I own Third World WAR and NATO and played them both back in the day. For those wondering about differences... NATO does not have an air battle aspect and is less complex. It is also much more predictable because the focus is on the ground. (I really like NATO BTW) Air battles really shift odds on battles in TWW. Also, the different TWW maps offer lighter games/fewer pieces with much different play style due to terrain which is nice. In TWW the air war will decide the outcome most of the time. Ive had games where I did awesome as the WARSAW PACT on the opening turn air war...then we roll bad weather on turn 2 and NATO turns the tide. (NATO benefits from more all-weather air capability.)
Also, in both games keep pushing PACT frontline units forward past any sacrificial NATO units. Isolate them and only engage when you must. Let the second and third echelon come up, surround and destroy the isolated NATO units when they are weakened and flanked.
Thanks for the unboxing. I never got into the original series and strategic/operational WWIII is not high on my wish list; but this looks very interesting. Also, I always appreciate more streamlined games systems and your comments on current offerings are very helpful.
Thanks Ardy, for another great video. Looking forward for a more comparative analysis of the three Cold War games that you mentioned. Maybe a future counter clipping topic.
Just received my copy today. Looks great. The huge stack of player aids is rather amazing; very happy with the setup/reinforcement cards in particular.
My own copy is sitting halfway around the world at my sister's house, where I had it delivered to avoid excessive shipping charges, so I was especially looking forward to this video. It looks like the production quality is great. I'll probably see it on Vassal before I see it in real life though.
Any idea how this one did with errata? I have this quirk where the more I pay for something, the more perfect I expect it to be. Just wondering whether they hit the mark on this one, especially given that from what I understand, the errata for NATO are enormous.
Great video sir. game does look fantastic and tempting but it is something that I would never get on my table especially since I'm basically a solo gamer. Its too hard for meto go out and I most would probably be able to get three maps on my game space. But if I were to say win a copy from the compass game UA-cam show I'm taking it. Why? My game collection is part of my kids inheritance.
Curious about this game. I already have 3 of the next war series so I don't know if I should get it. I hardly play NW due to the time it takes and being totally engrossed in the pacific theatre atm (learning Pacific War and playing EoTS). Edit: Nvm. Still unavailable in Europe. Import charges and shipping would double price of game. Still, looks like a really good integrated system.
Ordinarily I'd expect this to pop up in Europe... but in this case it may be sold out before it has the chance. It is, at least if you ask me, different from the Next War series in that it's "past hypothetical" as opposed to "future hypothetical".
@@ardwulfslair yeah... Hopefully with the success it is having they will re-release it. I am interested because you have all scenarios in one box. With next war I have this plan of setting up the three games (Korea, Poland and Vietnam) in three different rooms of the house and have a central command and then regional commands with shared assets and whatever. With 3rd world war the same could be done but with even more theatres...

Looking forward to your storage solution for this monster. Thanks for sharing the contents

If I pay $200 (or whatever the sale price is) for a game, I aint cutting a damn thing on any dotted lines :D
Page protectors for all the player aids and put those in a nice good quality ring binder

The component list doesn't include a box and lid set? :)
You gonna play the campaign game? If so, please have some video.
Yes. Although it's probably about #5 on the To Play list.

NATO has 2 pages of errata, some of which is cosmetic or just clarifications. I wouldn't call it enormous.
If you don't have the space for setting all the maps up, can I ask why the purchase? Can you play the game without having to use all the maps?
I would assume you can play the four games separately without using all of the maps at once.
Yes, plus the guy whose house we usually play at DOES have the space.

@@Heldermaior A second printing is already being lined up.
I assume the company that you wont name is the same company that Stiglr is "very fond off"...Thanks for the vid-much appreciated.
Good video thanks, I'm trying really hard to not buy this after just receiving NATO. Please give details of that clear box alternative to trays.
Great to see the unboxing. I went with NATO. but this was a close second.
You said "20".:D
Can't play this, so close to the truth
