Thank you for talking about these!Near our friends house, way out in the woods, there's a cornfield lined with very old oaks (100+ year old] and that's the place where I can find them. They can easily be missed because they blend in with the huge oak roots and the color scheme of the surrounding area. So far, mine are also always bug-free!
I received Sami Tallberg's "Wild Herb" cookbook in the mail today. Absolutely amazing! The photography is just incredible. Thank you for recommending it.
Great video, Dr. Bergo! Last week I may have found a few of these on an oak ridge leading into a swamp (scouting, right?) But at 1st I'd assumed they were leccinum variicolor. But no birch...? Perhaps they were these. They were really really dense. Like if you chucked one at a friends head it would explode on impact and probably shock them. Not that I'd ever do such a thing 😆 I'll certainly go back now and look. God willing I'll finally find some trumpets I know grow nearby but almost always elude me. Happy hunting my friend!
I always look for trumpets near mossy areas, especially mossy slopes on the side of trails. Leccinum are easy to separate from these as BVB never have the scabers on their stalk. Also, chef, not Dr. 😉.
I appreciate that. I just try to share stuff I find helpful or interesting. If people find it, great. Tbh I don’t know how I could keep up on all the platforms if it was bigger.
I saw some of these and thought 'ooo that looks dangerous' 😂🎉 thank you for sharing

Cool! I can't wait to try!
Yes! One of the most tasty mushrooms you can have. Sometimes they give off a bit sour taste.

To you too. Yeah these are dense like rocks when you. Good luck with the trumpets I haven’t had much luck this year it’s been so dry.
You should really have more followers, Alan.
