This is from freezing rain. It needs to be hovering just around 0°C for this to happen with a few degrees lower to make it really stick around. So this is seen when the temperatures are actually not that cold. Saw this a lot growing up next to the ocean in Eastern Canada.

The last couple weeks we’ve been constantly getting weather alerts of extreme cold and/or extreme temperature swings. Really takes a toll on my migraines. But I’d rather -40°C any day than +40°C. I’ve been there. My approach is to hit it with the side (meaty part) of a closed fist. This allows enough pressure to break the ice without potentially damaging the car in any way. It’s tempting to use sticks or the scrapers, but you risk putting dents and/or scratches in your paint
Yeah I’m a dummy, my first experience with ice similar to this and I used the ice scraper on my actual car and scratched the paint in multiple spots 🥴 idk what i was thinking

This is why when I was living in Wyoming all of my cars had remote starters installed since I had to wake up for work at 3, first thing I did was start the car (I’d always have the heat set to full blast before parking it), take a shower, heat up breakfast, and by then the car would be warmed up and defrosted enough for me to drive it
I saw a video of this place in Russia where they either left their cars indoors or left them running the entire winter because the cold would freeze everything. I've always wanted a remote start, block heater works for me most times I guess.
@@emperora9 I currently have a 2014 Infiniti with a remote start and keyless push to start and you still need the fob in possession to put the car in drive. When the remote start is running, you need your key with you to step on the brake and push the engine ignition button to let the car know you are ready to drive then you can put it in drive. I believe this works with almost every push to start car with remote start
Oh yes... I feel this pain! An ice storm trapped my family and I from leaving our home years ago.. Tree branches became so heavy, they ended up becoming a "natural gate" all the way down our driveway. The ice on the vehicles was about 3 inches thick and the tree branches were so damaged, it was quite the mess to clean up in the thaw. 😨
