  • Bought a mower to make the lawn job easier. Seems it was designed to work on short grass that is already cut. Should I chop the deck with the angle grinder and make some room for the grass to hose out?

    Best unplug the spark plug before spinning a blade by hand. Unless you don't like you're hand of course. They're good mowers, use mine twice a week. If you use the side chute wrap a bungee cord around the seat then down onto the chute to hold it up a bit more. Helps get the grass moving. Cut high fist then do another pass at a lower cut

      Yes good safety tip it may take a little time but better than having an unwanted amputation.

    It's very cute, like a childs toy cute.
    Maybe that design is there for a reason, I'm pretty sure the local council BIG mowers also have that similar design. Problem I feel is if you pick up a rock and not have that OG design it's going to spit stuff out at high velocity. Anyway looks like a fun little machine

      Yes the design is for mulching. It is very much a difference in the way US or Canadian machines are designed. Their machines are designed to cut grass a lot taller than how we like to do it. And so the mulch gets pushed back down into the grass pile, whereas in Oz we like to cut close to the soil and there is not the room to take the mulch and the thing clogs up. I heard this info regarding the regional differences in design at a mower shop...twice now. True it has more potential to throw rocks, sticks, and Jacaranda seed pods but i am ok with that trade off in increased usability vs. projectile throwing ability. Perhaps I should put a plastic flap there, like I see on Aussie style mowers that fling shit!

      @@m3sca1 On my Icta (remember on mine the V fell off) lawnmower it has the mulching option and it really only works when you do a high cut. But what I don't like with mulching is how fast you chew through blades. This video had me looking at some of the massive viral videos related to lawn cutting. My God it's a totally different side to UA-cam that I didn't know existed. Scary how serious people take lawn cutting.

      I didn't get the catcher with mine. And the whole point of a ride on mower is to not get off while mowing...so a grass catcher seems counter intuitive. I have modified the deck to let grass eject like a normal zero turn deck. Seems to work a lot better than when I first got it. I can mow tall wet grass and not get blocked now.

    Hey guys I have a broken gear selection cable.Have bought a new one for $100 but cannot fit.Even the mower shop did not want to do the job.Now the bloody thing is stuck in gear and near impossible to move.Any advice about what I should appreciated.

    • @m3sca1
      @m3sca1  4 роки тому +1

      hmmm track down the manual first of all. check if you can move the lever on the gearbox first. My feels a little janky, sometimes it does not engage and i have to wiggle the lever on the steering tree. Oh and mod the cutter deck so it actually throws grass ;)

    • @trackburner3350
      @trackburner3350 4 роки тому +1

      Thanks for your prompt reply.The gear cable is snapped near the gearbox entry point but despite wiggling I cannot find neutral.I bought this mower from a guy in Tahmoor and of course he was able to move it ok and start it using jumper leads from his car.It needs a new battery and ignition switch I bought it as a restoration job.I have never had a ride on mower before it is all new to me.I had a local mower shop check it out and they said it too hard to work on???So now it sits in my garage taking up valuable room and tyres going flat.!

      Hay mate! I bought a bug for $50 last week! Both forward & reverse cable were seized up, I removed them today! One is easy to remove but the other one involves removing the brake caliper behind rear left wheel! Or dropping the axle to get it easy! (Axle took 10mins to drop)
      not hard to remove/ replace cables! You can do it in under an hour!

    Did you actually remove a slot/rectangle out of the side of the metal deck under the grass ejection chute in the end? Curious if you did as I now have one of these mowers myself and am having the same problem with grass clogging the chute.

    • @m3sca1
      @m3sca1  4 роки тому +1

      Indeed that is what I did. If you want a closer look i can do...goes like a champ with the mod. Can still clog up in wet grass but if you stop the cutter and then bounce the deck with the cut height adjustment handle...the crap comes out...and you can continue. Make sire your pulleys are correctly tensioned and the belt runner guides are on the correct side. The manual can be found online also. Edit it was more of a well planned cut then a rectangle to match the design of zero turn decks i had seen.

      @@m3sca1 Don't happen to have a photo of your handy work do you? I'm guessing to maintain the integrity/rigidity of the deck you would need to leave/not cut the flanged section at the bottom of the deck.

    The blade do not rotate freely because of blade break is on when blades not active, so it is ok.
    I also see uou lose belt holding pin on the covering shield. Better make it back to get safe belt holding.

      heh im guessing you never lived in the tropics...when it grows so fast cos it rains too much to mow without getting bogged and the grass is always wet..sometimes I am literally waiting for a dryish day to get a chance to even try to mow...and sections that are too wet...just have to leave it for a dry week.

      its a seasonal issue, in the wet season can't wait for it to dry to mow it or it will be even taller
