Grading today is all about making a profit. Back in the 90s it was about authenticating the cards and deciphering their condition. As long as greed continues to capitalize the reason to grade or not we will never slow down submitting cards. The hobby is all about flipping and less about collecting these days.
That isn't true at all. There were still a ton of dealers. In fact, you could argue that there were even more. Hence why there were so many cards made. Grading wasn't really a thing, but card shops were everywhere. Why not try to make money on cards? I'd much rather do that then work in a factory.
Come back in 10 years, let's see where we're at. My bet is we're laughing at the junk parallels and the over-grading of everything from the early 2020s.
It’s already a huge problem at most large shows. I have seen 100’s of the same Luis Robert Bowman Chrome 1st in PSA 10 at the same dealer and the guy wouldn’t go below $50 each because he has way too much invested in the grading and was hoping buyers were stuck in 2020. He had tons of other of the same cards of Trae, Acuna, Soto and so many others that used to be worth a lot more.

Yep, exactly my thoughts as well. Ultra modern collectors are morons, its amazing how long it is taking for so many of them to understand they are just throwing away their money with how much garbage gets graded.
That isn’t remotely true. I’ve been using a group submitter for over 3 years and never once had an issue. It cost me less money to grade the cards going through a group submitter and shipping is cheaper
Bro I was thinking about that I submit my cards with my local card shop and I always seem to get back like 9.5 or nines I never get tens maybe once or twice on a lower end card I will get the tens but higher cards that I submit always 9.5 or less so I always thought with my card shop really swap out my tins for their lower graded cards

I submitted an order to PSA at the Toronto Expo in November and the cards JUST got graded like a week ago. I'll be lucky to get them back by the next Toronto Expo in April. I wouldn't use them ever again.
I’ve sent 330 off to be graded since January 1, and I’ve just set aside another 200+ to go as well. A factor that should be considered: Quality. You know the saying, "Good, fast, cheap. Pick two." I wonder if PSA grading 1.2 million cards in a month while speeding up turnaround might result in hurried evaluations. Undeserved 10's for some brand new cards? Not enough scrutiny of vintage cards? I don't claim these things, it's just a question. A million-plus cards in a month is nuts.
How is it not junk slab ? When the card inside graded anything less than a 10 and sometimes even that, doesn't cover the cost to grade. Anytime the card graded cost less than the price to grade its a junk slab. I know you got a ton if them but still
Excited for Topps UFC. Panini was good at the beginning of 2023, but towards the end it was a disaster. The new cards look great and buying boxes from Topps was easier than Panini Direct. Also a slightly more affordable box than Prizm nothing too major. An entire year of collecting every Panini set and I’m waiting on 4 auto redemptions and didn’t get a single on card auto it was all stickers. Hopefully Topps does a better job so I’m excited overall.
@@angelou1 peopled figured out how to open up the slabs and switch them out. So basically, CGC lost ALL accountability. They have no idea how many or how long it's been going on.
A lot of the PSA demand is from the TCG market right now. There seems to be enough raw product plus enough demand to get those TCG cards into PSA slabs. Meanwhile, over on the sports card side, a lot of years / sets / players have maybe hit their temporary ceiling and the yearning to grade those cards is drying up. Specific (Year + Set + Player) situations where there are over 10,000 slabs graded total….. might not see another 500… 200… even 100 new slabs over the next year. A lot of high-volume graded cards are coming off their peak waves and not a lot of years / sets / players are jumping in to take their place. Basically the tsunami surge is trying to be filled by a lot of little waves that don’t pack the same sustained energy. And when there’s gaps for PSA to fill/grade, TCGs are only too happy to take sports cards’ places.
PSA is also taking the profit that comes with 1M slabs a month for the last year or two and throwing that back into efficiency steps here & there and we’re seeing the benefits of that. The old, rare feeling of ‘this problem could be fixed IF a company threw money at fixing it’, but manifested for real !
Got my cards back today from PSA, I’m not a noob, grading was horrible and one card scratched. Had 4 cards in the past two months scratched by PSA. No I don’t care they have a long process to file for compensation! It shouldn’t happen! And why are the grades so inconsistent over the past 3 - 6 months especially? Well numbers don’t lie.
What are your thoughts on new grading companies like TAG? The report you get back with that is just amazing and such a huge difference between them and companies like PSA where people question how legit the grade is. Do you see companies like TAG growing and possibly overtaking the big guys?

Fanatics runs everything into the ground and has killed the affordable apparel market by having a monopoly on licensed apparel. $50 T shirts, $100 sweatshirts $200 replica jerseys. Once Fanatics gets all of the licenses for all of the major sports they will Jack up the price as collectors will not have any other options. At least with jerseys they have knock off China jerseys.
@@carolinatarheels7903 of course I know that Jack wagon. Have you seen the price of Panini hobby boxes versus Fanatics hobby boxes? How about retail for Panini where you can’t even pull most of the hits. Sit down before you embarrass yourself

Once Fanatics takes over everything licensed (like they do for apparel) they will have a monopoly over the card market as collectors will have nowhere else to get their fix. Why do you use Doug? He doesn’t like anything Topps , no baseball and acts like getting a redemption card of a signed jersey is bad but loves panini with there redemptions and points.
Agree
Ah yes, people who make lively hoods on trying to overinflate the collectible card markets, trying to convince us their cards they paid 100 dollars for are actually worth 1,000. This is like the idiots trying to tell us the mass produced Disney VHS that sell for 16 dollars on amazon are actually worth thousands. Obvious conflict of interest here.
What is the first thing that comes to mind when people thing about grading cards-? Money! That’s all it’s about
Who is they?
This is the only industry where you have to take at least 10% less than what your card is worth - what a shitty hobby.
The old set looked more inviting and cool, this set looks boring and cold
Looking for advice from fellow sports card investors!
I PC burrow and I have a Joe burrow Downtown 2021 PSA 10. I don’t have any Patrick mahomes rookie cards. Would it be fair to try and use my Burrow for Trade value towards a Patrick mahomes PSA 10?
I’m in it for the long term when it comes to burrow or mahomes!
Mahomes not even a 2nd thought. He already cemented in H.O.F. 2 mvp 2 rings passing records fans liquidity what more can you ask for
PSA is so much worse than SGC but people are followers and it
Panini is only left with Soccer!! WTF
I can’t believe I’m saying this but i missed Doug 😅
Enjoy
People say junk slab era are just people who like complaining and not enjoying the hobby
@brendenconner9686 wargreymon x7 moonlight 0:04
what percentage of collectors have say 200-300+ slabs?
yea I’m not enjoying the hobby it’s not about the Junk slabs it’s overpriced wax in general then U throw in people’s greed for single prices it’s crazy!!!!!
@@fliplife67Upper Deck hockey went from $120 per box to $300 per box because Connor Bedard's Young Guns is in Series 2. It's a slap in the face to collectors.
@@gmen3066 That’s crazy!!!! and that Connor Bedard YG base is probably going to start it least 1000 plus.
PSA doesn't make the hobby better. the fact they have little transparency and ugly ass slabs. They need to come back to earth in the after market.
Just an overhyped junk plastic industry..what started as something serious for true collectors/traders to worship and preservate their precious memorabilia / value, turned into some junk contest of a money seeking horde..oh we gotta grade 100000000000 pokemon / yugioh cards? lol
stuff gets rushed through some "grading" system, sometimes you get an 8, sometimes for the same item a 9 or 10..grading is like taking a self-covid test..you need 2-3 attempts to get the right result..
KEEP YOUR CARDS RAW ... I HATE SLABS.. waste of money and makes card look so ugly!
Perfect
How do not mention Allen. Just led the league in tds and yards and broke records
BGS Slabs have always bothered me from a Size Perspective.
Someone just needs to hurry up and make AI app. You could grade without slabs and inaccurate pop counts.
Grading base cards and retail stuff is silly , real collectors don’t buy that stuff
Pushing that many cards thru in that period of time... There is going to be so many poorly graded cards its not even funny. The Grading Company is laughing all the way to the BANK.
Grading is overrated, I’ll take a raw card that’s cheaper and good to great shape instead of spending more on a grade, waste of money
Cost money byt for beginners all should get one done such a cool fun experience on top unless you got someone on fire or a crazy numbered or 1/1 raw cards won't fetch nearrrrrrrr anything you wanna flip hold or have trouble value pray spread smoke cross ya fingers whatever you beelive get that gm mt 10 and BALLLLING!
YES, I'M THE 309TH.
Hurts got hurt!
How is Arena Club for grading
Network effects says PSA is the only grading company worth buying or selling
Psa!!!!
GMA will over take Beckett soon.
No respect for Dak when he mentioned rising QB cards.
anyone have the 10% off BWC code?
Yeah it’s code SCI

I’ll never understand why Doug is such a Panini fanboy? Panini runs everything into the ground and doesn’t care about customers. Panini points are the biggest rip off in the hobby
You do know Fanatics own Topps right?
@@carolinatarheels7903 don’t even get me started on Panini points instead of actual hits or their BS Redemptions that literally take years upon years
@@ryanra44 obviously you didn't read and comprehend. Once Fanatics takes over everything licensed (like they do for apparel) they will have a monopoly over the card market as collectors will have nowhere else to get their fix. Once Panini is out of the picture Fanatics will raise prices on everything. Panini's prices are so high now because people are still living on 2020 prices. No one cares about baseball, it's all about football cards and with Panini having the exclusive collectors are forced to buy it at whatever cost to get their fix.
@@carolinatarheels7903 your logic makes ZERO sense. Fanatics could easily match Panini’s outrageous pricing right now, yet they don’t. Explain that?
The only cards that should be slabbed in my opinion are # cards or auto cards that’s it everything else raw dogged
Question and please look up. World Cup is coming up. Jude Bellingham. Next Renaldo or Messi. They call him the “Wonder Boy” for a reason
Catarina Macario too if her knee heals up
This channel pushing PSA is getting to ridiculous levels...If he believes it, great, if he's getting something on the back end for it then that's pretty gross. I don't know the answer but out in the real world PSA is copping a belting. And half of those PSA submissions from January are probably sitting at Cards HQ 🤣
I'm a 58 yr old that collected as a kid. I buy cards when I see them at garage sales. Well, recently, I bought about 1.5 million cards from a former dealer. They are mostly junk wax. When I stopped collecting, there was no such thing as grading. I'm learning about the hobby all over. I guess I'm going to become a card dealer on the side. Lol.
