Question, why do you need to wire in the one that came from pin 16? Why would the fan come on when the car is off? Would it work do just put a ground on it instead?
+will martens A ground would not work, you need constant 12 volt while the car is on, if you use the distribution block 12v it will be constant whether the car is on or off so it would drain your battery running that cable. i use the green wire in the diag port because you will only be getting constant power through it when your car is on. the fan could be off when the car is off but the wire could still be hot if you connect it the wrong way so it would drain the battery.
In this build i actually didnt do a manual switch, this E36 has been long gone but i am doing this same mod in the new E36 and will post a video Soon enough!
it comes on when the aux fan switches to the High setting which is when the car gets hotter than operating temp. the Aux fan comes on at low speed when i turn the car on but the electric fan doesnt turn on until the aux goes into high speed.
I would recommend, actually anyone that owns a e36 would recommend getting rid of it, its a ticking time bomb and WILL blow one day. mine did and took my radiator out with it. You should also take a look at your waterpump, if its an oem orange plastic impeller, then change it to a metal impeller because thats also a ticking time bomb right there. and its just a matter of time.
Did this wiring ever work properly? seems like the video was cut short... and what did you connect to the harness that came with the fan you showed?? you never showed that part
I didnt really show in detail how i did it as it was one of my first videos on youtube. i cut the harness the fan came with and connected the positive wire to terminal 30 on the relay, and the negative wire form the fan to the ground next to the A/C dryer.
I am not entirely sure and my Bentley Manual isnt anywhere near by, what i do k now is that it is a 12v wire which only turns on once the key is in the On Position.
The best video on youtube for e36 electric fan easy to understand step by step excellent thank you you made this job really easy thanks
This guide helps me soo much. I will share it to people who also want to do this, It's a great visual guide. Better than picture guides
Great job Bro.. great detail, keep it up

isnt black and green the low side temp? i am pretty sure the black and white is the high side..
you never mentioned where and how you mounted you in car switch ?? could you do a video covering that

Gripless Garage so with this wiring the fan comes on automatically when the aux fan turns on?? and what was the CFM?

What did you use to connect the wire to the relay it's self??
I used female wiring connectors to attatched to the relay terminals. i then heat shrunk it so water doesnt corode them.
so should I get rid of my fan clutch

yes you should. i snapped on of my fan blades and now its off balance

I'll try this with my spal fan, instead of buying the $50 basic wiring kit.. Thanks for the info man
This video was perfect.... I did mine just like this.. Flawless victory.. Thanks
Where is the Relay groud?
What kind of signal is terminal 16 in the diagnostic conection?

Couldn't you just connected to the starter ?
I have a new water pump I installed
