I have several reactive load boxes…they do sound very different from each other, because they are designed with whatever impedance curve of the cab that was used….The Suhr Reactive Load uses an impedance curve of a 4x12 with Greenbacks…The Ox uses a 1x12…The TAE lets you pick from 16 different curves…I think the Red Seven is cool…and it sounds great..but for roughly the same money,I would get a Fryette PS2…which the reactance is adjustable, and you get a tube amp to boot….but the Red Seven’s stereo FX Loop is a nice touch….Great review of a cool box…
The stereo loop is basically to get stereo effects like chorus, delay, reverb with only one amp. I plug my amp to that, then I got L/R and each side has it's own loop, so i can get stereo amp effect with only 1 amp!
Damn, very nice. I want one now. The lack of attenuation doesn't bother me too much, as you can always run the line out to another amp and that way you have all the EQ as well.
Redseven makes incredible stuff. To me the only thing that is missing on the Amp Central is a knob to control the speaker volume. With that feature it would have been a serious contender for the Fryette Ps-2a. Anyway great product on its own and excellent quality as usual. 👍
Appreciate the subjective perspective. You spoke directly to the features and drawbacks, and that's really helpful. But next time, kill the outboard effects when getting into the tonal qualities of the device. Once the evaluations get wet, it's too difficult to discern the value of the hardware. Don't mean to be a PITA. I really enjoyed your respective, and I'm looking forward to future entries.
It seems a bit remiss to me not to include vintage style cab models, like a fender bassman/dual reverb or a Marshall 1960a. I'm sure red 7s cabs are great, but just including something that people know and is "ready to go" would be a good idea imo.
Hi Marcus, Luca here. We thought it was a better idea to make customers listened to our "digital 4x12", to have an insight of how our cabinets could sound, instead of mocking other brand's cabinets. 16 native IRs are all made out of our 4x12 with some of the most famous Celestion speakers (our brands are partners). I think it's nothing out of "standard", beside some very good sounding IRs. Also remember you can always delete or replace all 16 native IRs with your favorite one, which is another focal point of Amp Central.
@@RedSevenAmplification of course you're going to want to show customers your product, but you had sixteen slots, you could have included a vintage cab IR or two. If not only to demonstrate your products with a IR that replicates something that the customer thinks they want from the amp central.
yeah Eddie used a Groove Tubes unit to load down his sound, which then Marshall designed their SE100 after from what I gathered through rummaging through forums at ungodly hours ;) Ive yet to hear one in the wild though.
Is the FX-Loop already processed with the IR? If so it would be possible to use Loop A with a patch cable and use loop B into stereo pedals/effects and run those straight into a mixer, right? That would be kinda awesome to get a wet-dry-wet thingy.
Hi Henning, have you ever used the speakers in your ISO cabs purely as reactive loads? I'm thinking about building an ISO cab only to reduce the sound level, without the need of a microphone, just taking a DI from the speaker cable I'm wondering if that might be the perfect reactive load?
@@EytschPi42 Hi there are plenty of DI boxes that are designed to go between an amp and the speaker, Suhr make one called the 'ISO line out', it has speaker in and out sockets and it it gives you a balanced line out connection with a level control
Pete Thorn did some experiments a while back using the Suhr ISO DI box with various kinds of load including resistive and rective loads and also a real speaker cab, then sending the DI signal to IRs etc, by far the best sounding DI signal he got was when the real speaker cab was used
@@watchtheskies isn't that what you would do with the Suhr RL, for instance, if you loop the amp signal through to your cab and just take the DI from the unit ?
I find the OX more flexible as far as tuning the cabs goes and the room sound, but the reactive load here makes it feel like a big 4X12 cab... tough to say... depends on what you need really...
@@EytschPi42oh seems obvious but…it’s not really, i didn’t realize one(load box) was based off a 112 the other a 412. research is important to save $$$.
The big problem with the REACTIVE loadboxes is, all of them sounds very different from each other, and the resistive load reduces de low end and top end a little. If you put a DI box between your head and cab, and record a DI signal, and then you see how close it is, of a resistive load signal with the same parameters. Easilly compensated by any EQ. That's why I prefer a resistive load. Reactive load trying to simulate the inductance of the transformer is more a matter of "feeling" than sound itself. Torpedo Cab, Suhr, UA OX, Boss Waza, ST Rocks, they all sounds VERY VERY different from each other.
I reamp using a suhr reactive load, take the line level out and send it through a mesa power amp to cabs, just like a fryette power station. Sometimes i send it through my lexicons before the mesa.

What if you're only using headphones and di recording. Which is better?
❤❤❤ for the intro!!

this one has some killer jams guys, all love from Pacific Northwest

How would you compare this reactive load vs the Fryette PS reactive load in terms of feel and sound for direct/silent recording?
Glenn expressed his love for Henning this morning on his stream! Beautiful Paiste cymbals!
Great review! How is in comparison with Power Load IR of Freyette?
I have a video on that as well
Sounds great 👍

It is! The fx loop is after the IR
@@MarcoTattoli Thx for that info! So the amp central can turn any amp into a wet dry wet setup for 600 bucks... That's a big selling point.
luca makes killer stuff. have you tried this against the suhr reactive load?
I don't have a Suhr.... don't like the company to be honest. Not the products, but I had one or two unpleasant interactions.

I took the first Palmer PDI 03 to the states. I showed it to Bob Bradshaw

Does the effects patched into this unit - also come out of the speaker out - on the unit too ?
no, only DI
Where can I listen to the full version of that intro song?
Nowhere, sorry.
Can't resist a comment on the text placement in the thumbnail: you can feel that the designer's hopes were dashed, literally painted into a corner
Resistive loads kinda sound good reamped through a power amp.

80 bucks more than a Captor X and it adds an Stereo FX loop to any amp? That's a huge deal.
yes, but no attenuator at all.... no biggie if you don't need it....
