I think we can all agree that Katie is a gift to this industry. The amount of knowledge you’ve presented in a digestible way to hobbyists over the years is honestly mind-blowing. Seriously, thank you for refusing to play into the gatekeeping culture that tends to happen with communities like this. We appreciate you!
I've been lurking for over 5 years and always found watching you to be a gentle escape (despite the rogue chaos). You've made it so easy. I'm ready now. Christmas bonus, holla!
@@OverratedPants Oh man if I could send pic on this thing! I used the Skin Said Yes base (amazon), mica (amazon), a 12 cavity mold (same), silicone embed molds I already had, and some essential oil (I did VERY light scent because some family are wary of any fragrance at all). There were 4 batches: skulls (death to germs), shells in metallic colors on a blue background (some of the blue was a bit hot for this, but it made a wave effect), trees on a snowy white background, and gems on sort of a purpley blue background. I had issues getting just the right heat (pouring only 4 bars at a time make sense), so I think I'll wind up doing it again next year. Lots of fun though!
I’ve always found your videos to be beginner friendly but you have made them even more beginner friendly! I’ve been making soap for over 7 years now but I always recommend your videos to newer makers. ❤
Katie, thank you so much for this video, I have been watching you before you got married. I wanted to make cold process soap for a long time, but I'm scared of the lye water process. Now after seeing this video I think I won't be that scared since the lye water solution is pretty mixed in a bottle. I have purchased all the safety equipment, bowls, stick blender years ago still sitting on my craft shelves. I would like to give this coffee soap a try. If you make more of these video's I think I could do it knowing that you show each step. I will have to get that 5 pound mold, cause I want to use exactly what you use. I purchased the single bar cutter from an stay shop that also cuts melt and pour which I do. If you do more videos like this, I like all soaps you make, goat milk soap, beer soap, can't wait to see you do those sounds great to me.😊😊😊😊😊
Hi, Katie! I've been binging your episodes from years ago and the more recent ones. At first it was just for fun, then I started to think it would be fun to do. I wasn't looking for a new hobby, put it's found me anyway! I'm doing melt and pour (I've been watching videos for that as well), and finally took the plunge. The most fun was finding equipment as inexpensively as I could so I raided the Dollar store. Also checked my local thrift store and got a frother, a box of probably 800 craft sticks, a potato peeler, a tea strainer, a 2 cup measuring cup and silicon molds with gummy bears (lots!), large sunflower cupcakes, tiny Bundt cakes, Christmas bulbs, sea creatures, skeleton parts, cupcakes, dinosaurs and a tray of hexagons for $25. Score! I stop in every so often now to see if someone has donated their silicon molds for me! I also got fragrance oil samples and your Royalty mica and colorant set to get me started. I made my first soap and it came out ok! My friends are going to be getting lots of soaps for the holidays. Thanks again for your thoroughly enjoyable and instructive videos. I would never have started this without them.
I just wanted to leave a comment and say, your soap has been the best thing to happen to me. I've been using the Starglow bar for just about a week and my skin is clearer than it has ever been, and my skin texture is evening out. I am obsessed!
Hey! Katie, I just wanna say, tysm for being so kind and accepting, like, you don't shove your opinions/beliefs in your viewers faces, and I wanna thank you for that ❤
Being in South Africa ordering stuff from the US is extremely expensive due to the exchange rate ( 1$ = R18😢) and the postage also very expensive... so I really appreciate you not having things behind a paywall and being willing to share with us. Love it- and ALL your suggestions about future videos... cucumber, goat milk .. ALL of it❤
It's just the price. It's a lot for soap but it's not Exchange ratę fault. They have to pay the same amount of money in USA as you in South Africa and me in Poland. 😉
Katie, you are by far my favorite soap maker on YT. Super appreciate the emphasis on safety, much free info, recommendations, and your attitude of service to others. Your kindness, compassion and joy are delightful and infectious. Thanks for the cheer!
I am new to soaping. I truly thank you so much for sharing ❤. I find your content so informative and easy for new soapers to follow. I would love to see a goat milk and honey video.
My nine year old nephew loves your videos and we often make soap together. He would love it if you would make a non fat cow milk soap because that is the type of milk he drinks.
Thank you for the lovely sale, Katie. I splurged, again, this time on the Blameless bundles, to give to my mom who uses unscented, or super lightly scented stuff. This coffee soap looks amazing. I'll have to do a melt and pour version, though, but I love this coffee soap concept.
Katie, I just made my 1st loaf of soap. was so nervous but I did it. boy was it a disaster lol, really only because my batter got to thick before I could get it in the mold. I love that you made this kit and gave us the bubble book and all of these tutorials. I really just wanted to see what all the fun was about, I think I will leave this to you, your work is beautiful. Mine will take a lot more practice
like always you are so full of energy and tons of helpful commewnts. I ve been making soap abt 8 yrs and have fun watching you. You are so real ,fun,& work hard on theses videos to give so much to others. Thank YOU !!! Please save so energy for yourself and family . love you Katie
Putting your accent colour in the lye water container seems like a great way to get rid of the tiny amount of lye left in the jug. It will just incorporate itself into the soap batter instead of staying a dangerous acid.
I'm interested in using beeswax and honey in my soap (I keep bees). The first batch I made with beeswax and honey, I used too much honey and it overcooked, but the neat thing is it smells like a cookie. Next year when I get more lye and maybe a loaf mold that's not wibbly (thanks Amazon), I want to make a batch of cocoa soap chocolate chips with a veterinary syringe, and try to repeat the overheating honey and beeswax soap to make a chocolate chip cookie soap. Definitely not for sale or gifting to anyone with kids, wouldn't want someone trying to eat it, but I want to try it! With my first 2 lb of lye, (I got 11 batches) I experimented a fair bit with unscented, naturally scented (which means almost unscented) or minimally scented soaps because when I use essential oils at the recommended rate, they're so strong for at least the first couple days that I have to lock the soaps in the spare bedroom or the intensity of the aroma bothers us, and I actually triggered a friend's scent allergies three flights of stairs down from where I make soap just from it on my clothing, so I'm also making myself a lab coat I can toss on and shrug off as I leave "the lab". And thanks for the suggestion of a hairnet, I wear my hair braided so it rarely escapes, but it's still a good idea when working around cosmetics of any type.
Question that I would love to see you cover in one of your how-to vids: how do you size your recipe to any given mold? For example, this was a 5 lb mold, but you said you used 60 oz of oils. What about if you find cute silicone shape molds at Michaels and can get a volume measurement from them - how to you them convert that to the weight of oils you need? I'd love to learn that side of things.
I'd love suggestions on what would be appropriate to try with my daughter (4 years old). I don't think she's ready for lye soaps yet, but she loves your videos.
This video is giving me so many fun ideas for if I try cold process someday! I would love it if you could do a tutorial on how you make the salt bars. I enjoyed the one video you already made about them but parts of the process still confuse me and I need more details lol
This totals to 84.714 oz I don’t have a 5pd loaf but I do have 2 42oz molds could I just use this formula and split it into both loafs? Also the base oil your using is it the classics royalty soap recipe listed at the bottom of the description box? Please and Thank you❤️ newbie here😊
Hi Katie, I have been using a recipe I made which is Palm free with Shea butter. It works ok but it is really fast to trace. Any suggestions on how to slow it down.? Last time I soaped at 80 degrees. It was still too fast for much of a design. Recipe is Olive oil, coconut oil, shea butter, castor oil, sweet almond oil. 30/30/20/10/10. Hope You had a great Thanksgiving.
I might would try reducing your coconut oil to 20% and shea butter to 10% and increasing your olive oil to 50% !! Coconut and Shea are really hard oils and may have made your soap a bit thick! :)
HIGH TOP, FRUIT, BIRTHDAY CAKE/CONFETTI, Dupe scents. I would love to know how to do thin layers....not too many,,,but more then 3. THANKS!!! I have been watching for o long, I miss your brother.
I really hate the way youtube checks to see if I'm still there. Some people have admitted. I choose Katie's voice and soap making. And I feel like it's childish they keep bugging me to make sure I'm watching...... but I'll do it for katie haha
I'm interested in good sources for things like mica: this would be for hobbyists who wouldn't want to pay a huge shipping bill for a comparatively small order. How do you know that an ingredient is actually good to use in soap? Lots of listings don't seem trustworthy, but a novice like me may not know the difference
❤❤ you. How do you switch from matric to imperial? Like ounces to ml? From SA 😂 would you please include (in editing) on the side what amount it would be visa virsa❤❤
Yes, will certainly do in future! We switched for accuracy about a year ago, ounces to grams and so forth but I will try to include both going forward! ❤
Love your videos, your personality and your creativity!!! Im excited to hear about the bundles, now Canada needs to come off that strike!! My only ask is for us new to the soapmaking hobby, you can provide tips for 1lb mold. Just making soap for my family of four.

When you add coffee grounds are they 'brewed' coffee grounds, or just straight out of the container?
I use a triple butter recipe that I have fallen in love with. It uses cocoa butter, kokum butter, and cupaucu butter.
have u used tussah silk in a soap? would like to see that and a sea moss gel. happy holidays!!!
Do you have a link for the glass beakers??
Katie is Vanilla Cream as the same as Vanilla Fairy? I LOVE vanilla fairy

Wouldn't coffee and vanilla be a good mix because the color changes? What other soaps can get away with a brown soap?
have you done Japanese cherry blossom
How come I don't see you use vanilla stabilizer in your videos?
