The Zenith is one of the most beautiful watches made IMO. the design, the history, the precision, all appeal to me. Rolex has nothing I desire and actually turn me off as a group due to the snobbery. you can get everything and more than Rolex offers in other companies as long as your ego will allow.

Formex and Monta have absolutely nailed this for 1,200 pounds. And it's a chunker. The Daytona is far more elegant and would look good in a tux. The Zenith wouldn't. It would look too sporty. Same with the Omega vs Rolex battles. Why are Rolex the only ones making svelt steel watches? (besides AP an Patek of course). As soon as Grand Seiko, Zenith and Omega join the 40mm x 11-12mm club with microadjusting clasps, we'll have a real fight on our hands
It should be crime to selling luxury mechanical watch without transparent bottom sapphire cover but Rolex mastered to use Chinese manufacturing way and cutting corners/manufacturing cost and time wherever possible.
The Zenith with a Black Dial is stunning, I've got one for my Dad - and he absolutely loves it. In the current environment, where Rolex is becoming unattainable, there are tremendous opportunities to seek out wonderful watches. I didn't think to compare the Zenith to the Daytona (despite their history as the movement for certain Daytona models). I was more torn between the Zenith or a Speedmaster, since I think both have quite interesting case designs. The Zenith looks more professional and just felt right, plus (and this is nit-picking) Zenith's packaging is absolutely phenomenal. The box is actually practical, since it can be converted into a Travel Case rather than a plastic box which would need storing somewhere.
The Zenith wearer will be a nice guy but will be somewhat self-deluded regarding Zenith vs Rolex. Same kind of person who gets enthusiastic over Seiko.
I received my Zenith Chronomaster Sport just last week and I love it. It was never a substitute for any watch. I don't think the Daytona has lost anything though. More power to people that still love it and are able to acquire it. For my money, however, I will take the Zenith and used the money I saved (plus what I got for the Rolex) on my new Breguet 7137 - which I did.

I've always preferred Zenith's El Primero to Rolex's modern Daytona. While both are certainly stunning watches, the Zenith just packs in so much more value and feels a bit more special to me!
My Zenith has it, I imported one from England in high quality 😊 It is similar quality like the original band. Also with the holes from original band and the easy link it is possible to do adjustments betwen ❤
I bought the Zenith and absolutely love it. The clasp on the other hand... hard as fu#k to open first few weeks. I own few Rolex watches, but Daytona was never on my list and never will be, because of screw the down pushers. Looks are subjective, but to me... Zenith looks way better than Daytona in person.
I really like how you managed to sync the camera shutter to exactly the speed of the wheel teeth. The wheel ribs were rotating, the teeth were standing still. This nerd appreciates that little touch!

I have a very rare Movado Astronic HS360 Triple Date Moonphase automatic chronograph El Primero (a Zenith marketed in the U.S.A. by Movado) 36,000 beats per minute. Currently it is currently undergoing a full restoration. This past year Zenith introduced a "revival" of this watch ($8,400), but without the Moonphase.
If I asked to draw a chronograph I would draw my 1970 Seiko 6138 bullhead. But only because it’s on my wrist right now and I have an absolutely terrible memory.
All what it has in common visually is the black ceramic bezel. So to speak, not even the scale engraving isn't the same. I don't get why ppl have to reference it to Rolex Daytona. It is stupid and annoying.
Quintessential chronograph for me is the Speedy, the Zenith would be a compelling alternative though - really like the 10ths and its looks, especially with a black dial and leather strap.
I think I prefer the Zenith... but even at $10k it's still a hard sell. If they priced it closer to a speedy I can't help but think you'd see this a lot more on the street.
If you haggle you can likely get that price down a lot, Zenith dealers give large discounts. I picked up a 42 El Primero used for about the price of a moonwatch, it’s a beauty, super accurate, stunning movement and lots of bling the bracelet. Unlike the moonwatch you don’t have to be scared of getting it damp, I read it takes 1200 hours to make an El Primero movement, different league from a standard speedy.
I can absolutely agree on it being beautifully made and worth quite a bit. Maybe it's just a US thing... but Zenith doesn't really have the name recognition here, so the $10k price tag turns a lot of people off. I'd wager if you polled an average watch buyer here what luxury brands command a 10k price tag - none would respond with Zenith. I'd even bet most would see the Zenith name and equate it with cheaply made TVs from the 80s/90s.

I’ve noticed the used market is drying up a bit the older models like mine too, hopefully a sign Zenith is turning a corner brand wise. I spoke to a sales rep for them at an AD event, he was a watch enthusiast, a good sign who the brand cares for.
Managed to get hold of this beautiful chronomaster sport in white … lovely watch… in fact, I think it looks nicer than Daytona. To clarify, I’m a fan of both Daytona & chronomaster sport. If I could get Daytona black dial at retail one day, it’s great. If not, I’m pretty happy with my zenith.
The Zenith CMS is an amazing piece of engineering and beauty. I traded in my Speedy and another EP on mine and it is the only piece in my collection that I can say will never, ever leave my collection.

I thought that the screw down pushers made zero difference to water resistance? It's just that it stops you compromising it if you push them in when around water. Are you saying that you could use the Zeniths stopwatch under water?
Audio narration is heavy on the bass. I know it changed a while back but its lost its clarity to me, also the colours look desaturated like they've been offset or the gamma has been adjusted, a bit of a hazy grey layer to it all.
My 65th Birthday is approaching, I have been a watch collector now for 18-20 years. I own 36 pieces currently. The Rolex has been on my radar last 2-3 years. Loved the Daytona ever since I first laid eyes on it many years ago so I’m not going to pretend that Daytona was my Ultimate “Grail” Piece. After following the Zenith the past Year or so I have now changed my Mind, all things considered, the Zenith is absolutely a stunning piece. With its long history and beautiful dial , I am now going to get myself this Zenith and round out my collection with this beautiful watch. Thanks for this video, really helped me make my decision.
I would argue though that the Omega Speedmaster is the most iconic chronograph to have ever existed, Daytona a close second. The Daytona is the most desirable simply because of the crown on its dial.
I am impressed by Watchfinder's camera's ability to magnify and focus. Can anyone explain why specks appear on parts under the crystal? Such as on the red part of the centisecond hand in the Zenith and on the crown emblem in the Rolex. Are these impurities in the airspace or imperfections from manufacture? I have also noticed such specks in close-up videos of a few expensive watches--and I usually do not look so carefully. Is this as good as watchmaking can be or are such specks considered glitches?
Usually like Rolex, not in this case the Zenith is a superior and more classy watch. Rolex are becoming far too tacky with nothing to back up the premiums. I love the older Rolex's but won't be eying up there newer models. Superb job by Zenith.
Rolex is for those that think they've made it and want to show that off. I have Seikos, Hamiltons, Omegas, a Zenith and Tudor, among others I can wear anytime and never feel like I'm trying to prove anything

I have 2 questions what is the bezel made of and if the watch experiences issues who can or will fix it?? In Canadian dollars this is a thousand dollar watch and this level of watch can easily find tech support for service or repairs.
I never understood the rabid lust that many had for the Daytona. I will admit that when I saw the all black version in pictures a few years ago, I was quite impressed with the look upgrade that came with the introduction of the ceramic bezel and thought, “they finally made a version that I can appreciate”. Before the ceramic bezel, I wouldn’t have glanced twice at a Daytona. I even found it unpleasant to look at. A couple of things still annoyed me about the Daytona though. The bright red “DAYTONA”, the dated look of the round edged hour markers that are only amplified by the crisp sharpness of the minute & hour hands (one of the best hands by Rolex in my opinion), the “paragraph” of text with its squeezed narrow font… Not to mention the lack of a date. Something that I find is a must for an every day watch, that is only excusable by an aesthetic so mind blowing or an exceptional movement so as to tolerate that “fault” (the Openworked RO comes to mind). As for the Zenith, I have more respect for the name than I would ever have for Rolex. I have yet to add one to my collection. Even though this Chronomaster is a lovely timepiece from a pioneering watchmaker, I would still prefer my first Zenith to be the Defy 21.
I may be in the smaller camp here, but I genuinely prefer the Zenith. The tri color sub dials sitting behind that sapphire are the epitome of class in a glass...an elegant yet understated pop of color. Add in the 10ths of a second chrono on a watch that is available and several thousands of $s less expensive and it's almost a no brainer for me. If the Rolex is the itch you need to scratch, go for it, but for me, the Zenith is the objectively better proposition.
What bothers me a lot in the watch world is branding... Watches are not so obvious hobby, not everybody even knows that Zenith exists or even Patek or AP. People look at every watch that is a diver like it's a Rolex knockoff (cause they are not into watches and know what they think they see). You can drive Audi, BMW, Benz or Porsche, even old once and people would say it's a good, expensive car if it looks good. But for some people that I know a diver is a Submariner, chrono is a Daytona. You can rock your grandfathers Day Date Orient Rolex look a like with pride and heritage, but they will always see a Rolex knockoff... People act like Rolex invented watches, invented date, day and everythink in the world...
The only thing holding me back with the Rolex, totally missing a date. Two things in live, know the time and knowing what day it is without a smart phone. Zenith, shine ✨ on.

if I want a Daytona then I want a Daytona and not a copy of the Zenith name. That doesn't mean that Zenith is a bad watch, not at all, because prices and availability have come very close at the moment.

I believe the El-Primero still has a lateral clutch & single balance cock. Just leaving Rolex cal 4130 aside for this comparison pricewise, we have the Omega 9900 and the Breitling B01which are better chronos in my opinion and less expensive than Zenith as well.
learning about chronographs, I finally found my future grail! alot of it thanks for your channel the Hamilton intramatic chrono is so beautiful, specifically the off-white panda dial with white trimming this is the watch I'm going to buy when I finally graduate college!
Looking at 2022 with the watch market slowing down, I can see the Zenith on display for sale. Even can get a discount with it. Meanwhile, it is still not possible to get a Rolex Daytona in retail, it's not even on display for most of the AD. This already speaks volumes about the status of Rolex. Panda Daytona is the most iconic Rolex for a reason. At this point, Zenith looks like a brand that is chasing other watches now, first this chronograph, then the AP look alike Defy.
The zenith is a damn sexy looking watch. The ONLY thing I don't care for is the date. It just throws off the dial aesthetic in my opinion. The rolex/zenith history is always interesting to me.
The Zenith is gorgeous and beautiful, and it’s more accurate. However if I’m looking down and see 1/100th of a second, it seems way to fast and just watching it seems almost to much. I’ll be curious if owners of the zenith would let me know if they felt the same way?
I’m a watch guy, so to me the two pieces do not look anything alike. Perhaps I’m just too keen on chronographs and the aspects of their dials but even the ceramic bezels have different registers.
My advice. Buy what truly speaks to you. If you feel like you’re “settling” for the Zenith, it’ll be a waste of money because every time you look at the watch you’ll wish it was the Rolex. However, if you’re not affected by hype, the Chronomaster is an amazing piece and a much better value buy than the Daytona. Don’t let others influence your decisions and buy for yourself.
Also, if you're one of the fortunate ones who is able to actually source a Daytona from an AD, then its a great investment. I can't imagine if someone actually had a choice between these two watches, at retail price, they would choose the Zenith over the Rolex Daytona. I'm sure someone will chime in and say they would though. ;)
He for sure hates Rolex. The Zenith looks better IMO and you can really admire the movement with the Zenith. I would choose the Zenith if given the choice unless I got the Daytona at msrp.

Even tho i own a daytona, it is so overhyped at this point, i dont like wearing it. Alot ot folk wear a replica, kinda kills it for me. The date function missing on the daytona kinda bugs me also.
Been eying the Zenith El Primero for a while. The reverse panda is absolutely stunning! Rolex is getting their you know what handed to them. Omega is making great strides to take them on as well. But, many people want a Rolex just because it is a Rolex and that will take some time to dethrone.

The Zenith CMS is an amazing piece of engineering and beauty. I traded in my Speedy and another EP on mine and it is the only piece in my collection that I can say will never, ever leave my collection.

I managed to get the white faced Chronomaster Sport. It’s simply brilliant and shouldn’t be overlooked.
The Zenith is way more sophisticated in the treatment of the 3 sub-dials.

I thought that the screw down pushers made zero difference to water resistance? It's just that it stops you compromising it if you push them in when around water.

Audio narration is heavy on the bass. I know it changed a while back but its lost its clarity to me, also the colours look desaturated like they've been offset or the gamma has been adjusted, a bit of a hazy grey layer to it all.
I've decided that the Zenith El Primero Chronomaster Sport is my grail watch. Thanks for all the info! I look forward to saving for it.
My 65th Birthday is approaching, I have been a watch collector now for 18-20 years. I own 36 pieces currently. The Rolex has been on my radar last 2-3 years. Loved the Daytona ever since I first laid eyes on it many years ago so I’m not going to pretend that Daytona was my Ultimate “Grail” Piece. After following the Zenith the past Year or so I have now changed my Mind, all things considered, the Zenith is absolutely a stunning piece. With its long history and beautiful dial , I am now going to get myself this Zenith and round out my collection with this beautiful watch. Thanks for this video, really helped me make my decision.
I would argue though that the Omega Speedmaster is the most iconic chronograph to have ever existed, Daytona a close second. The Daytona is the most desirable simply because of the crown on its dial.
I am impressed by Watchfinder's camera's ability to magnify and focus. Can anyone explain why specks appear on parts under the crystal? Such as on the red part of the centisecond hand in the Zenith and on the crown emblem in the Rolex. Are these impurities in the airspace or imperfections from manufacture? I have also noticed such specks in close-up videos of a few expensive watches--and I usually do not look so carefully. Is this as good as watchmaking can be or are such specks considered glitches?

Usually like Rolex, not in this case the Zenith is a superior and more classy watch. Rolex are becoming far too tacky with nothing to back up the premiums. I love the older Rolex's but won't be eying up there newer models. Superb job by Zenith.
Rolex is for those that think they've made it and want to show that off. I have Seikos, Hamiltons, Omegas, a Zenith and Tudor, among others I can wear anytime and never feel like I'm trying to prove anything

@Nils Eik put it at 3:00 or 6:00, but you really can't do that with this watch, so I would prefer no date.
I have 2 questions what is the bezel made of and if the watch experiences issues who can or will fix it?? In Canadian dollars this is a thousand dollar watch and this level of watch can easily find tech support for service or repairs.

I never understood the rabid lust that many had for the Daytona. I will admit that when I saw the all black version in pictures a few years ago, I was quite impressed with the look upgrade that came with the introduction of the ceramic bezel and thought, “they finally made a version that I can appreciate”. Before the ceramic bezel, I wouldn’t have glanced twice at a Daytona. I even found it unpleasant to look at.
A couple of things still annoyed me about the Daytona though. The bright red “DAYTONA”, the dated look of the round edged hour markers that are only amplified by the crisp sharpness of the minute & hour hands (one of the best hands by Rolex in my opinion), the “paragraph” of text with its squeezed narrow font… Not to mention the lack of a date. Something that I find is a must for an every day watch, that is only excusable by an aesthetic so mind blowing or an exceptional movement so as to tolerate that “fault” (the Openworked RO comes to mind).
As for the Zenith, I have more respect for the name than I would ever have for Rolex. I have yet to add one to my collection. Even though this Chronomaster is a lovely timepiece from a pioneering watchmaker, I would still prefer my first Zenith to be the Defy 21.
The Zenith has a mystique about it that I have never felt about a Daytona.

The zenith is a great watch, but please, 0% chance its production/existence reduces demand for the Daytona.
I may be in the smaller camp here, but I genuinely prefer the Zenith. The tri color sub dials sitting behind that sapphire are the epitome of class in a glass...an elegant yet understated pop of color. Add in the 10ths of a second chrono on a watch that is available and several thousands of $s less expensive and it's almost a no brainer for me. If the Rolex is the itch you need to scratch, go for it, but for me, the Zenith is the objectively better proposition.
Just when this zenith watch value is about to drop (slightly), this video pumps it up!

What bothers me a lot in the watch world is branding... Watches are not so obvious hobby, not everybody even knows that Zenith exists or even Patek or AP. People look at every watch that is a diver like it's a Rolex knockoff (cause they are not into watches and know what they think they see). You can drive Audi, BMW, Benz or Porsche, even old once and people would say it's a good, expensive car if it looks good. But for some people that I know a diver is a Submariner, chrono is a Daytona. You can rock your grandfathers Day Date Orient Rolex look a like with pride and heritage, but they will always see a Rolex knockoff... People act like Rolex invented watches, invented date, day and everythink in the world...

The Zenith’s chrono measures 1/10th sec/sec/min while the Crown measures sec/min/hr. Not a small difference

I have never been a fan of Rolex though I do like the looks of the Daytona, Omega and Zenith are preferred. It is not a matter of the cost but of the overall style.

Hello, I was wondering if you could confirm if aftermarket straps that were made for the Dayton such as Everest bands curved lugs would fit well on the zenith el primero?
if I want a Daytona then I want a Daytona and not a copy of the Zenith name. That doesn't mean that Zenith is a bad watch, not at all, because prices and availability have come very close at the moment.
All chronograph is like that but rolex With out zenith she didnt know enythink about chronograph as she didn't know what is a tourbillon.What is rolex this moment is because Zenith.If you buy a rolex you must first thanks Zenith.But also as chronograph,zenith is better also.

I believe the El-Primero still has a lateral clutch & single balance cock. Just leaving Rolex cal 4130 aside for this comparison pricewise, we have the Omega 9900 and the Breitling B01which are better chronos in my opinion and less expensive than Zenith as well.
at 1:16 the minute marker at 12 on Zenith does not align. i have wanted to buy a zenith but the qc is suspect.

Looking at 2022 with the watch market slowing down, I can see the Zenith on display for sale. Even can get a discount with it.
Meanwhile, it is still not possible to get a Rolex Daytona in retail, it's not even on display for most of the AD. This already speaks volumes about the status of Rolex. Panda Daytona is the most iconic Rolex for a reason.
At this point, Zenith looks like a brand that is chasing other watches now, first this chronograph, then the AP look alike Defy.

It bothers me that the chrono hand on the zenith is missing a spot of red paint on it.
The zenith is a damn sexy looking watch. The ONLY thing I don't care for is the date. It just throws off the dial aesthetic in my opinion. The rolex/zenith history is always interesting to me.

The Zenith is gorgeous and beautiful, and it’s more accurate. However if I’m looking down and see 1/100th of a second, it seems way to fast and just watching it seems almost to much. I’ll be curious if owners of the zenith would let me know if they felt the same way?

I’m a watch guy, so to me the two pieces do not look anything alike. Perhaps I’m just too keen on chronographs and the aspects of their dials but even the ceramic bezels have different registers.

Reason 1: the zenith is a significantly better watch, especially at the purpose for which it is intended.
My advice. Buy what truly speaks to you. If you feel like you’re “settling” for the Zenith, it’ll be a waste of money because every time you look at the watch you’ll wish it was the Rolex.
However, if you’re not affected by hype, the Chronomaster is an amazing piece and a much better value buy than the Daytona. Don’t let others influence your decisions and buy for yourself.
Also, if you're one of the fortunate ones who is able to actually source a Daytona from an AD, then its a great investment. I can't imagine if someone actually had a choice between these two watches, at retail price, they would choose the Zenith over the Rolex Daytona. I'm sure someone will chime in and say they would though. ;)

I like this El Primero but I prefer the previous models without the bezel. I their dials , looks classier and seems like a better deal (even after the price increase)

Been eying the Zenith El Primero for a while. The reverse panda is absolutely stunning! Rolex is getting their you know what handed to them. Omega is making great strides to take them on as well. But, many people want a Rolex just because it is a Rolex and that will take some time to dethrone.
