Inspiring stuff August. We all know you are a great tree-man, but I believe what draws many of us to your channel is the fact that you are a genuinely good man and a wonderful ambassador for this community/industry... Keep up the good work and I hope your back continues to get better each day..

Hi August, I had one accident too many, resulting in a busted spine. I was a luck one as I was able to walk, in constant pain but able to move. What you said about sitting, standing and leaning forward etc I have empathy for you and your mission statement has made you stop, listen to what your main core values are and live by it. This was something that whilst in hospital twenty years ago feeling down and in pain etc that our nursing staff mental health people discussed with us. Ending up with our own mission statement, our aims goals etc, Questions the same ones you sated family, church along with how do you gain your confidence back. We all on release from hospital stated what we aimed to achieve, in living as full a life as one could. Six months later we all met and most had achieved their aims and goals. I had to retire from work but I ended up volunteering for charities, became a Street Pastor and went out down town at weekends aiding those who were in need of help and were vulnerable. Still in pain, Family stronger than ever and still doing loads of charity work living that Mission Statement and yes you are allowed to laugh and joke about how you feel whenever you wish. Stay true, Stay Safe and keep those video's coming. You are like family as we all invite you into our homes entertaining and enlightening us all. Thank you and God Bless you your team and your family.

Rarely it's just about the tree work August. There's always a cerebral/introspective/motivational aspect to your videos. I feel a lot of us strive to be better everyday, but need focus to be consistent. You use the word deliberate often and I think that's pretty appropriate today. Oh, by the way the crane picks were good too. Thanks Jeff and Damien today for the camera work and color.

It’s exciting to hear you say that you get something new out of reading 7 Habits every time you pick it up. It’s amazing how that happens. It does for me as well, for more than 30 years now.
Hard to go against your own self defined mission statement, isn’t it?
The days you take to just talk with us about philosophy and God and Family are some of the biggest reasons I come to watch your channel.

Excellent video. Crazy Oak removal. That would be a dangerous climbing/rigging affair. Ideal for the crane. Nice work on the rigging for the crane (Damian). Some very nice balanced heavy loads came off. Very impressive. More on impressive is your running dissertation on your interaction with the book, "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People". Wonderful that you put that out there.....Stir the pot......inspire your subscribers. Keeping the mind busy with productive reasoning is as important as physically working the skeletal/muscular parts of the body. I had rhematic fever as a youth (8-10 yrs of age). So, maintaining a structured life plan was important for me from the git-go. Not always easy, but necessary. I have worked/exercised my mind and body a lot of years....right up to now at 76. I try to spread the word by mouth and example whenever I can...try to inspire. I try to follow the big 10....although I have failed at times. But I'm feeling good, capable of doing what I love (Adventure Guide Service & Have Spurs Will Climb) and loving my wife, family & friends (and my Llewellin Setters, Zane, Cider & Zez). God Bless You.

August, I'm glad you know there's a sizable group of like- minded " fellow feelers" here in this YT space. I don't recall what it was that hooked me & lead me to your channel, especially cuz I'm a 48 yr old hard working women down in Texas, who doesn't cut trees down..,but actually I think it's this type of video you post, the ones where I feel as if your chatting with us directly. No other YTer truly speaks directly, every time, to us. I think this video expressed exactly why your so appealing....all along its Bern your core values on display in every video. I can go back to older videos and I actually do watch older ones alot....and I see & hear the same guy. Of course, bits of us change over time, but to wrap into this video, your core values, the true inner August has always and still is right here. ......I hope this rambling makes sense. #FellowFeelers

Here's mine. Do not fear mistakes because mistakes are how you learn and grow. Try not to burden others by your mistakes. Accept pain and grief as the way to learn how to relate to the pain and grief of others. And thus learn humanity. Learn not to be distracted (by cell phones or idle chatter) but live in the moment of your own awareness and attention to the job you are doing. Try to do better each time. Patience is a virtue. Practice it especially when it is hard. Eventually you will learn wisdom and humility because we all end up the same place when it is all done.

As a person who has had four back surgeries now over fifteen years I can definitely relate to the constant pain of a bad back but I still work everyday and then some like yourself but I've noticed over time that the more I move and work every day the better I feel. You could lay around and complain but that gets old and not many want to hear about it anyway so I still keep it going and live. Your perspective on how to live life and set goals and live by them is good to hear. It's way too easy in this hectic world we live in to forget the simple things and we take for granted that everything will be OK and work themselves out but what it comes down to is believing in our creator and he will lead us right but we have to take the time to except our roles in making it happen. Be safe out there my friend.

One of the reasons I like this Channel is I like learning about Tree Cutting, and watching very skillful Arborist take down Trees. The other reason is I struggle to follow Virtue, and discipline myself. I think about Death as well, but brush it aside, because it's not always pleasant to dwell on,but I believe that when it's your time you'll go regardless of what your activity's are. So big Oaks and Ash with Hawthorn, Blackthorn, some around Roman earth works where trees were felled, charcoal made and pots made.
Big fires every day and as the sun set and the Crows come in to roost we sat around the fire, philosophised and talked about back pain. this reminds me of that time.

August, I cannot speak for other core subscribers, but will say this from my vantage point. Sharing ones pain…emotional or physical is not ‘complaining‘ …If your back is hurting you-please share how it is working you over - permitting us to exercise empathy and compassion and possibly companionship. Pain is real in the physical realm and reverberates emotionally and will inspire socially. Commiserating over the scars we wear like old leather gloves is - in small doses - educational and healthy. It makes it real. Living with truthful intent along the fault-lines of your committed values is what creates a ‘trust brand and trust equity’ with the world around you. Purge/Purify/Persist…Kind regards to you.

I don't normally offer medical advice, but from my experience, and seeing others, I want to tell you to avoid chiropractors and find a good physical therapist. My back was messed up in my first job fifty some years ago, moving heavy appliances. It was messed up and I was having migraines from it. My parents sent me to a chiropractor repeatedly, and he would pull and crack, then have you come back and do it again. A friend who was becoming a physical therapist asked to look at my back, found the place that was out of place, and spent an hour massaging my back and fixed it without any pulling and cracking. Fifty years later, I still have no problems with it. PTs aim to fix you and wave goodbye. Chiropractors want your repeat business. Best wishes. You inspire!

August, I've been watching as much of your content as I can over the last several months and learned so much. Within the last year or so I have been watching a lot of content, and doing research about climbing, cutting, and rigging techniques for tree removals. Your content is the best I've seen. I just wish I had found out about you and Monkey Beaver prior to purchasing my harness and most of my equipment. I do have a set of monkey beaver suspenders for my Petzl Sequoia SRT harness. Once I can afford to I hope to get a Speed Line Kit, and a Monkey Beaver 2.0 Harness. I do not have a tree service, or anything to that extent, but it has quickly become a passion for me. I love the challenge, solving the puzzle of dismantling the tree safely, without extraneous detriment to the surroundings. I have done a few removals now for friends and family, as well as one for my church, all for free or very minimal costs to cover fuel and equipment, but I definitely still have a lot to learn. I have been in residential remodeling and construction my entire career, and now I am a Construction Director working for the local Habitat for Humanity affiliate where I am able to combine my passion for construction with my true passion for helping others. Your message in this video is fantastic, bold, inspiring, and so many more great things! I've also watched your video "to find God's will on your family channel- also great stuff! Old saying, you can only do one thing at a time. No matter how you lie to yourself that you can 'multitask'. Do one thing at a time and do it well! I am sorry you are hurting! Back pain is tough to deal with.
Fly the plane, operate the crane, play the drums. One thing at a time, ONLY!
Good book, I read it! From the fire service, 'is it my emergency? No! Slow is smooth and smooth is fast!

Hey august. I’ve had issues in the past specifically in the winter time too. My saving grace was lifting weights. Specifically squats, deadlifts. You might want to try that out…obviously start light and work your way up but these work outs are really good at firming up and bringing things together. Worth a try. Cheers mate.

    I have said it before.
    You always lead by example.
And I have consistently been inspired by both your tree work technique and your authentic, deliberate introspective exploration.
You present us the world from your perspective, and you also present the world within the world, also your perspective.
As tree workers, and as male humans, we have many layers to relate to each other.
    Authenticity facilitates connection and communication.
    I am thankful.
So much to be thankful for.

Very much so, on the same page. Summed up your whole video. Very watchable. Very listenable. For many years I've begun every task with the end in mind. Lots to relate to in your words. Very inspiring. Thank you for sharing. I'm not a tree guy, but a tradesmen. Everything you mentioned has some sort of relatively in all service industries.

Its not complaining when you're objectively describing the situation you are living and how you are getting through it, it might really help someone else in a similar situation. Back issues are a major drag, I went through it in my mid 30s in a big way. Flight training hours stuffed in a C152 was definitely a big contributor. I got to a point where I couldn't do squat for a year and the psychological impact is everything you describe and more. I ended up in surgery for a micro-discectomy, woke up cured and have stayed at 95% or better ever since, nearly 20 years now. I'm sitting here now with a ripping case of the flu but any day without back issues is a great day, I hope you get on the other side of it soon.

Great comments, I so appreciate your channel, not just for the tree work. I hope to see you back in the pilot seat again soon too, I miss those flying videos:) I’ve read that book also, it’s been a long time ago, but I remember those points. So trying to think about what I would respond…I need to worry more about relationship; than perfection. I tend to work and expect a lot from myself from everyone around me. I’ve already missed a lot in life from not seeing the forest through the trees so to speak. My wife tells me that I’ve gotten a lot better, but that just means perhaps that I have a long ways to go. I’ll be praying for your back. I’ve been memorizing Psalms for the last year, go to psalm 4 tonight. It’s awesome, probably because God is awesome!

But I had never been to a church and started going to church and I am doing Bible studies and it has help me so much! Just in weird ways. Your mission statement is spot on!!!

Your comments better than music and well done cutting the voice-over with the action. It is not "complaining" to tell your friends what has happened in your life and why your activities and abilities are currently limited. Keep moving as much as you can, the body is pretty good at repair.
