I've travelled from Condobolin to Kiama a number of times and I've found the Xplorer trip very pleasant. It does generally run on time. I find the most pleasant stretch of the trip that from Bathurst to Lithgow - very attractive and scenic, with an added interest of watching how the rail line has evolved in a number of places. At on stage you can see two older track alignments, and getting in towards Lithgow, and older viaduct. My wife and I are planning to do the combined bus/train trip sometime in the not too far distant future.
I have a cast iron signal post spike that i nicked from there in the 90s. I was staying at the barracks there in Ivanhoe. Up home signal. It had just been replaced.
@@Joe-jd4pn it’s all good mate, I don’t have a problem with it. Just wanted you to know words can cause problems legally. Did you do said item up or ensure the item is displayed with pride ?
'We have one sandwich'!! Perhaps there is a source of sandwich in Broken Hill. I guess its part of the guileless charm of NSW Rail! I did have a fabulous trip on this service from Sydney regardless of the amateurish procedures. I remember it being much quieter than this video.
I hate that coach service, seats give me no end of back trouble, over the past couple of years moves have been made to pressure the NSW TrainLink people to introduce an extra service to no avail. This train is "under promoted" as per its tourist potential and thus create additional loading and encourage a second service. Many people, who don't like the coach, are put off spending a week in Broken Hill, or people like myself who need to get to Menindee. Great video, a few notable places missed along the way but the train was probably going too fast to include them.
It was better by Rail for sure. The coach I had from Dubbo seemed new and was very comfortable. I wanted to showcase more, but some small places come up to quickly to be ready to record.
What is so wrong with this country, oh lets travel 5 kmh out of parkes and almost stop (FOR WHAT REASON??) like seriously, we in the dark ages when it comes to fkn public transport :(

Hope you and your wife had a pleasant trip of the Bus and train trip..
Darnick really is a 'you blink you miss' station.
Sure is. I hope to one day visit it by road.
Too far away from me, I got Wondabyne as a substitute, only an hour away from me.
Definitely something I could put on in the background while studying! 😎
Ivanhoe, a place where the Indian Pacific once stopped. Only 2.5hrs north of Balranald and a great place to get old railway track memorabilia

First class was fully booked out.
Love those views of Broken Hill. South Australia is totally jealous.
Haha, SA has some great views too! :D
I dont mind travelling on the Explorers, however the squeaking bogies really start to grind after a while. surely its an easy maintenance fix?
I think it's the way of the padding and that.
Once a week?! Lunacy😂
Do the right thing and run it daily right through to Adelaide. It'd work wonderfully well
Upgrade the line first

Piss poor coaches for sure
The current buses for such long distances are nightmarish. Take a look at TransWA's long distance coaches .. better than a plane.
Where was menindee lakes..disappointing there😢
Sorry buddy, I missed it. I plan to revisit the area one day for railfanning. So I'll do my best to get it with a train then! 😀
