- These three wild squirrels refused to leave their new owners. Peanut, Drax and Nyka were rescued as babies and nursed back to heath by amazing animal lovers. But when time to be released came around, they just wouldn't go. So now they have to learn to share their life with humans. And it's not always easy.

I had a stranded baby squirrel for 24 hours before taking him to a local rehabber. He stole my heart. There were tears handing him over.

Squirrels really are very physically cute, probably very pleasing to hold, etc. It's a pleasure to see them SLOW DOWN, snuggle with their caregivers/friends. It's the frenetic nature with which they are usually seen and observed in the wild that has made any kind of fantasy of caregiving or cohabitation a little abstract. I read in a history book that squirrels were migrated to the united states by the british ? They used them as pets during the civil war too.. reminds me of pet hamsters

Why would anyone want to get released with all the love you have.
It's a tough decision, isn't it? These babies have found a special place in our hearts. Sometimes that bond is too strong to let go. However, squirrels raised by humans do not have survival skills, and will die in the wild. Finding the balance between love and their natural habitat is a journey in itself. 🌿❤️🐿️

They can live a long time in captivity for a small animal like 20 years!!! Lucky ppl....but for sure only in these cases where they cant survive in the wild....they shouldn't be pets

PROBABLY in many of those cases the mother rejected them due to illness...humans could learn from that....in a squirrels case the MOTHER could absolutely not afford to care for a sick baby not in TIME or MONEY in our world or in the ADDED loss of attention to the other babies.... how many families do you KNOW who with a sick kid are devastated or the HEALTH care SYSTEM is devastated by care to a sick kid that will never breed or should never breed... it's probably wild lives MOST effective health care practice and without it we probably wouldn't have the tools to exist either

Sweet babies and wonderful pet parents. But I must say no am really sick of state licensed rehab groups preferring to euthanize animal just because they are full. That is NO reason to kill an animal.
It's truly disheartening when state-licensed rehab groups face such difficult decisions due to limited resources. Every life is precious, and it's tough when space constraints lead to such outcomes. Hopefully, with more support and awareness, we can find better solutions for these animals in need. 🐿️💔
