      They really are getting cheap these days. I've seen a few for under 15k. No one wants them because of the Northstar engine and no manual transmission.

    • @TwiggyPants
      @TwiggyPants Рік тому +2

      @@ziptiejedi5658 that's silly I love the Northstar and transmissions are replaceable. If you're gonna spend that much money anyways and are looking for a Manual transmission what's a extra five grand? I think people are just taters to be honest.

    I owned (yes, past tense) 2 XLR's (one for my wife and one for me). Build quality was BETTER than Mercedes (I owned...again, past tense) 4 Benz' (an E320, E500, & 2 SL500's). The XLR was faster than the SL, had much more unique and impressive exterior styling, and more technologically advanced than most cars at that time. Came standard with adaptive Cruise Control and headlights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, rear parking sensors. Nearly trouble-free, very fun and very comfortable cars! Turned a lot of heads! My '07 was a Platinum model, Liquid Amethyst --- only 38 produced, and really a beautiful car! My wife LOVED hers, and still would love to have another! Unfortunately, when Cadillac/GM stopped making parts I sold them because I didn't want to own two expensive paper-weights! You can't even replace a headlight! So, I sold them and bought a beautiful C7 Z51-3LT. Still, it isn't as rare as the XLR, which seriously were among the best cars I've ever owned. Stupid Cadillac/GM for ruining a great car!

      I actually think on paper it’s quite unimpressive. The base XLR had only 320 hp, 310 torque, with a very meh interior for $86,000msrp?? I’ll compare it to a pretty middle class car. A 2009 Acura TL made 305 hp. And hit 60 an entire 0.7 seconds quicker. With a nicer interior, better gas mileage, more practical, more reliable, better safety rating. I may be incorrect on this one but I believe the TL even held about the same lateral G’s as the XLR. For almost half the price. Just doesn’t seem like a very impressive offer. I love the way it looks but it’s extremely overpriced

    • @VCGGBPS2
      @VCGGBPS2 Рік тому

      That car isn't even the same type. The TL is more comparable to a CTS/STS even the DTS as those are sedans.

    I have a 2004 XLR Base and suspect that the one featured in this video is newer than mine, or a higher trim level, or it has some aftermarket mods. There are lots of cosmetic differences - the wheels, the mesh grill, the exhaust treatment, body badging, the slick body color-matching engine cover...all different from my 2004. But who cares? These are fun cars with ridiculous torque that will make you laugh out loud when you punch the pedal. Cadillac charged so much for them that relatively few were sold, which is why you rarely see one. Thanks Joe for a great video!

I was a nerdy young kid who didn't know much about cars at all at that point, but I do remember thinking man, that car just LOOKS expensive. GM tried to make badged engineered version of the Corvette with the Pontiac Banshee which sadly didn't come into fruition. They succeeded however with the Cadillac XLR, the only badged engineered offspring of the Chevrolet Corvette that went into production.

      When John DeLorean was in charge of Pontiac in 1967, he begged and pleaded to GM executives to grant Pontiac a Corvette-based model. GM executives refused because they felt the sales of the Banshee would affect the Chevrolet Corvette. So, GM had Chevrolet offered the Camaro F-body to Pontiac to create the Firebird. The Banshee would have been equipped with the 455 Super Duty Ram-Air V-8 while the Corvette was equipped with the 454 Cowl Induction LS6 V-8 Buick and Oldsmobile were supposed to have versions of the Corvette as well, but GM did not allow it

    It'll be great if you could get permission from the owner to do a more in detail review. I think you are falling a bit short on that. You are really good but I think it could be great if you could make longer videos were you go more in depth. Don't get me wrong the channel content is good it just could get better. You are right on point with the style and the narrative, also the camera man is really good. I know is not easy sometimes to get permission from the owners to drive this cars or be able to show the interiors... especially when you are starting a channel I understand that. Hopefully in the near future you can get in touch with owners and get to do so. That way we don't get the feeling that you are just walking into random cars and start doing a revew

    • @RaitisRides
      @RaitisRides  6 років тому +2

      jorge irizarry I appreciate and value your feedback. I plan on moving the channel in that direction. As a point of reference my “quickie reviews” are just that. Shorter reviews of cars. I do have the more in-depth reviews that includes things like interior, startup and/or drive. The cars I do at events are unscripted, on the fly various vehicles I think my viewers would like to see. The advantage, I can bring all kinds of cars to the channel, it’s ver natural unscripted. Disadvantages are things like owners aren’t always around, they just don’t want that etc... I will promise to do my best to get more access. Please stay tuned because, this whole thing has one way to go and that’s up!👍🏻👍🏻

    The grille in this car is from a V or aftermarket at $662. The wheels are Not XLR. The engine paint is nice but Not stock, someone had it painted. Mine cost $82,000 and had 320 hp. The V had 442 hp and cost about $110,000. Big money for less power than the Corvette. Luxury sports car, no racer. Unbelievable features like radar if you're on Cruise and someone cuts in. It will back you off automatically. Waay too much electronic crap from doors that are electric and you can get locked in or out if the battery quits. But it all seems to work OK. It's very nice for a great looking luxury cruiser that originally cost too much but doesn't now. The standard grille was louvers and this mesh grille is much better looking but unobtainable from Cadillac as are most parts. Tail light lens costs a couple grand on the internet now. Not kidding.

      Once you install the cylinder head stud kit from Northstar Performance ($650 direct), it becomes one of the most reliable engines ever, seriously. Some people say you'd be better installing an LS engine, but with this upgrade you'll save yourself the hassle of reprogramming the engine computer, replacing the mounts, and the often boring legal and insurances derived from intalling a new block. northstarperformance.com/

    No manual transmission. If it weren't for that I might consider it, even with the northshit. Despite the new edge styling this car is %100 marketed to old men who wanna cruise.

    I don't know why the put so much into this car, and then went cheap when designing the engine. Bean counters, I suppose. They should just have bored and stroked the 'vette engine, put a Caddy label on it, and be done. Would have worked.
