In 2021 I finally built a gaming PC and could experience it to it's fullest. I'm so proud of the people at BeamNG. Watching this game grow over the years has been amazing. They did an amazing job.
The first video game I ever played was GTA vice city, and the only reason I loved it at the time was that you could crash the cars. When The devs moved BeamNG onto steam, I got an email with a product key for the steam version. The game has had so many updates since 2013, the first update I ever saw was the Ibishu 200BX. Back then The soft body physics were almost beyond state-of-the-art. One of the main reasons I built my PC was for BeamNG back in 2015. I had trash specs but i built what i could afford at the time. Here we are in 2023, and I'm still playing it with my brother and our Logitech racing wheels on BeamMP. This has the best physics compared to any other racing sim we have played. Especially after the racing wheel update they did a while back. I LOVE BeamNG!

i remember in 2016 sometime, i was around 12-13 years old when i was actually thinking about making a game with a similar mechanic as the nodes and beams that beamng uses. at the time i had a magnet set. i cant remember the brand but it was basically a bunch of magnetic ball bearings and little sticks that would link up using the bearings as joints. i had thought about the idea of games using a similar mechanic to have more satisfying bending of metalic materials. these magents were one of my favorite toys along side legos of course. im not sure if youtube will let me link it but there are still sets you can buy today that are very similar. anyway i wanted to figure out how to make a game that used a similar idea to play around with. i didn't have a computer and my school was pretty rural and underfunded so they offered nothing in terms of computer sciences. then i found a whybeare video. it had autoplayed from a robocraft video that i was watching because i was super interested in realistic/satisfying destruction sandboxes. of course robocrafts much different now then it was at the time. but at first i didn't really think anything of it. he was just driving around in a d series and i didn't really get to see the actual physics. when he hit a wall with that truck i was thinking 'wow thats some really good crashing models. looks super realistic.' but the more i watched the more i realized that it wasn't just crashing models, it was a full on sim of an actual vehicle. this was the first and so far only game that i have seen a similar concept implemented. the fact that its so popular now and the devs have fleshed it out so much is amazing. now that i have a pc beamng has been one of my top 3 favorite games for years. its the literal embodiment of something that i had wanted for so long as a kid and actually found.
I remember playing the demo back in 2016 and damn it was amazing. Finally bought the game in 2017 and I've been playing it ever since. I got a sim racing setup now and everything
I remember back in the day when the cars had the same starting sound and now I’m complaining about how the lights on the dash don’t turn off when ignition is off lol beamng devs r amazing with their quick patches and just overall great game
I have know this game since it’s earliest stages (beta/alpha), from a very young age too. It evolved very much. Also everyone in my family knows about the game, and likes it! But yeah, I kind of miss the older BeamNG (the new one is good too, but man the nostalgia in the older versions, and old maps, cars and stuff) EDIT: also I think we have the original tech demo(s) in one of our computers, and we have an old version of the game too
The only thing that makes me really like this game is because it's tight from a big vehicle like a truck moving when the truck is also moving. And when the truck braked. It's really already realistic Bro. And one more. When in first person mode and passing through a tree/tunnel, the shadow in the car is also followed by the shadow of the object that is passing by, just like in the real life
Anyone remember Rigs of Rods? It was pretty much the predecessor of BeamNG, free to play and I was addicted to it. 😂 Now I'm addicted to BeamNG since 2015, it's like a gift that keeps on giving with every update coming out.
Thanks, my channel has mainly short-ish (2 to 5 minute long) videos, but of course if you want to see more long form content, I'll try to make some in the future! :)
I honestly forget when I bought it. Relatively early after it became available on Steam, I want to say, as the 200BX was my favorite car (even though I couldn't drive it yet lol). Looking forward to the 200BX remaster, as the little car deserves it. I had stopped playing the game for a long time though once I got bored of it, and I'd played it once or twice since, but coverage of 0.23? (the one with the tire update) prompted me to pick it back up and start playing in earnest. Between the game being much better, and my own skill being dramatically improved, it's now my favorite game and will soon become my highest-hour on Steam. Just for fun, my favorite car after rediscovering the game was the Covet. I just kept coming back to it no matter what I drove. Although now I've finally gotten a new favorite with the v0.27 update - I LOVE THE STAMBECCO. (4x4 van forever fite me) It's not fast, but it's SO much fun. You can get that thing sideways at will and then catch it again without a problem as long as you don't flip it, and it'll go almost anywhere short of proper rocks and super steep inclines. Add the roll cage and you've got one of the toughest cars in the game.
Yes! You're right, Rigs of Rods is an important step before BeamNG, and for it's time it was also realistic! But I wanted to make more of a shorter video, which really has mainly just the BeamNG history. Though I probably should have at least mentioned rigs of rods :)
I play beam more then any other game. More then GTA and the Sims. In fact i play it almost or everyday while playing GG allin. Its a good way to enjoy cars and smash them at the same time. All i know is the future of beam is going to be epic
One of my favorite little changes was the turbo whistle on diesel engines. For example, take the 6.0L turbodiesel V8. Before, you really didn’t hear a turbo whistle even if you had the highest spec turbo. At some point they changed that and now diesels sound mean as hell
Well it's work in progress still, but it's out! Just click a couple of times on the "career coming soon" button, and you have early access to career mode :)
They never disappoint! I have played beamng for like 60 hours in the past 2 weeks because of the amount of content that was added last update. However, I would like to mention that they could make the traffic a tad bit more realistic since they at the moment have got the IQ of a baby that can't speak. Also the police won't chase you even if you are in a slow car, they just drive way further back and as soon as they get the chance they crash into you. Other than that, it's a fantastic game! Much love for creating this timeline.
My first version of deamng drive was 0.3.0., I got acquainted with this game in the year so 2016, then I was actively looking for new games for myself, in particular it was racing preferably with good damage, for me at that time there were only three games in which there were +/- good damage, this is burnout paradise, the series of games flatout and GTA 4, (why exactly these three games, because these first two were my favorite grams in which I learned that cars can be destroyed in games (of course the games were pirated), but when I saw on UA-cam a lot of videos on the game in which very at that time (2016) realistic damage physics, I also wanted to try to play, watch it, that's how I got acquainted with beamng, the first impressions of this game were amazing, I came up with a lot of cool situations, rally, drift, or just crashed cars, for me this game became a favorite, unfortunately beamng drive was also pirated the version with mods, but it was enough for me, time passed, I searched the Internet for a new version, etc., only in 2020 I decided to buy my favorite game, the game caused a lot of different emotions, although my PC is not really pulling a new beamng, but I can't quit it anymore... Of course, I'm waiting for an update when scratches are added, this is what beamng is sorely lacking. I hope the translator translated my text correctly...

But yeah, I kind of miss the older BeamNG (the new one is good too, but man the nostalgia in the older versions, and old maps, cars and stuff) EDIT: also I think we have the original tech demo(s) in one of our computers, and we have an old version of the game too
Ten years but we stil, have terrible robot narrators. Rip.
Robot Mike returns from Techmoan!
(Imagine Radio Victory logos in BeamNG models)
The only thing that makes me really like this game is because it's tight from a big vehicle like a truck moving when the truck is also moving. And when the truck braked. It's really already realistic Bro. And one more. When in first person mode and passing through a tree/tunnel, the shadow in the car is also followed by the shadow of the object that is passing by, just like in the real life
We went from “hehe wumpa dumpa flabby wagon game” to the ultimate driving experience
nice video dont give up
Anyone remember Rigs of Rods? It was pretty much the predecessor of BeamNG, free to play and I was addicted to it. 😂 Now I'm addicted to BeamNG since 2015, it's like a gift that keeps on giving with every update coming out.
Transforms from this to this: no change
This game literally changed before my eyes. I started playing in 2013 love it very much
This feels so awesome to watch.
I wish Beam was on console
0:01 Lmao looks like the covet crashed into the cameraman and payed the price!
covet and cameraman ded
I remember play the tech demo on my potato PC i had fun , fast forward i still play the realversion and i love it
Happy New Year!
Hope you all had a good 2022, and I hope you will have a good new year!
Happy new year to you :)
Oh mann the video is too short D:
Great video but I wanted to see more
Thanks, my channel has mainly short-ish (2 to 5 minute long) videos, but of course if you want to see more long form content, I'll try to make some in the future! :)
you should've mentioned when they finally added better car sounds
Yeah, you're right, that also was a pretty gamechanging update!
(4x4 van forever fite me)
It's not fast, but it's SO much fun. You can get that thing sideways at will and then catch it again without a problem as long as you don't flip it, and it'll go almost anywhere short of proper rocks and super steep inclines. Add the roll cage and you've got one of the toughest cars in the game.
You missed a biiiig portion of the evolution...you forgot about it's predecessor, Rigs of Rods!
Yes! You're right, Rigs of Rods is an important step before BeamNG, and for it's time it was also realistic! But I wanted to make more of a shorter video, which really has mainly just the BeamNG history. Though I probably should have at least mentioned rigs of rods :)
@@BeamDriver I understand...and ye! If you were to do another evolution video, make sure to include RoR
I know beamng since 2016 and I love these game 👍
Time flies bro, I remember getting in when it came on steam, the beaming website didn’t work on my internet for some reason (not the computer)
rigs of rods was their first attempt even older
Rigs of rods are from a different group no?
This game just satisfies a part of me I can’t explain
Just got it yesterday and clearly I didnt expect such a good game. Shootout to the dev. See ya guys
can't wait for the K series remodel
is crazy the change its gone through. been using it before steam and only cost me £7 at the time
Nice video, I really like this game and watch a lot about it but I don't even have it, looks like a good game
I remember when people were using those Beamng videos from 2012 to especulate that, that was GTA V's car physics 🤣🤣🤣
I discovered beamng from this one UA-camr called Insanegaz back in 2013 or 2014 and till this day he is still posting
They should add normal quick race mode to this game as in Live For Speed and tracks for racing not just few race events
in this game. Yes Seriously.
I play beam more then any other game. More then GTA and the Sims. In fact i play it almost or everyday
while playing GG allin.
BeamNG vr is a must!
i cant wait until the career mode come out!
Much love for creating this timeline.
bought it 2014 and didnt regret it...one of the Best ❤
One day that Campaign coming soon will be done lol
Another massive thing for realism is the various thermal and mechanical wear systems. As well as when they finally redid the sound
The devs deserve a Nobel prize.
ive been playing beam since it came out. still play it to this day.
I remember cracking this game when it first got in alpha, never played since then though 🤣
Me whos playin beamng 0.11 on my school pc: vibin in high fps*
Just picked this up and my gosh the drifting is insane on a wheel
The beam devs are the best devs on the planet
i got the tech demo when it released in 2013 and the full game when it got on steam
That paid alpha version was when I got in the game. Can't believe it's been a decade for me already.
I love it, but I hope we don't have to wait literally 15 more years for version 1.0.
It's one of the greatest games to ever come out.
I have a sim cockpit setup, and it's crazy fun. i have lots of hours
That's what live service is supposed to be
I remember watching jacksepticeye playing this back in 2013 and boy oh boy that made my childhood.
I remember in 2012 seeing that tech demo and in some point i got that to myself😄, in some point i remember how there was talks about shoftbody physics but car game developers didnt really "take a hint", anyway the softbody physics and (bit off topic) voxel physics have come long way👍
greatest car physics sim ever made
