How to create an old world look using the ragging technique with chalk paint

- In this video I made over a stunning crested armoire. I wanted to give it an old world look and decided to use the ragging technique for this.
Since the armoire was in pretty bad condition, it needed a lot of repair work. I removed all the damaged veneer, using a heat gun.
I applied gold leaf on all the trimwork and also applied some gold lief with the use of a stencil.
This video is part of the #uniqueantiquechallenge, a furniture flipping challenge, hosted by The Crafty Creech DIY's and Furniture Flips and cohosted by First Rain Furniture.
You can find the complete playlist with videos of all the other participants here: • Unique Antique Challen...
For this piece I used the follwing products from the Annie Sloan range:
- French Linen
- Countrey Grey
- Graphite
- Duck Egg Blue
- Old White
- Gold Size
- Gold Leaf
- Clear Wax
- Black Wax
Let me know what you think of the result!

Oh wow!!! What an amazing result!! Just incredible!! You are so talented and inspirational, and immaculate performer. Love all your work❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
That's so sweet of you! Thank you so much for your nice words. 🥰🥰🥰
Just INCREDIBLE!!!! You make it look so EASY, but in reality, it takes quite a bit of time to "MASTER" this technique, I would think. Personally, I think I would have used Silver Flakes instead of the Gold.
Thank you so much! ❤️ The nice thing about chalk paint is, that it doesn't matter when you make a mistake. You can always paint over it. And this technique actually is really forgiving. So, you can hardly make any mistake at all. 😉 I don't know why I always choose gold over silver. But silver definitely is nice combined with blue too! 💙
Absolutely stunning, it’s so beautiful!! Wow!! What an incredible piece of furniture you have created!! I so hope that you are very proud of everything that you did 😊💕 It is honestly just such a special piece of art!

hello Leen!!! im sooo happy you have joined this challenge!!! wow that is a massive piece!!! ohhhh that is such a daunting task sometimes removing the veneer, ughhh especially in the hard to reach areas like those curves on the front! i can see why you are exhausted!thank goodness for our hubbies.. i need mine to help me often.. especially with moving things or making cuts with the big saw! i think it was definately a wise choice to work on it in pieces , it is gigantic! All of these beatiful details on this piece are so wonderful. I have to say Leen your voice is so beautiful and soothing, i am really enjoying listening to you narrate. I have never done the ragging technique! i am so blown away by how beautiful it looks. and you make it look effortless great advice on stepping back to check your work to see if you are pleased with it! The details really pop with the ragging technique on the ornate piece on the top! i love how you explained the gold leafing... i have always taken the sheet off of the tissue paper but this way (leaving it on the tissue paper) makes much more sense to me! the gold...wow... ohh my goodness wow! And the floral surprise when the drawers open is just the cherry on top! Your armoir is a SHOW STOPPER and i agree its so worth it!...Jaw dropping gorgeous! thank you sooooo much Leen for joining this challenge
Oh my God, Krystal... Those words of yours mean so much to me. ❤️ You got me all teared up right here. 🥺

Groet Lucienne🖐
Hi Lucienne! Bedankt voor je berichtje. ❤️ Kacha is inderdaad mijn muze. 😉 Zij maakt echt prachtige dingen! Amy Howard moet ik even opzoeken. 😍😍
New subscriber. 😁
Hi Bonny, welcome to my channel! ❤️❤️❤️
wunderschön
Danke sehr...!!
One hundred hours! It definitely looks like you spent that much time on this amazing china cabinet.
🙈🙈 Oh my gosh... It was soooo much work! But fortunately I love making over furniture, so it never really felt like work! 🥰
thank you for this informative video! great job. I understand that this glazing technique works well with the types of furniture that have frames, curves, engravings etc. where the glaze stays after wiping, but what if I need to glase a simple painted stool that doesn't have those? Its very basic stool, just legs and the top, and I wonder what stays and where when I cover it with the glaze and wipe afterwards. I painted it in nice yellow, but wanted to add some used antique look with dark edges and some dark patina around the joints. But the issue is that using your technique the glaze at the edges, where I do want it to stay, will most probaly get wiped off. What do you think I shall do to make it look like a want? And would the whole thing work if I use watered down dark acrylic paint over the main layer of paint, also acrylic? thank you!
😱😃😘beautiful!! You’re soooOo talented. ❤what u did gold leafing flowers on the sides of the draws..looked amazing looking😀
Thank you so, so, so much for your kind and supportive words! 😍🥰❤️
Wet towel leave overnight- it’s easier
Thanks! 👍
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL! Thank you. Do you have a website?
Thank you so much! I don't have a website. Sorry! 😊😊
If laquer is not available, can we use clear matt varnish instead as paint protection ??
Will varnish darken the paint color also as wax does ???
Yes, you can use matt varnish and it will darken the colour a little bit. 😊 Good luck with your project!
Thanks a lot
