  • Experience the Jesus Story Here: • The Jesus Story
As I explained last week, statistics consistently reveal that in America the final quarter of the year is the most expensive. More money is spent from October through December each year that at any other time of the year. Obviously, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas drive consumer spending up during the last quarter of each year. So it seems prudent to ask a couple of questions regarding our spending at this time of the year. Questions like-“Whose money am I spending?” and “How should I be spending it?”
Jesus told a story to teach His disciples about His kingdom that is commonly called “The Parable of the Talents.” In this story He clearly taught that everything “his servants” possess is actually “his property” that has been “entrusted” to them. He began the story with these words, “…it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his property to them.” (Matthew 25:14, NIV). This fact obviously places Him in the position to establish guidelines regulating how “his servants” spend His money.
In the Bible God reveals six broad categories for spending His money: Tithes, Taxes, Basic Needs, Debt Repayment, Inheritance, and Surplus. During last week’s lesson we examined what the Bible says about the first three-Tithes, Taxes, and Basic Needs. In today’s lesson we will explore what God says about Debt Repayment, Inheritance, and Surplus.
