Joel, I cannot believe how helpful your videos are, even all these years later. I just watched this one as well as the LED headlight one and the window scraper one. All will be necessary for me very soon
Thanks John, I try to put up videos I think will be helpful to folks.
Excellent information, I have a 1978 Super Beetle that needs the same treatment.
Thanks
Mate you’re a legend. Just followed your video and the dash came out easily. Saved me hours. Thank you for your help.
Thanks Russell, glad it helped.
One of the only videos that actually tell you how to do that job. Thanks. My car was home for squirrels or raccoons for some 40 years and was full of peach seeds and snail shells.
Thanks Chris, glad it helped.
Hey great to see you back ...look forward to more !
My 75 super beetle is Harbour Blue and your posts are very valid and helpful for me
Thanks Alex, hoping to get some more up soon.
Yes going to need to look at the other videos!!
Great video man!! Love your garage brother!!
thanks, it’s a bit cleaner than in my old vids
Cheers mate!! Getting ready to tackle my 74 cabriolet and all the beasties of mismatched wiring to speedo.
if you problem on electrical the wire are set just like any other the only thing to note its posotive ground on the speedometer !
Nice to see you back, Joel! please post more content of the suba beetle, your original videos are what motivated me to swap my 74 super. Life has kinda gotten in the way though and ive been building subarus ever since. I need motivation again to get to work on the super
Thanks Andy, I know what you mean, I was playing around with late model golfs for a few years so suba beetle didn’t get much attention.
Great video. I live in the US, and my '74 Super Beetle dash is cracked to heck and back (like yours). I'm going to be tackling this soon.
I’m sure there would be places in the US that do dashboard restorations, there is here in Australia but be sitting down when you see the price.
@@BoostedVW You can get a plastic molded cover for it.
@@imgnr1 those are pretty rubbish, they warp in the heat.
Great video. Thanks 👍
I installed my super beetle - not long ago. What a pain in the butt that was.
going back in is always harder
BoostedVW Yes it was honestly. My windshield is out so it made it a bit helpful.
Slade can you buy replacement dashboards in the states and did you do a video of yours???
Syd Lewis unfortunately I did not do a video of my dashboard. I was quite lucky mine was in good shape and I installed it. I do have a video up of before the installation so you could see the ductwork.
But.... I have a dash on hand that is all cracked up. I’m going to do a video showing on how to refurbish it. You might want to stay tuned for that. And thank you for being here.
@@SladesVWBeetle will do!!
I like your videos. I wish you had a bay as well... Keep up the great work.🙏
Thanks a lot man !!!
Hey Man. I'm not sure where you are in Oz but I'm just hoping that the fires are keeping away from you, your family and your property. Stay safe mate. Pete
I have the same issue with a cracked dash. I have the dash out, but don't know where to have it repaired. Gold Coast Qld. Any suggestion please.
Great video would like to replace mine but original is to far gone to repair. Want to replace but can't find new ones?????
Thanks, unfortunately no one makes new factory style ones, you can get various fibreglass versions.
You need to get an original one restored or get lucky and find a good used one
I saw a hydraulic steering ram, Did you install that yourself?
It’s just the steering damper.
They all have that factory except ones with rack and pinion.
Oh right, someone had installed hydraulic, I’m putting 6 inch smoothies on mine, not sure how it will handle as you know they are a bit twitchy a the best of times, How wide are the wheel on the white beetle?
I thought some had installed hydraulic I meant
All good, the wheels on the white one are 17x7.5”
i don’t see a lift?
Has anyone ever been able to find a new dashboard for a 73 and up super
Dalton Leonard no one makes new stock padded ones, Jbugs was selling fibreglass copies for a while but have I haven’t seen them on the website for a while.
BoostedVW thanks for the info didn’t want to waste money on a cover if anywhere made a new
Dalton Leonard unfortunately getting originals restored is the only way at this stage, not a cheap process but modern vinyls last much longer than originals.
Thanks for the video. I do have a question/comment. The bezel/collar around the vent knobs that you removed very easily with the circlip pliers were exactly the same looking in my ‘73 SB, but unfortunately didn’t come out the same way. I damaged them in my attempt to unscrew off that way (live and learn I guess). It wasn’t until much later down the process of removing the dash that I saw that there are two metal tabs on the inside above where the knobs are with two screws that have to be removed. Then and only then was I able to push the knobs thru and finish removing the dash. Is that normal for this model or was there some aftermarket mod done? It doesn’t seem like it’s aftermarket.
I saw your pics on the Samba, that’s pretty common, the knob bezels have a very fine plastic thread which people often damage so just glue them back in place.
@@BoostedVW
Thanks, I appreciate your reply. However, mine were damaged beyond repair. So I have to go a different route.
@@gerarda6395 no problem, people do all sorts of horrors to keep these cars going for the next owner to sort out.
@@BoostedVW
No kidding! This is my first VW ever, and my first time working on a car ever, so definitely a steeper learning curve than most, but I’m definitely enjoy! I do have a few more questions, hopefully when you have time I can pick your brain, if you don’t mind.
@@gerarda6395 yep of course
