For sure, it's like Rolex or Lexus, it costs more because it costs more to make. If Meccano started remaking the old parts again, out of metal, I guarantee they would sell.
These small mechanism models are good fun to build. If you look at some of the old Meccano manuals from the 50s there are a couple of gears and mechanisms sets that have quite a few like this. I've also done a build designed by Ricky Meccano - the spider crane one on my channel. Unfortunately Ricky died about 12 months ago.
A lot of fun to build! I'll be doing more of these. Maybe I'll pull up one of those 50's .pdfs and see what I can find. Been flipping through a 70's mechanisms booklet from France that looks promising. In need of more brass gears.
That's unfortunate. I was wondering why I couldn't find any of Ricky's videos. Rest in Peace Ricky Mekano. May these videos serve as a remembrance of your love of Meccano.
Are there any other Meccano compatible sets available in your location? For example in India we have #zephyrMechanix and #toykraft who makes some sets and they are ok. But i doubt any company is going to build the brass parts
I've never heard of those two brands. Are they manufactured in India? I come across a grip of A.C. Gilbert Erector Sets, followed by Meccano, and Steel Tec in that order. The A.C. Gilbert are pretty well compatible, same hole spacing, similar size axles, rods, and screws. I have a TON of those ua-cam.com/video/Vo3POY2Yuzo/v-deo.html I'm actually planning on building a large garage/diorama based on your suggestion and I'll be using mostly the A.C. Gilbert. Should be a substantial build.
I hope they step it up! We're seeing an incredible toy just eroding right in front of our faces. Sign of the times when metal is too expensive to produce. I think we're going to get their attention. I'll be doing a video entitled 'Spin Master' as a pun in hopes of catching some corporate attention. It will just be each model I've built, spinning in a 360.
As a 74 year old man who loves meccano, I appreciate your efforts to keep this incredible mechanical learning system for want of a better word alive. Unfortunately today’s kids are lego kids and can’t see many appreciating the virtues of meccano. My fear is once us old farts die out there will only be a few young people like you to carry on the hobby. Thanks for your efforts, keep it up.
Listen up Spinmaster. There is no better way for kids to learn engineering than classic Meccano.

👍🏼
I hope #spinmaster listens to this and dose whatever is required to revive this hobby. Without their support, Meccano has no future.

Yeah, good thing it's only a 3v motor!
