- Today we compare the endings of Tenchu Stealth Assassins / Shinobi Gaisen / Shinobi Hyakusen ... One of the greatest Playstation 1 games ever made, but the ending was changed in the American release.
On the left is the Japanese version and on the right is American.
Personally I like the Japanese version more, what about you guys?

Rikimaru went back to the portal, traveled to the future, survived against fat cops, traveled back to face Onikage!!and seeing him Taking back his Sword Izaioi back from his grave in Tenchu 3 was priceless!! "I am Rikimaru, and iam a Shadow"
This is the 1st game i remember staying the WHOLE walkthrough behind my big brother playing it. He wasn't very interested in videogames, but when i grabbed good titles like Metal Gear Solid he stayed with me to beat the game. This one in particular made my cry , i remember my brother trying to convince me "its just a videogame" and "dont worry, Tenchu 2 will come soon you will see" (:
I wished i could go back to those times
And then tenchu 2 turned out to be a prequel… then they did tatsumaru like that… this series is incredible and was never concluded. 😢
Regardless of which version you played, the ending was bitter sweet to me. But that song... I still remember it like it was yesterday.
Survived and came back more badass than ever 😁

(1:45) Aw man - I didn't remember that brief cut to Ayame in the Japanese version ending.
After all, with Rikimaru's -supposed- death, this would make her the last of the Azuma ninja.
(2:05) I think the localised version's 3d animation here does express a greater sense of sorrow though.
Its not as though Ayame is a heartless kunoichi - having a close bond with Princess Kiku and all,
Though perhaps that wasn't finalised as a concept until the sequel.
I think both versions handle pretty well though her planting the Izayoi in the ground,
Both to commemorate her fallen comrade and signify the impending end of the Azuma ninja clan.
I have recently rediscovered this game's OST. I'm really happy I did.

2:07 Ayame has lost Master Shiunsai, his love Tatsumaru, and now Rikimaru his partner, leaving her being the Grand Master of the Azuma Clan.
Well, that leadership didn't last long 😅
I prefer the japanese version. It captures more the oriental way of history telling
I like the artwork in the Japanese version more, they aren't just 3D models, the PS1 wasnt the best for 3D so they didn't age so well... while the Japanese version and its comic book style aged very good!
This ending music and this OST it's wonderful
I like how the game made an effort to give a 3d ending for the Western audience. The 2d ending for Japan made everything too riveting.
I can't exactly say the English version is better, but the thing that bugs me about the Japanese version is how wonky the proportions are on the animated storyboard. The Japanese version gets a big plus for that split second frame of Ayame looking back at the rubble trapping Rikimaru inside. That's character that the English version loses sometimes with how snarky she can be.
Good lord, when that music hits, man...
The 2D is pretty timeless, but I can see how mind blowing at the time the 3D was.
For the first time ... The US version is better

The JP version is clearly an animated storyboard, but it still looks better than the 3d models.
I actually wondered why they changed the ending from 2D to 3D. I would like an explanation for it.

i wouldn't mind if they update the controls a little bit, too. maybe more like Wrath of Heaven where you can run in any direction at any moment.. ditch the tank controls and everything will be perfect

live by honor, kill by stealth!!! I have both versions when i was a kid, but i loved more the japanese version i believe have some adult content as well wich for me it gives the game a more realistic setting

Американцы как всегда, пытаясь сделать лучше - все испортили. Японская концовка однозначно лучше, чувственней, атмосферней, не смотря на более простую графику.
