as I press fast. Bit annoying to hear them.
Wonder what the numbers at 36:04 mean.
Edit:
Turns out a 5th bonus level existed, it's inside the mouth of the fish boss. Oh well, too late now :)
Also, quote from HoL: "All versions of Apidya contain the numeral 'II', but it is not a sequel to any game. The four japanese katakana characters アビヂヤ in the title screen spell out 'A-BI-DYA'." - Ігри
inside the rotten rat, the best bonus level ever
Adaś Miauczyński that explains this 17:58 but,WHAT THE HELL,WHAT THE CREATORS WERE THINKING?!
This game is really mind-blowing, the memories =)
The best shoot em' up where you play as a bee.
Other then Insector X.
Jolt-Z The Game was hard a shit! 😂
What's the worst one?
Pop and twin bee?
Beekyr Reloaded is good and they gave a nod to Apidya.
BEAUTYFUL AMIGA 500 GAME ONE OF THE BEST SHOOT´EM UPS OF ALL TIMES ! KEEP ON DOING MORE AMIGA GAMING COVERS ! GREAT TRIBUTE
Never made it past the sewers haha really enjoyed this game, especially for the Huelsbeck soundtrack. Nice gaming IRONCLAW.
Best Amiga game, great graphic and music. I played in my Amiga 1200.
Great game, great Amiga model.
Stage 2 sound so japanese style that i REALLY thought this was a licensed console game at first, it was just Huelsbeck doing its homework well, studying the chords that are in console game soundtrack and giving it a FM feeling, well done!!!!
No Wait?! You mean the pond stage?! Because it doesn't really sound that Japanese console style to be honest. Perhaps the 1st stage a bit.
@@alxxz Think at the shooters of the early 90s like p47 or pc engine ones pr super aleste in the super NES, they use funky style chords instead of the rock style chords of western shooters
@@simonebernacchia Well I grew up as a kid in the early 90s playing shooters on the consoles like Thunder Force III, Gaiares, Axelay, Life Force, B-Wings, Gradius, Hell Fire & Zero Wing and I only got into PC-Engine games like Soldier Blade & Lords of Thunder in the early 2000s via emulation and the Apidya music doesn't really sound like any of those. The techno stage theme sounds a bit like the music from Zed Blade on the NEO GEO I suppose.
@@alxxz That is my perception, does not sound like western shooters going for soft chords rather than hard ones
@@JMDAmigaMusic No it doesn't, but it doesn't really sound like Japanese shooters either. Its OST is unique and awesome like most OST done by Master Composer Chris Huelsbeck, the most iconic being the Turrican series of course and especially Turrican II. Oh and by the way, Turrican II AGA was ported just 2 weeks ago from the 256 color PC version onto the stock AMIGA 1200! Do check it out, it's awesome and even includes extra secrets and in-game bonuses as well as the Sound Blaster 16 version of the OST!
My favourite game of all time. :)
You missed one bonus level - you can fly into the giant pike's mouth during the boss fight (although don't do it after you've killed the boss - when I tried this, the game got stuck). This takes you to a bonus level inside the pike's stomach. I don't know what it was with this game and flying through the insides of animals. ^^
It's interesting that you got to the bonus level on level 4 (Speed of Light) - this was something that nobody reported finding for 15 years.
I know I did, I mention it in the video description. The guide I followed only mentioned 4 of them, that's why I didn't know of or included the 5th.
I AM IRONCLAW! Tell him’ man! Needs to learn to read!
You are incredible man!
22:44 nice house music
Omg how could I forget the angels and demons !!!!
loved this game and the music.
One of the best side-scolling shooters ever. And awesome music from Chris Hülsbeck (favorite one is the credits songs). Used to play it coop with a friend of mine a lot back these days. We also managed to win the hard mode - which is absolutely not easy - but IronClaw is way more effective than we were. So kudos for that :)
I knew about the fish boss bonus IronClaw missed when watching the video, but the one in the techno-level we never found. Nice to know. Also the little trick or glitch(?) kill he used for the techno boss was new to me.
You ever wonder what Hexxaae's motivation was in all this?
Back when games had bolted-on mostly-irrelevant intro sequences.
till 20 min i came then game over nice game fantastic soudn and graphics! Nice Played Ironclaw!
Thanks!
Darn Ikuro has a garage size mouth!
27:47 ok slow...

*NEEEEEOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMM!*
best bee simulator ever
A very cool game with fantastic music from Chris Hülsbeck. But it was waay to hard for me.
As for those numbers - I do not know, maybe her face was going to be animated and "4" "1" are numbers of animation cells, like somebody forgot to remove them from final product. 41 can also be "For one", but who is that one? or 41 was somehow important number for developers :)
GzegzolkaDA hmm? Not sure what you mean
an extensive article on Apidya can be found here: www.hardcoregaming101.net/apidya/
No they mispelled it, real translation is アピディア instead they used the chi (チ) katakana character with (inbcorrect) nigorization (the " ) so that reads ABIJIA
Yeah, as if the "II" was correct, since there never was a 1st game to begin with! :D LoL!
@@alxxz i would go for a IV numbered sequel
@@simonebernacchia Me too! By far the best Shoot Em Up on the AMIGA and one of the best on any system! Very fond memories playing through it all Summer 1994!
Nice engrish in the intro.
Looks like a Contra games.
The Bee Movie: Amiga Edition
On the Amiga, Banshee is the best top down shooter and this is the best side scrolling.
I never liked Banshee because it's so dull without music, it also has boring sound effects.
@Neb6 oh, it's got to be battle squadron!
@@iamironclaw Yeah,SWIV is so much better, ok it doesn't have in game music but it does have awesome sound effects and plays really well.
@@stephenhall2980 I don't like SWIV, I prefer Silkworm over SWIV.
Okayyyy... an interesting (if a bit cheesy) premise turns into a basic 3rd person shooter. Okay, a bit anticlimactic from the get-go. The graphics are killer, though.
How fuckin ridiculously difficult that game is, like seriously I'm loosing my shit every 5 secs, why creators, whyyyyyy ????!!!!!
It's not that hard. I could get to the last level as a younger teenager.
Honestly, it is obvious that they made bug shooting game first, then messed up something.. forced to make up crap story and cutscenes to cover that up.
Great game :)
The numbers, Mason. WHAT DO THEY MEAN??
I wish I could find some videos of people actually *playing* amiga shoot em ups, instead of just gratuitously cheating their way through them. I loved this game! It feels a bit insulting to only find videos of people pretending to play it, rather than actually playing it!
I know what you mean. These playthroughs of old games (aka "longplays") are 99% of the time emulated, and thus savestates/re-recording is used. I TRY to make mine look more "natural" by actually taking hits here and there and dying a few times. Most of the time in my videos it's "legit" playing, as I want to use as few savestates as possible (being lazy and all that as well as Amiga game emulation doesn't have proper re-recording, and using savestates is a pain in the ass). It annoys me when I see others just go through games doing everything perfectly and never getting hit, which is like most of everyone else's longplays.
So, in the case for my own longplays, most of them, and most of the duration of those videos are "legit", only using a savestate here and there when I really struggle. Thus, many of my videos' gameplay looks like shit while others who did the same game "play like gods".
There are 1 or 2 channels where people play Amiga games on the real hardware, thus poor picture quality, but at least not emulated, but both those UA-cam channels use trainers instead for unlimited health/lives, which is worse, IMO.
I'm trying to do the best of both worlds - best picture quality thanks to emulation and "natural/legit" playing thanks to being lazy and also wanting to use as few savestates as possible, just enough so I can make it through the games.
@@iamironclaw I don't know what I fudged, but it was something bad!
That comment was supposed to be on an r-type 2 video for the amiga where the poster was using invincibility cheats for the entire run!!
I don't mind a bit of savestating (although I'll admit here it's a bit gratuitous, in that it doesn't really feel like a representation of the actual apidya playing experience!), but rest assured that comment was a clipboard error!
I just watched your video and enjoyed it! Apidya is another amiga shoot em up I loved! (shootemups were kinda 'my jam' back in the early 90s. Even today I love titles like 'enter the gungeon' the most!)
@@xxxxSylphxxxx No problem-
Anyway, in this case with Apidya, I suck at shooters and died constantly, so had to use a bunch of savestates or I could never make it through it. But most of the time in most longplays I've done, it's used as little as possible.
Cheats is something I would never use, and yeah, like I said earlier, some UA-cam channels that does Amiga longplays use trainers in all of them, bleh, and of course getting way more views than me.
@@iamironclaw Well, I'd consider a savestate a cheat. It's a minor one though, and the video I thought I was commenting on used invulnerability.
You might want to include an actual hit from an enemy bullet now and then though! Y'know, getting hit and losing lives *is* a part of these games. In fact in apidya's case it's a *massive* part of the game haha!
@xxxxSylphxxxx I like to type a lot :P, there's a "TL;DR" at the bottom.
I totally agree savestates are a form of cheating, but when it comes to "longplays", they are 100% accepted, or any playthrough. Cheat codes and exploits is not accepted (I'm part of a big longplaying community and started it myself with a buddy 15 or so years ago). Even all those thousands of "speedruns" people do have savestates as accepted.
Without savestates, these videos would be sooo terrible to watch and unnecessary long, as people would just die over and over and over again, or struggle with certain parts until they make it... like trying to get a special item in a tricky spot, no one would wanna watch a player spend 10+ minutes to get this one thing. And those who play through games with invulnerable cheats has no effort at all, as they don't have to dodge every projectile coming at them, as it often just passes through them, while I have to avoid every one or I die (unless this game allowed for multiple hits before dying), and when playing this, I got hit many many times every minutes, needed 100s of save states, took forever.
Most longplays and speedruns I've seen, people don't take a single hit, which I fucking hate. I try to make my longplays look "natural", and thus I use as few savestates as possible (which can make it take 5 times or more longer to finish the game tho). So, I take hits - not just to make it look more natural, but also to SHOW more of the game, like what happens, the sound effect, and I also lose lives so we can see that as well, which practically no one does.
However, in some few games, most of the longplay I don't die but I do take hits (note: game overs and using continues are not allowed in longplays), and the reason for that is I lose a lot of progress, like skill and weapon build-up, which is why I didn't wanna die in Apidya as it just makes it even harder, and this game is already brutal, but I'm sure I took hits here and there, unless this was a one-hit-and-you-die game (forgot and too lazy to check the video).
My aim is always to show as much of a game as possible and make it look "natural", which most of my videos are, as I wanna use as few savestates as possible, so I do take hits, kill myself if possible without ruining stuff. In some games I even include some extra stuff in the end if they couldn't be shown during the longplay, like a death so people can see what dying looks/sounds like, all different ways you can die (some games have that), game over, interesting cheat codes, all the different endings, etc etc. Sometimes I just put them in videos I call "Extras".
No one cares about the quality of longplays like I do. I often put in a lot of effort in them. A 10 min longplay could have taken me 3 hours to do, while most just play from A-B and don't care to show anything but finishing the game.
My channel has a lot of "Extras" videos showing stuff I couldn't show in the main longplay, also capped out video descriptions with details about the game (sometimes continue in the comments below the video), what differs between this and that version (as there often are several versions of one game, as I download them all, check the differences in game files etc), explaining my thought process on different parts, why I did this and that (as viewers sometimes wonder this and that) and other stuff that I already mentioned 2-3 paragraphs up.
TLDR; 99/100 of my longplays have deaths, getting hit, showing as much as possible and as few save states as possible. It's just some games I decide not to die in, so show it at the end of the video instead, if it's a good enough death animation thingy, or I don't include it. So, this longplay is a rare case. I had to use 100s of states as I kept dying like every 3-6 seconds, and with no powerups after dying, it wouldfs I didn't know about it.
Just take my latest longplay for instance, Rygar, I didn't wanna lose my powerups from dying, so killed myself on the last level to show it off before I beat the game + get more of a challenge as I was much weaker after that.
this is a gradius like game... i played a lot of amiga games but not this...
que buen juego nice game
Odd, this looks the same on Hard Mode as Easy. What are the differences?
Don't know. This is the only time I've played it. Difficulties usually makes enemies harder, like they either do more damage or they can take more damage before they die, or both.
+Dan Warren (Forgottenretroworlds79) the amount of enemy bullets and their velocity
Stefan Becker Oh. Thanks for dat :)
AND hard includes all stages; if i remember easy finished after the garden and no end music for ya - whoops! That was practice :/
Simone Bernacchia Similar to Turrican 3/Mega Turrican.
What the fuck are those credits

It's early 1990s pure Techno dude! House wasn't even around until 1999-2000!
