Mercedes uses their S-class (a world-class luxury benchmark this side of a Rolls-Royce) as an inspiration for their sedans. Therefore, a less expensive E-class or even the compact C-class feels much more upscale than its competitors; it's a scaled-down version of a world class vehicle. BMW hilariously uses their 3-series as their benchmark for their sedans. In essence, a 5-er & 7-er are essentially scaled-up versions of the 3 series. And while you can easily scale down a luxury car, you can't simply do the same with a sports-oriented sedan and keep the nimble sporting intentions. And don't even think for a second BMW can out-luxury Mercedes. This is why I
Perhaps people prefer sport before luxury. If you want a very luxurious vehicle, go for Mercedes (non-AMG) if you want a very sporty car, go for BMW, if you want the best of both...then get an Audi.
Bora Markovic so true- I have the f30 335i with the m sport, halos and xenon lights and it looks like a different car next to a base 3 series.. I just got it towed for a drivetrain malfunction by the way, so I might end up trading it in for a C400. I have to say that the only thing I'll miss about BMW is their manual transmission
Temporarily had the 2015 E400 4G a ticket as a rental car and it was absolutely unbelievably fantastic. Not a Mercedes fan at all but hooked on it now! In Sport+ it became a rocket with the best handling I ever felt. Highly recommend it!
I owe a Mecerdes C Class Station. A 220 CDI, 2017. A very nice, comfortable an fuel efficent car. Since 2017 i drove 40 000 km (i don´t know miles). And, except Service ...nothing!
For those that don't like the way the LCD is mounted, I believe that someone at Mercedes stated that they designed like that to make it easier to upgrade/ replace. While I'm not the biggest fan of the placement either, if it means I can get a higher resolution screen with a better processor as they become available, I'm all for it.
I seriously doubt Mercedes would offer upgrades or replacements to the COMAND unit. They upgrade it with each new model in order to entice you to buy a new car!
It's up there so you can see it without taking your eyes off the road. Considering how difficult that whole system is to use, it really needs to be where it is.
its funny how people talk about benz like they own them. they go to forums and things and form their opinions, well you have to take those things with a grain of salt because you only post those kinda things when you have problems, you never see forums praising them or how great they are because their suppose to great, so you always find the complaints first. i own a used 98 brought a few years back and it didnt cost nearly as much as people say it should cost to maintain. its a car parts go bad but as not as bad as people my car has never needed to stay in the shop for anything i had to replace a few parts but they were really cheap given that the internet is so helpful and now the car is back in my mothers hands with 150k miles on it so i brought a c250 2013 and so far so good, and where i live i see old benz 2007 and older. -from an actual owner
jurrell hudson I bought my first in 1988, it's a 420 SEL, it still runs beautifully. Bought a ML 350 in 2010, still runs beautifully. Bought a S-Class in 2014, still runs beautifully. Now I bought the 2015 C 300 for my son and he loves it. I have never had any issue with any Mercedes vehicle. When I owned several BMW they were uncomfortable and always had issues. People should own one before they talk. -From a fellow Benz owner
I like Mercedes' new design language, they needed to change and it's for the better. The only thing I can't stand are those LCD screens that stick out on top of the dash. It just doesn't look good, I wish they could disappear just like in Audi's. Can't wait for the AMG version.
I like how in US they give you the 240hp engine as stock, give you leather, leds and whatnot all at the lower price, while in EU you get halogen lamps, 180hp engine, and cloth seats for more money that US base model.
At 8 mintues, the most honest moment and he smiles cause he knows it out of his mouth the entire video ("You can never have enough power, that's something that is always correct") yup
Little tidbit -- Crystal Mountain, WA is near Mt. Rainier. (Famous ski resort) About one hour and half southeast of Seattle. Interesting that Mercedes is doing a press launch here.
Hehe, the SI dial in my Subaru STI gives me more hp. Boost goes from 4 PSI in intelligent mode to 19 in S#. Nowhere as luxurious as this thing though but about the same price. Let people buy it, let it depreciate for 3 years then I might try it :)
IMO I love the new design language that MB is doing with the GLA , The S-Class and this new C-Class. I under stand that all luxury brands around the world have all the lastest tech and all that(some of which you can get on even an entry level car too), so I love Mercedes and Cadillac for upping the anti on the design front giving people a car that you can love for the design instead of just the nameplate! ( because BMW as gotten really conservative lately!)
The way I see it is this is pretty much what Audi is doing very good looking, very fast but not much of a drivers car. Sad to say not much drivers cars being made today in this segment. Also all that tech is great and all but just by looking at it it's easy to see it will depreciate very fast like all Mercs. Hopefully AMG will be good though
This new C Class looks to be a vast improvement over the previous model - inside and out. Me likey mucho but don't think I'd buy one because of the high cost to maintain. But for those that are brand loyal or keeping up with the Jones, that should already be a part of their decision making checklist.
Its bigger, on the inside by a lot, has more features, more options in the base model, has features you cant find in C class, bigger boot, little bit better ride. No E class is not pointless.
Bora Markovic what features does that the E class has that this don't. I mean can you write and pinch to zoom with a remote in the E class......no but this can. Is this more elegant and better looking than the E class, you can say yes.
very nice review, cant wait till this officially comes out and you guys get to review it.. How is the EPA estimate on mileage? if on par with the 3- series, i will seriously consider this car, looks way more sleek and sophisticated!!
It looks like they are trying to position the C class as an S class that got shrunk in the wash. Loved the original 190E and this is the first C class since that one which I find to be attractive. MB must have something up its sleeve to keep this from cannibalizing the E class.
NikoBell12 They're expesnive to maintain for anyone. Parts cost a fortune to replace because they want to put so much stupid technology in them. Engines have 2 spark plugs per cylinder, air suspension where ONE shock costs $1,170 and then has to be reprogramed by the dealer or someone with a dealer level scan tool, etc. If I REALLY wanted one, I would lease one because once things start falling apart, which they will, I dont want to be the person paying for them. Also, the resale value is terrible after 4-5 years because they're so expesnive to maintain.
NOLAItsNotOva Anyone? If they were they wouldn't sell so much. You do not represent everyone. There are cars for every taste and every price. Obviously this car is too expensive for you.
Bora Markovic Douchery and snobbery are what keep their showrooms busy more than anything. There is no real reason for their cars to be so expensive to maintain and repair.
Can anyone verify the trunk space of the C400? On Mercedes' website trunk space is listed at 17 cubic feet, the E class has 15.9 cubic feet, and the S class has 16.9 cubic feet. Is this true or is there a typo?
No, its not exclusive to the US-market. You can also buy both engines within a few months in Europe. Due to lower demand of highpowered engines they do hit the market later than the four-cylinder diesels (up to 204 hp) and less-powered four-cylinder gas engines (up to 211 hp) in Europe.
Mercedes has stepped their game up. However, they are still sorely lacking in the transmission department, and that new infotainment screen is atrocious.
Car looks great, but it looks too much like a small S Class without the sports package, and too much like a small E Class (from the front mostly) with the sports package. Seems a little lazy to me, but I know the car will sell even better for those exact reasons.
I'm sure new S-Class owners love seeing a new $40k S-Class knock-off driving the roads. This car doesn't look distinctive or half as classy as the 2014 C-Class
The floating "iPad" esque displays are awful visually imo. I also miss the squared edges of their previous design language. I'll have to drive one when I start looking for my next car in about a year.
in two years i will be ready to replace my 2007 Infinity G35s with this. I love my Infiniti but i look forward to a little more luxury, this will suffice.
The screen on the dashboard, that looks like a tablet sitting there, bothers me, all I can see is a 5 year old getting into the car and ripping it right off the dashboard...I think it looks cheap and is a very poor design. I much prefer the screens built into the dashboard, not attached to it, I really don't like that at all.
everyone has their own taste but for me personally, Mercedes has gone on a downward trend with their current stylistic trend, in particular the front end. The previous S class wasn't that great, the current one is even worse + the two interior dashboard 'squares look' completely out of place. The c class front end is hideous. The SLK and SL look awkward...
I'm okay with the front of it. But I'm against the cheap looking back of it. Mercedes never takes time on the back! And also the cheap interior. Like who would want a mini cheap ipad sticking out. And the whole interior with the air vent makes it look more cheap.
Stop saying Japanese car is better, it's not. It's for people who can't afford the best and is force to settle for the inferior product. German makes the best cars on this planet.

Cristiano Ronaldo
The feeling is mutual, BMW fanboy.
P.S. It was entertaining to watch you (or your idol) lose in Brazil this year.
Well said.
Perhaps people prefer sport before luxury. If you want a very luxurious vehicle, go for Mercedes (non-AMG) if you want a very sporty car, go for BMW, if you want the best of both...then get an Audi.
Joel Pascual if you want a truly luxurious car , should get the Jaguar XJ .
First time I can say a C class looks better than 3 series.
Same with the interior, though for me its not the first time
Until you see the new C-Class in the most base form lol
Javon K same goes for 3 series, the base model without halo lights looks just silly

What a well spoken guy... Mercedes Benz does't employ idiots like that guy from Nissan

damn why are people such haters?? I have a 06 c230 with 200,000 miles on it, and it runs perfect! never had any problems with it...
It´s the samer over here, in Germany: People are jealous . Pity is a gift, envy...you have to work hard for ;-)

What maintenance have you done on it and how so often would you get it done ?
For those that don't like the way the LCD is mounted, I believe that someone at Mercedes stated that they designed like that to make it easier to upgrade/ replace. First time I'm hearing of that.
I seriously doubt Mercedes would offer upgrades or replacements to the COMAND unit. They upgrade it with each new model in order to entice you to buy a new car!
Really? Thats their excuse? So when that cheap tablet breaks they can replace it? Makes no sense.
It's up there so you can see it without taking your eyes off the road. Considering how difficult that whole system is to use, it really needs to be where it is.
He is so well spoken. Good job hiring this guy Mercedes-Benz!
its funny how people talk about benz like they own them. they go to forums and things and form their opinions, well you have to take those things with a grain of salt because you only post those kinda things when you have problems, you never see forums praising them or how great they are because their suppose to great, so you always find the complaints first. i own a used 98 brought a few years back and it didnt cost nearly as much as people say it should cost to maintain. its a car parts go bad but as not as bad as people my car has never needed to stay in the shop for anything i had to replace a few parts but they were really cheap given that the internet is so helpful and now the car is back in my mothers hands with 150k miles on it so i brought a c250 2013 and so far so good, and where i live i see old benz 2007 and older.

Andrew S thats awesome great line up how many miles do you typically keep them till?
It really looks like Mercedes puts more thought and a lot more work into the designs of the interior and exterior than BMW.
Absolutely
I like Mercedes' new design language, they needed to change and it's for the better. The only thing I can't stand are those LCD screens that stick out on top of the dash. It just doesn't look good, I wish they could disappear just like in Audi's. Can't wait for the AMG version.
It does look like the brand new Genesis 4 door though.. Who copied who?
adams1696
Invest in some glasses, bud.
NikoBell12 you too bud :)
No if they make it a pop up screen like the Audi's it will be small. They can't make an 8" pop up screen.
Each to his own. On this Benz, I happen to love the look of that new LCD screen the way it is.
worth the wait roman
I like how in US they give you the 240hp engine as stock, give you leather, leds and whatnot all at the lower price, while in EU you get halogen lamps, 180hp engine, and cloth seats for more money that US base model.
Was that sarcasm, or do you actually like that?
Sarcasm, no one likes to pay more and get less. And btw the car is made in EU which makes it even worse.
Then you go to China and they get an even more loaded model, but at double the price.
Thank the taxes for that. We here in the UAE don't have taxes for engine sizes or anything but the prices are always high.
I'm so getting the c400 4matic!
I purchased one in November and I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!! I had a 2010 C-300 and it doesn't compare.
Hi.. mostly likely gonna get one..did you get the c300 or c400? i have a c300 2008.
How is it treating you now lakesia ?

Cant wait to see the new C63 amg!
Fantastic car, best of its class.
***** You shouldnt compare c class with bmw 3 anymore. You really shouldnt. Compare M4 with the upcoming C63...the numbers talk for themselves.
***** the 3 series can now be compared with the cla. not with the c class. not anymore.
Hehe, the SI dial in my Subaru STI gives me more hp. Boost goes from 4 PSI in intelligent mode to 19 in S#. Nowhere as luxurious as this thing though but about the same price.

I wasn't a fan of the new headlights but now I like them.
Bought one Saturday.. Nice ride...
The profile looks a bit stubby and truncated. The C-class coupe will probably have better proportions

agreed
no, they are needed as taxis in germany;)

does it still have timing chain problem as in the model before?

I would LOVE to owe a Mercede!
Beautiful Mercedes!!!!!
i would definitely get one of these next month for my wife!
the best among rivals
Agreed....... I just wonder what the next gen Audi A4 and jaguar's new XE got up their sleeves with their entries into this segment.
Timothy Redd Especially with the success and surprising sophistication of the A3, I am thoroughly excited to see what Audi does with the A4.
Next car! I love Mercedes!
They used actual wood for the interior? Impressive!
Very nice car, but what is with the iPad on the dash? Looks very out of place. They couldn't have integrated that a little better?
I love this car, I just wish the lease deals were a lot lower, I mean $500+ for a c class is just crazy.
A Mercedes isn't meant for someone who is making their decisions based on a budget...
the c300 base model is 39k not 500k the most expensive mercedes starts @ 94k. dont believe me look on there website👌🏾
Can anyone verify the trunk space of the C400? On Mercedes' website trunk space is listed at 17 cubic feet, the E class has 15.9 cubic feet, and the S class has 16.9 cubic feet. Is this true or is there a typo?
Looks to be very well done.
Will America get the c450 sport amg wagon?
Probably will be 63amg sport wagon
andrey svit we missed out with the last c63 wagon hopefully we get the new one
From the back it looks like the '08 Honda Accord. But still a nice looking ride.
does this mercedes have an auxiliary battery?
is this car out in canada yet, or is it coming soon?
Very nice car.
Why do test cars/pre production cars always have Michigan license plates?
so does the c300 have an exhaust note? the c400 sounds good
C Class is getting more elegant and sporty than my 2013 e class .
In my country there are more people driving e class than c class
Yes, but the new S and C Classes bodes well for when Mercedes updates the E. I seriously cannot wait to see what Benz has in store for the new E.
Also what's the gas mileage for c300
thats a nice shirt mercedes guy! where can i buy it?
Whats the 0 60 time for the c300
"five series, six series Benz's
fuck them lil C's, I'm on some ol maino shit."
is it right that the C 400 and C300 exclusive to the US market
true
thanks

Mercedes has stepped their game up. However, they are still sorely lacking in the transmission department, and that new infotainment screen is atrocious.
Omg I was at that exact resort two summers ago 😂
Is it easy to sell?
I don't like that LCD screen sticking out. It just looks odd.
C class was always a baby S class
What about the C450 ?
Correct
This is our 2nd C Class the 2009 3.0L has 230K on it and going..
Car looks great, but it looks too much like a small S Class without the sports package, and too much like a small E Class (from the front mostly) with the sports package. Seems a little lazy to me, but I know the car will sell even better for those exact reasons.
Looks like he knows... finally.
I wanted to know more though...
Speaking of cost, I hate to think how much it will cost to replace one of those overly fussy headlights. Check your insurance costs.
I think he means design 'cues'. No?
did they forget about the interior? they actually putt a fan in it
better than the old model except the cheap display. on feel it looks like its gonna fall and make noise when moving
I'm sure new S-Class owners love seeing a new $40k S-Class knock-off driving the roads. This car doesn't look distinctive or half as classy as the 2014 C-Class
Love the interior except for the screen. It seems out of place.
magnifique
Looks like there's room for an A Series sedan....
love the body i cant wait to see the AMG beast
The floating "iPad" esque displays are awful visually imo. I also miss the squared edges of their previous design language. I'll have to drive one when I start looking for my next car in about a year.
they forgot to mention the price increase
The stick-on screen looks so out-of-place on the gorgeous center panel :( Why is this a trend?
Why make a sports car quiet? The should have never done that, especially to the C400.
why does that guy wear his sunglasses? He is doing an interview not a sunglasses advert.
awesome car i want it. no matter if i have to sell drugs or rob a bank kuz it cost so much lol
I still don't get why such an expensive car has a screen that has such huge bezels :(
shut up
+OneOfOne LOL I CANT.. THE WAY.... SO LITERAL
AHAHAHAHA
I Think Inside C Class2014 Are Way Better Than S class Mercedes 2014
Are you dum . It's like comparing a rolls Royce to a range rover .
CAr looks great, power is nice but someone please do something about that ugly screen
in two years i will be ready to replace my 2007 Infinity G35s with this. I love my Infiniti but i look forward to a little more luxury, this will suffice.
ebg1222 and... Two years have passed. Did you replace it.
Proud owner of 2016 VW GTI. As off two weeks ago.
dont evaluate after seeing a new car test review
They don't make cars like they use to.. Your paying so much for cheaper Quality
Ahh, these cars are okayyy
Doesn't sound as goods as a Infiniti q50
everyone has their own taste but for me personally, Mercedes has gone on a downward trend with their current stylistic trend, in particular the front end. blenguini you are blind have you ever seen one in person???
Front end looks ugly.
wow. the price tag completely defeats the purpose of a mini sedan class. might as well let there be just the E and S class. horse shit
#cla
Carfan678 no thank you
it sounds like my fart. amg exhaust is a must
Automatic transmission sucks.
The CLA-Class exterior looks better, in my opinion.
Sorry but really bad camera work!
I wish mercedes didn't go in the direction of bmw and audi by making the c, e, and s class all look the same. It's just a terrible idea.
Stop saying Japanese car is better, it's not. It's for people who can't afford the best and is force to settle for the inferior product. German makes the best cars on this planet.
