GM tried to make badged engineered version of the Corvette with the Pontiac Banshee which sadly didn't come into fruition. They succeeded however with the Cadillac XLR, the only badged engineered offspring of the Chevrolet Corvette that went into production.
When John DeLorean was in charge of Pontiac in 1967, he begged and pleaded to GM executives to grant Pontiac a Corvette-based model.
