They aren't made of pine actually; I believe they're made from maple. It's definitely a hardwood.

Yes, they are made of maple. Pine is porous and lightweight, splits easily, inexpensive, doesn't stain evenly. Maple is a hard wood that is very durable, stains evenly, heavier, and lasts for decades. Lots of old furniture was made of maple just for this reason.

If they are just dusty, I use the soft brush attachment on the vacuum and just lightly brush over them to remove. It's very effective!

There is an excellent video on Utube that describes not only the history of the origin of the company, but the process of making the baskets. From the felling of the maple trees near Hartsville, Ohio to the final assembly. It should be easy to find.

I use gentle pressure from an air compressor. Blows dust from all crevices with little effort.
