@@LucyLioness100 Yes that is also a possibility. Omen is a supernatural franchise about bringing legitimate son of Satan to the world so a lot is possible in terms of bending the rules of the world it created. I see sometimes first omen compared as in the original post to Rosemary's baby and Possession, but in my view it is an unfortunate comparison. I think that those extra stories to tell could be the convent trying to find Margaret and the girls since they know she made it out of the fire. I also found it fascinating that both The First Omen and Immaculate came out so close together and are inverses of each other. The birth of the second coming of Christ and the Antichrist. Definitely one of my new favorite prequels and glad you enjoyed this film. It was a welcoming surprise and THAT scene, holy sh...t lol. Such a fun film.
With me, something I'm still skeptical about is I already know they retcon the jackal storyline. For me, that still feels like a deal breaker. I'm sure I'll still see it, but that is something I'm not so sure about. Anyways, thank you, Cody.
I was very skeptical about the movie too because it’s a horror prequel as well (I love the original Omen film) but now you’ve peaked my interest especially about those images you never thought you’d see on the big screen so now I’ve got to see it. Excellent review thx Cody!
I’ve seen so so many horror films in my 54 years but the original Omen has never been surpassed as far as impending doom throughout and days after seeing it. This prequel is worthy. The original Omen is still king.
Great video Cody! Could you do a review for The Loved Ones? I saw it on a video you posted a while back only a few days ago, and the film intrigued me. My god I was not expecting that at all. Shook me to my core. Have a good day Cody!
I really enjoyed this film and really like how the story added a new element into the franchise. Yes, that last part was a bit surprising and I believe that the studio added that end so that they can have an excuse to make another movie.
I don't know how to feel about decent horror movies being released so early in the year! My world is slightly askew! 😔 Ok I'm over it! 😂 Great review! 🎉
This was a pretty nice surprise. Good scares and tension, great cast, surprising screenplay. A bit overlong but good. I don't know how it would work but I'd watch a sequel to this one. 8/10
Cody, thanks for pointing out the Father Brennan issue. I just got back from seeing "The First Omen" and while it's a very enjoyable (a few nitpicks aside) movie, I couldn't understand half of what Father Brennan (Ralph Ineson) was saying. The accent is HEAVY.
Lol, your hardcore fans know how you feel about prequels; I wasn't hounding you for this review, BUT I was anxiously awaiting your thoughts to see if this one lived up to the hype. Congratulations on your continued success!
I've heard good things about this. It's rare that you hear the term "proper prequel" but that's being thrown around. Hopefully it's as good as I think but I'll find out soon.
The 1st act was almost of identical to Immaculate lol that actually brought it down a score for me. That along with the very similar scares to the conjuring universe in that same act.
I get it but it’s not that big of an issue for me. You could explain it away fairly easy as the protagonists in the original having incorrect information.
@@CodyLeachYT Except that it was the same father Brennan that tells Robert Thorn that Damien´s mother was a jackal. That he was there when he saw Damien being born from it. What they could have done was having Margarete gave birth to an actual jackal that gave birth to Damien. And, of course, give an explanation as to why it had to be case. ...and, if not, at the very least had a scene saying that they were going to place a jackal´s skelleton in a grave. The thing is that this is such a crucial element the The Omen mythos that they couldn´t just change it as is: in the first movie was established, in the second the doctor finds jackal´s cells in Damien and as and adult Damien claims a jackal to be its mother. On another thing, in the first Damien (being the AntiChrist) couldn´t be near a church because he became ill. Yet here you have a Satan´s daughter that, basically, became a Nun and nothing happened to her. Finally, as for another story...I´d take Damien´s twin sister be the reporter from the third movie. That either she, somehow, forgot that he was his brother or that she was trained to seduce Damien as to have a baby with him.
So I watched this movie and really enjoyed it... The next day, I walked into Immaculate sight-unseen. I felt like I paid for the same movie twice... and I couldn't complain bc they were both good!!
For me i started liking this movie quite a bit right with the introduction of Nell Tiger Free in the movie. I am very well aware of who she is since i watched both GAME OF THRONES and TOO OLD TO DIE YOUNG. My idea of her was of a solid young actress and that's it. But right from the begining she was a comanding presrnce, very movie star like, a very interesting and compelling ptotagonist and she carries the lead role duties effortlessly. The camera just loves her. Savevfor the pre-titles sequence and a montage at the end, she is in every scene un the movie and never once she is the weak link. For me she is the first and stringest reason i enjoyed the movie. This is also the first work she is in that did show just how tall she actually is and i have a huge weak spot for tall beauties. 😊
The ending felt like it meant to be a post credit studio add on.. but it could easily be a "re-quel" where it cancels out the Omen 2 and 3.. and starts its own.. now traditionally those movies arnt done well, (looking at you halloween) but neither are prequels, but this nailed it.. also, what a directional debut (features)
SPOILER: I thought the reason they explained for their efforts to induce the antichrist took all the kick, fear and mystery out of the original story. Also one of the reasons the original was so terrifying is nothing supernatural happened on screen. It's just the devil sorting everything out in the background. When I saw the hand and the jackal I was like naah. The lead actress and Father Brennan actor were both amazing though. It was really well made and cinematography was beautiful.
EXACTLY! That's what's so creepy about the original. TECHNICALLY everything we see can just be dismissed as coincidence. Plus the mystery surrounding Damien's birth, the notion that the anti-christ's mother was a jackal with the immaculate conception, is just such a grim notion. But then this prequel comes along as does it all in the most convoluted way possible. Genuinely very scary and well made horror, though. But as an Omen prequel, just doesn't work.
@@scotscub76 It felt more like a Rosemary’s Baby story than The Omen, when the Omen was unique and did its own thing. Also what’s the deal with making it no longer Satanists, but instead disgruntled Catholics trying to eradicate secularism as the orchestrators? Felt like a very calculated anti-Christian Hollywood message.
I just finished this movie about 30 minutes ago. While i think its a very good movie. There were 2 things that bothered me. 1: Some times the acting was just not convincing. For instance: When Margaret is giving birth to the babies and they're cutting her open. She keeps asking for help and saying "I'm in pain" in like a whispery voice. And i'm watching that scene and thinking to myself.. you don't sound like you're in pain. They literally cut her open with a scalpel and they're pulling the kid out of her body. And she doesn't scream like a normal person would. 2nd thing that bothered me: The twist where she's the baby in the photo was so predictable. They tried so hard to convince me that, Carlita was the baby. But come on... The main character literally has visions. She can see the dead and you expect me to believe this other girl who's done nothing but draw creepy pictures is the person the sisters were looking for? I don't think so.
now i’m trying to think of what prequels in horror i actually like and i can’t think of any besides Prey? ik there’s a few good ones but none come to mind right away
THIS MOVIE WAS AWESOME CREEPY. Jacobs Ladder meets Omen, exorcist, and Suspiria....if you don't see it in theaters, you're missing out... It's like not seeing Halloween 2018 in theaters
Cody you need to write your own movie. It’s funny that Hollywood has done this twin film thing so many times. Deep impact-Armageddon Turner and hooch- K-9 Powder- phenomenon Dautes peak- volcano Antz- a bugs life Truman show- edtv Dark city- the matrix Red eye- flightplan Prestige- illusionist No strings attached- friends with benefits Olympus has fallen- White House down Violent night- fatman Like it’s like they do this on purpose to make movie off the idea twice over.
Why is no one talking about the guy pinned between the wall and the truck?? That was realistic horror. I feel like that scene was this movie’s scene parallel to the original Omen’s decapitation scene. I felt sick while watching.

This was such a surprise for me and Im glad I didnt watch Immaculate first. But I thought it was great and I actually appreciated the lil surprise and switch in what was really going on.
Admittingly, I'm not all that interested when it comes to religious horror, the only exceptions would've been Exorcist 1 and 3. Hell, I wasn't even that interested in viewing Cody's Omen reviews. However, after seeing "The First Omen", I had such a great time, that it actually made me want to watch the original and in a good way.
I watched this last week and I was like, “When’s Cody going to review this one?” 😂 I’m so glad you liked this one 😃 but…could you do a spoiler review too?
Saw it Sunday night and convinced my non horror fan husband to go with me. I thought it was very nicely done. It was a slow burn but made up for it in the 3rd act. I wasn't surprised by the outcome at all but it was still revealed nicely. I had some questions though about the last scene. It was unnecessary and I am confused as to where they need to go with it.
I agree. My thought is that if The First Omen was a prequel to an upcoming remake of The Omen I wouldn’t have minded the last scene but since they are directly tying it to the original film I agree they should’ve ended the film with Damien being given to the doctor.
Ok, ok, I’ll give it a look-see. Much as I enjoy the big screen and great sound, I really prefer watching at home and utilizing the subtitles. It makes me crazy when I cannot understand the dialogue because of strong accent or mumbling actor. Both might send me over the edge! This is why I was always a fan of the sub-run theaters that only charged $1 or $2 per ticket, you got the real theatrical experience without breaking the bank, and then if I liked the movie I could watch at home with the subtitles ON and pick up on plot points I may have missed in theater. Really do miss those cheap seats!
yea thats exactly what i did when i got home was watch the original. the original is very special for me in that it was the first horror movie i ever watched when i was a kid. The transition is pretty seamless.
The balcony scene with Nun,reminiscent of the"Look at me Damien,it's all for you"but not as impactful, and more so because she was just normal and didn't look like Golum,I've not watched the entire film, but it's not bad,I'm of the age to have seen the original in the cinema when it was originally released in 76,and have re-seen it I've lost count how many time's,this however I don't think I'll be re-watching,I just liked the original better. And I suppose, there is the additional factor of the original being filmed close to where I live.
Sydney Sweeney had been holding onto the script for Immaculate since 2014 or something and was waiting to make it all that time. Must be a coincidence with this one coming out so close. Also the Immaculate Conception , which I’m assuming the title is referring to, is the Catholic doctrine of the birth of Mary , not Christ. Not sure she knew that…

It was the birth scene and showed full nudity. The hand coming out was fine. A woman’s body was not- figured?!?
Thanks, Cody! You HAVE PUT IN A LOT OF WORK. You can’t help it if you’re MOVIE SUPERMAN! Anyway, your intro made me laugh, especially the “all for you” 😂😂😂😂! You’re appreciated, thanks for the review, I too thought this would SUCK. This one goes on the watchlist as usual, keep ‘em coming!
I love this opening 😂 been a fan for a while. Your sense of humor never disappoints.
There's a reason we all wanted your opinion, Codester... the movie is fuckin EPIC! Reminded me of great Horror films from the 70's like Omen, Exorcist and Rosemary's Baby. Creepiest movie I've seen since The Witch.
Ooo I love the Witch. You've intrigued me lol
Codester 🤢🤮 he's a grown man
@holyglitch1126 So are you apparently, so why are you bothered by it when it's not even you he's referring to? Grow up. 🤡
@@craigsovilla6578 is your comment necessary? Kid? Join a sport or break 60 kilos before you think your mouth can stick up for people... 😂 (🤡)
All I said is, Jesus that's cringe. Calling a grown man, a dad codester.
@@craigsovilla6578 who you calling a clown? We already know your down in Jacksonville USA. The audacity for.you to be lippy to me...have you looked in a mirror? Florida sounds like a fairy tale story
💯💯
@Amp661 ‘Cause
I have been hearing some pretty good things about this movie, but Cody’s deal of approval has me excited now.
Agree with you about the Omen deaths, needed more. But this movie is still great.
Ok I'm over it! 😂
Great review! 🎉
One of my new favorite cold opens from cody
This was a pretty nice surprise. Good scares and tension, great cast, surprising screenplay. A bit overlong but good. I don't know how it would work but I'd watch a sequel to this one. 8/10
Love the detail in this review... best I've seen in ---
ever.
Much love from Canada! 🤙🏻
This was the scariest movie I’ve ever seen I literally almost fainted during the HAND scene and that’s never happened to me
😂😂😂 really?
Number one that is hilarious because I did see the comments asking when were you going to talk about The First Omen lol.
Second, that shirt is fire 🔥🔥
There’s a scene with Margaret that reminded me of Possession. Loved her commitment
I heard that in the JoBlo review & you can definitely see the influence without outright copying frame for frame
Glad you had a great time at cinemacon Cody, that Deadpool footage though. As far as horror prequels go the first Omen might be the best prequel
What about the dog skeleton of the mother in The Omen?
1 hour ago I was wondering why you hadn't done the first omen review. And you doing it as I thought about it. THATS AWESOME
definitely had to turn subtitles on for brennens scene 😂. agree with immaculate. kinda took me maybe 20-30 minutes to look past it to enjoy this
I watched this before watching the orginal and I guess I wasn't supposed to do that.
SPOILER:
I thought the reason they explained for their efforts to induce the antichrist took all the kick, fear and mystery out of the original story.
@@spenser9908 💯!
I’m glad you mentioned the Immaculate comparison, because that was my first thought leaving the theater
Excellent review from a fantastic reviewer.
In Cody i trust 🖒🖒🖒
Was really happy with this one but totally agree about the last scene
Hey Cody probably a dumb question but have you done a review of the original flatliners movie from 1990
I just finished this movie about 30 minutes ago.
5:00, I think Cody feels dirty now 😂😂😂
I saw it twice ...first time with open captions which helped.
It was amazing I was pleasantly surprised
now i’m trying to think of what prequels in horror i actually like and i can’t think of any besides Prey? ik there’s a few good ones but none come to mind right away
5:00 I'm dying 😭
Yup, most WTF shot of 2024!
THIS MOVIE WAS AWESOME CREEPY. Jacobs Ladder meets Omen, exorcist, and Suspiria....if you don't see it in theaters, you're missing out... It's like not seeing Halloween 2018 in theaters
Better late than never.
I look forward to see how this one will rank among the other films in an updated ranking.
Cody you need to write your own movie. It’s funny that Hollywood has done this twin film thing so many times.
Deep impact-Armageddon
Turner and hooch- K-9
Powder- phenomenon
Dautes peak- volcano
Antz- a bugs life
Truman show- edtv
Dark city- the matrix
Red eye- flightplan
Prestige- illusionist
No strings attached- friends with benefits
Olympus has fallen- White House down
Violent night- fatman
Like it’s like they do this on purpose to make movie off the idea twice over.
Why is no one talking about the guy pinned between the wall and the truck?? That was realistic horror. I feel like that scene was this movie’s scene parallel to the original Omen’s decapitation scene. I felt sick while watching.
@Cody glad it was a good one, course you know npw the masses will want your top 4 list of horror prequels you like 🤣😂. Hope you have a good week with the family
This was such a surprise for me and Im glad I didnt watch Immaculate first. But I thought it was great and I actually appreciated the lil surprise and switch in what was really going on.
I keep hearing great things about this everywhere and thats great! Once again well done on another great video 👊🤘
I watched this last week and I was like, “When’s Cody going to review this one?” 😂
I’m so glad you liked this one 😃 but…could you do a spoiler review too?
What is on the table in front of the window?
Love that you used Eddie Griffin for the omen theme. Great comic, My favorite joke
What's his new channel?
Best. Intro. Ever. Joking or not.
Nice pun in the thumbnail, well done sir
Went to see "The First Omen" a few days ago and I had one HELL of a good time! 🤟🤘😈🔥
Cody just subscribed to your channel your content is amazing 🎉 keep up the great work
yea thats exactly what i did when i got home was watch the original. the original is very special for me in that it was the first horror movie i ever watched when i was a kid. The transition is pretty seamless.
Can't wait to see where this lands on the end of month ranking
yes Cody! been waiting for your thoughts on this one! :) thank you
The balcony scene with Nun,reminiscent of the"Look at me Damien,it's all for you"but not as impactful, and more so because she was just normal and didn't look like Golum,I've not watched the entire film, but it's not bad,I'm of the age to have seen the original in the cinema when it was originally released in 76,and have re-seen it I've lost count how many time's,this however I don't think I'll be re-watching,I just liked the original better. And I suppose, there is the additional factor of the original being filmed close to where I live.
This review has my a** flying to the theater!
As much as I did enjoy this movie, I still prefer Immaculate over the First Omen.
I 100% agree with all of your comments about the final scene.
It most have been a beautiful 9 hours drive to New Orleans 😀.
Always wanted to drive through the south US 😊
Sydney Sweeney had been holding onto the script for Immaculate since 2014 or something and was waiting to make it all that time. Must be a coincidence with this one coming out so close. Also the Immaculate Conception , which I’m assuming the title is referring to, is the Catholic doctrine of the birth of Mary , not Christ. Not sure she knew that…
really ? someone must have leak out this story , both same plot .........
I loved this film. 8/10. The ending making some bad decisions kept it from a 10/10.
I was really surprised how amazing First Omen and how much I love the movie.
Cody’s ‘final negative’ was kinda a positive for me. It creates another thread that can be explored.
I LIVE for your reviews Cody!
One of those rare ones where you could tell from the trailer it was gonna be a good one. Very Dario Argento somehow. Love the cast too
Hey Cody I know that you've been busy lately and thanks for the 1st Omen review. Now can you put a trailer reaction/review for recently dropped Maxxxine? Haha you have some catching up to do.
That scene at the end maybe they are gonna tie it into the ruined cemetery scene from The Omen. Only thing i could think of.
When she picked up the top half of dudes body it was so damn funny. Idk if it was meant to be that funny but i was laughing hysterically
