    My nephew is getting bullied at school, and his mom told him that he needed to stand up for himself and speak out and he did just that for the first time and we were so proud of him and he’s only in the second grade

      @shesinherapron Рік тому +5

      That’s fantastic!! I’m sorry he’s being bullied but he will build so much confidence being able to use his voice.

      Good for his mom and good for him. I sure hope that is the last time he is bullied but now that he has stood up for himself once he will hopefully do so again.

    So, you opened with teaching driving. Funny memory. I was SO nervous with teaching both my kids to drive. I used to keep a tube of hand cream in my glove box so that I could put some on my hands and it wouldn’t be so obvious I was wringing my hands out of nervousness. Side benefit - my hands felt like butta during that time.

    I'm a young mom with 3 kids under 5. One of the best things I ever did was delete all my social media. I've never had Instagram, which is pretty unheard of for a 29 yr old 😅 but I'm so glad I never got sucked into that.

      You don’t even have to be a mom to delete it. FB was such a time waster so I just stopped getting on it. Never got into IG or the others thank goodness

    Thanks, Christine and Kimmy!

    I wanted to continually add more and more thumbs up! This whole conversation was fantastic! And thank you Christine for advising us mothers of young children to not compare and put the phone down. I'm constantly trying to tell myself I'm just in a phase of life that may not be the easiest one for me. When i stop comparing myself to others this phase actually does get easier.

    Ah, ladies, this conversation was so fun!
    Thank you for addressing kids advocating for themselves. My youngest daughter (she’s 10) is deaf. She’s had to advocate for herself her whole life. Now she’s at that rotten age when girls are just mean to each other, and she the one coming home crying. It rips my heart out 😢.

      Ugh...mean girls, grr 😠 😡 😤 We have five daughters and I am trying to teach our girls every day that there is a world full of bullies and mean people. I want you to be the kind people and those who see someone getting bullied and step in and shut it down.

    I had to pause for a minute during your discussion during the difficulty of a child with an IEP, or maybe a little after. The looks on your faces, I feel, was the perfect reflection of what mother's feel and want for their children. It is all about empathy and supporting each other. I could never pause at that spot again but thank you for that moment.

    Oh Kimmy! Good for you! We raised an ADHD DYSLEXIC child. One oh my techniques was also to ask how xyz is working and when they wouldn’t back down my solution was to offer to come to class and observe and maybe try it “my” way. I even took a group of kids for a day. Each child has their own learning style and once you insist on xyz written in their IEP they have no choice but to follow them - within reason. I actually had a teacher tell me that if he’d just study harder he’d learn to read!!! He graduated with maybe a third grade reading level but excelled in math. To make an even longer story short, my son is now 44, is superintendent over building a hospital.

    Love the conversations…I loved getting my “honorary” master’s degree and Doctorate….my daughter would have me go over all her papers and thesis work…so I learned so much from reviewing her research. So I understand the “fun” of helping your kids. Sometimes your parenting homework doesn’t end in high school. Enjoy this season. They really are all pretty great 😊

      One day. It’s hard to share without telling his story, but one day we’ll figure it out. #1 tip is to find the right therapist. If you’re going through attachment issues, find a therapist that specializes in that. A lot of adopted kids have a form of an attachment issue. The big one is RAD (reactive attachment disorder) which gets mis-diagnosed with ODD. Find counseling for them you and the other kids in the home. If you're married, go to counseling together! Oh man, I can go on..🤪❤️

    Okay, so I am going to play devil's advocate with the 50 states thing: it's not really about having to know the 50 states. It's about having to memorize a large amount of information in a short amount of time, which is something you have to be able to do at quite a few jobs. When I was a cashier at a grocery store, I had to have almost all of the PLU codes memorized within the first week. Yes, some of them do have the stickers, but that takes time. Furthermore, a lot of jobs require that you think quickly on your feet. So, no, it's not about knowing the 50 states.
