Some lighthearted humor during the Holidays! If it wasn’t obvious all the tips in this video are completely absurd and satirical. With that said, how quickly will you be implementing these tips?!?🤣🤣🤣🤣
The ironic thing for me is that my 14-24 mm has been stuck on my D750 for over a year now, so I've been following tip number three for quite some time now. Great bit of comic relief!
Hilarious Mark, I had to keep checking the title because you were so sincere in your delivery. You could have done this as an April fools. But I''ve got a great tip for you, never buy expensive Polarizing and ND filters, simply stick your sunglasses to your lens cropping out the frames should they get get in shot.
Another mistake I often see is people thinking they only need one mule to haul their medium format camera and accessories around when we all know it takes a full team.
Mark I would be very surprised if you don't get an Oscar for this performance, it was brilliant. There must of been so many takes to get the keepers with a straight face for the 9 tips......I mean suggestions.
This video is epic... How you manage to keep a straight face is beyond me! 🤣🤣 Away to throw out the tripod now that I know I don't need it! 😆 Have a great Christmas and all the best for 2022!
May be the tips work for him. It's all about personal choice. Amateurs should have tripod nd trust me wide angles r jst for mountains. Cropping photos is a good idea though but it affects quality. So everything is personal choice.
His purpose is to manage time. For landscapes it's not easy like portraits. We have to depend on natural light and environment. So the quicker you are the less is the chance that you miss any opportunity. For example, golden hours run very fast and if you are entangled in camera settings then you will miss the opportunity. So it's all about when to use tips and when not to. It's like suggestions and not rules.
And the 2021 Oscar goes to Mark Denney! This was fabulous. After following you for years, I frankly don't even know how you pulled this off. Man, this was absolutely hilarious. Without a doubt your very best video to date!
It’s a great to realise I had been doing this photography thing absolutely 100% correct when I first started and have got worse over time. Back to basics then I guess. 👌👍
Its confirmed! Im throwing away all my tripods and saving up for that 1mm super wide angle and I'm going to be a professional shooter! Running around taking pictures of anything and everything around me and never having to worry about changing lenses or zooming in ever again! 🤣😂🤣 great video Mark!
Epic! Thanks for all the great tips, and I'm delighted to say that I believe I am already highly skilled in a number of these techniques! So pleased that I am mastering the art form of landscape photography. Thanks for all the entertainment this year and all the valuable lessons. Happiness in the New Year. Lindsey
I have thoroughly enjoyed all your videos, Mark, but this one... I was literally laughing out loud throughout the video. I don't know how easy it was for you to conjure up that much sarcasm (you don't strike me as actually being that way) but you nailed it. This was great. I am so glad I can stop wasting time trying to learn that ##$!!&$# triangle! It was kicking my butt!
There is actually a recommended technique for breaking through ruts in progress to think of the wrong way of doing things and then consider the opposite. I enjoyed this.
I came home for lunch today, turned on the TV and quickly saw your video. Clicked on it as normal (not reading your title or paying close attention to the thumbnail) and started listening to it as I was eating. It took a couple of "tips" before I really started paying attention and thinking what the heck are you telling everyone!?!? Then after seeing the next tip lower third pop up I realized the spoof. I laughed the entire video! Good job - I was not expecting this from one of your videos.
Wow! You were on fire Mark! I didn't get half way through your tips before I realized this was going to be the best landscape photography tips video I'd ever seen. I will be a better photographer for having viewed it. Thanks! And Merry Christmas Santa.
I’ve been a photographer for a lot of years and have always been too embarrassed for years to ask my fellow pros these important questions that I should have known the answers too!!!!!!! I’m going out at noon today with my new 1mm and nothing else, and just shoot, shoot, shoot because you’ve energized me with this brilliant video. Thanks and Merry Christmas!!!!!!!!
Sitting in hotel waiting to board a train and trying not to get sucked into news apps on my phone because another pro photographer writes that it has negative impact to creativity. So went for a UA-cam video by a photographer I subscribe to and the result was to laugh my ass off! Mark was amazingly convincing that these were good tips to do. Had to keep reminding myself that this was an inventive and creative approach to remind us the things not to do! Great video!
Lol! I never thought you had such a crazy sense of humor! It was difficult to try to remember this was a 'spoof' - you pulled it off so well. I also hope your lovely wife can help out more often; I always feel bad thinking how many double trips you have to do for each video - just to make a good video for us!
Great humorous video. Reminds me of one evening in Alaska when I was feeling more lazy than normal, took the camera out of manual and switched to night landscape for a few experimental shots. I was pleasantly surprised at the results and enjoyed knowing that even the features I never use work reasonably well.
I liked the repeated inclusion of “Kodak” in the list of “major” camera manufacturers that invested tens of millions of dollars in those innovative features that take the pain out of making all those decisions required to produce a digital photograph! The insinuation that portrait orientation meant that people had to be included in the shot was also hilarious. Good job, Mark!
If you want a boring location, come to the oil fields in West Texas! I can’t find any where within a short drive that’s worth taking a picture of. I needed this video. Lol.
Going out on a limb here, but I am willing to wager that you are the only photographer with a UA-cam channel who has tackled this most difficult and intricate topic. I appreciate how difficult this was to do. Mark, I can't tell you how much this has inspired me to get me camera out and try these amazing suggestions; er... I mean tips! Hey... I just read some of the other comments. This was a joke?
I especially liked your suggesting to use a wide angle lens for everything and how telephoto zoom to obtain more intimate compositions can be equivalent to cropping in as much as you can. That was good 🤣 and you really looked like you meant it.
Regarding One N Done: Every fotographer should instantly leave the spot when some people coming closer. You cannot allow them to spot the good spots to shoot.
First: Your enthusiastic sarcastic voice is a dead ringer for Jason Sudeikis. Second: Having it put so sarcastically really drives home how stupid I am sometimes thinking I can buck sage photography advice. Finally a photography video that gets through to me! Third: Brilliant video.
Stellar work Mark, I couldn't stop smiling as each tip came round, then spent the next few minutes disassembling what I had just heard to balance what I "Thought" I already Knew. All The Best to you and Your family, and above all Thank You.
I loved your "wide angle rant"! My dad urged me ( as a kid in 1960) to "do your best to fill your negative with your subject. It will make a better picture". funny to listen to your delivery of that idea.
very clever mark. another chapter: always put horizon line in the middle of the composition. it shows an even balance and avoids having a foreground of interest; that's so over rated. along with that (bonus tip): always have main subject in the dead center of image. this is the "bulls eye" rule and replace "rule of thirds".
Haha great concept for a video Mark , love it . I get joy and information from your videos and look forward to 2022 . Best wishes to you and your family , enjoy your Christmas break
You forgot the best money saving and most controversial tip. Gear doesn’t matter so buy a used Sony A100 (have to have IBIS) to pair with the ultra wide zoom. There’s tons of room to crop in and make the perfect composition in post.
been binge watching your videos for the past several weeks, and i am going to say this is flat out my favorite one. i wonder how many newbs are going to take this information to heart and actually use these tips. hahaha. that being said, with your experience as 'photographical teacher', i could tell how difficult it was for you to even say some of these lines... goes against all the knowledge ingrained in you!
Great video. I sold all my gear, bought a lot cheaper camera with a wide angle lens with a good pair of hiking shoes. And indeed you are absolutely right. Now I make the worst landscape photo's ever
This is amazing, but I LOVE all of the video mess ups you made too! Coming from a video background, I noticed this was going to be good from the opening shot!
Excellent video Mark, you described my photography to a "T" - due to my age and somewhat limited capabilities I often shot out the drivers side window with the motor running, my foot on the break, thank God for VR!!! When I arrive on location I'm usually pressed for time, so I take a few snaps and move on - I'll figure it all out later when I get home in my post processing. I rely heavily on the camera computer to solve most of my issues. Mark you are the best at what you do - I really enjoy all of your youtube videos!!!
Dear Mark.. I think you might get into trouble in the landscape photography world.. Giving away all the photography secrets.. Today I used auto mode for the first time.. I was a bit nervous about it but it took my image's to the next level.. These tips are next level.... Brilliant video mark.. Has to be the best video of the year
Don't forget- Those landscape long shutter speed shots when the wind is blowing 30MPH +. You can't beat the results on those photos. Merry Christmas from up US 1 in Raleighwood. I really enjoyed this video.
While only just having time for a quick peek at this video, I decided that it was worth a cup of tea settled into a comfy chair! The first 2 ½ minutes I managed set me laughing! So I’ve saved this for when I have tea, chair, likely the cat and time to appreciate the craftsmanship of a master at work! 😆
Oh Mark! By Tip 3 I was almost falling off my chair....thank GOODNESS I have watched your videos for a good long while and I get the humour.....just very funny, thank you, very refreshing!
This was a blast to watch and I bet it was a lot of fun to do. Probably a little cathartic as well! The only thing that would have made it better would have been a 10th tip instead of nine. Because, as we now know, it's all about the numbers and more is better than less.
Mark thanks for the enlightenment! I will take all your words to heart. The thing is I have done my share of making some awful landscapes on my own, but you have helped me refine my technique. Thank you, brother!
Haha.. very good Mark - actually was laughing to myself watching this...made a nice change & good to see Mrs D making an appearance at the end...👍 keep up the good work/ vlogs & thank you.
Tip #10. Spray and pray. Best advice for landscape photography just put the camera in high burst mode and let er rip! Seriously though, great tips Mark, I'm going to sell all my Fuji lenses, tripods and keep my Kodak for outdoor photography.
This messed with my brain SO HARD. My brain interprets your voice as "educational good info man talking, we learn the things from this man. Believe everything he says". You completely threw me into a spin even though I knew it was a spoof. 😂😂
Briliant Mark. The worst think on this is that your causes for doing it sound very logical and in some moment on split second I say for myself - it is right. Maybe you can put photo on each mistake so it is more illustrative. Nice and fun video.
And focus is highly overrated. No need to fuss over that detail ‐ with a wide angle lens, something is going to be in focus in your frame and that's all that really matters.
Some lighthearted humor during the Holidays! If it wasn’t obvious all the tips in this video are completely absurd and satirical. With that said, how quickly will you be implementing these tips?!?🤣🤣🤣🤣
hahahah
You should have added some horrible landscape photos as an example for us, beginner photographers 🤭
97 photos and 35-40 keepers !! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
NEVER! LOL... great spoof! Thanks for laughs!
The ironic thing for me is that my 14-24 mm has been stuck on my D750 for over a year now, so I've been following tip number three for quite some time now.
Great bit of comic relief!

But I''ve got a great tip for you, never buy expensive Polarizing and ND filters, simply stick your sunglasses to your lens cropping out the frames should they get get in shot.
Definitely need to be included in the next video as tip #1! Love it. I just might try it next time just to see what happens! :))
Great content, these tips took my photography from a 7/10 to a 3/10! Still got some room for deterioration though!
Hahaha your comment cracked me up 😂
Hahhah! Don’t give up - you’ll get there!!
I'm about 2/10, so these tips will hopefully make me better if I go up to 3! :D
May be the tips work for him. It's all about personal choice. Amateurs should have tripod nd trust me wide angles r jst for mountains. Cropping photos is a good idea though but it affects quality. So everything is personal choice.

Mark, I had no idea you had this world class level of sarcasm welled-up inside :-) Well done, super enjoyable!
It’s a great to realise I had been doing this photography thing absolutely 100% correct when I first started and have got worse over time. Back to basics then I guess. 👌👍
I think this upload will throw the algorithm into confusion by suggesting this to people looking for tips and guidance to get BETTER LOL.
I have wasted so much money in non wide angle lenses...
Epic! Thanks for all the great tips, and I'm delighted to say that I believe I am already highly skilled in a number of these techniques! So pleased that I am mastering the art form of landscape photography. Thanks for all the entertainment this year and all the valuable lessons. Happiness in the New Year. Lindsey
Laughter is the best medicine. And we haven't been doing this enough lately. Thanks Mark. Happy Holidays to you and yours!

Good fun! I employ these methods all the time!
I've no idea how you kept a straight face during this whole video. This deserves an oscar.
I came home for lunch today, turned on the TV and quickly saw your video. #10 Using a flash always for Landscape. Lights up the foreground nicely.

I think he is making fun of us newbies who are looking for genuine advice. This video is an IN joke. I just want to cry.

Had to keep reminding myself that this was an inventive and creative approach to remind us the things not to do! Great video!
Thanks for explaining how simple photography really is. Probably the most over thought activity ever. Merry Christmas Mark!
Lol! I never thought you had such a crazy sense of humor! It was difficult to try to remember this was a 'spoof' - you pulled it off so well. Came here to say this!
No Pentax??? 🤭🤭

Jeff, are you still inspired?
I especially liked your suggesting to use a wide angle lens for everything and how telephoto zoom to obtain more intimate compositions can be equivalent to cropping in as much as you can. That was good 🤣 and you really looked like you meant it.
Well done Mark. Not just a very funny vid but a masterclass in hyperbole, hyperbole being a very effective teaching tool.
Regarding One N Done: Every fotographer should instantly leave the spot when some people coming closer. You cannot allow them to spot the good spots to shoot.

I was just about to write the same. 😁
Great Video, Mark, I loved the way you kinda ironically 'blowed a fuse' in this footage, I had a lot of fun! Keep going with this mood! Lovely!
What a fun video this week. If only it was that easy. Loved the humor and meeting your bride. Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Haha great concept for a video Mark , love it . I get joy and information from your videos and look forward to 2022 . Best wishes to you and your family , enjoy your Christmas break

Thank God! Finally someone who tells it like it is!
Very very well done!!!!! Thanks Mark for something out of the ordinary!!!
This is amazing, but I LOVE all of the video mess ups you made too! Coming from a video background, I noticed this was going to be good from the opening shot!
Excellent! You seems really convinced by what you said. Thanks for all this valuable anti-tips. I'll try to follow them!
Watching you trying not to laugh as you made your way through the video was priceless
Great video Mark always love your videos. Hope your and your wife have a great Christmas
Thanks, it works for me since I can correct it all in photoshop instead of outside in the cold.
Very funny, Mark! I appreciate your humor. Very convincing on your tips and delivered with such smooth authority!
Great presentation style. Thanks for bringing a smile on my face.
This was amazing Mark!! Happy Holidays :-)
Something very different and a great way to point out bad things to avoid. Funny and informative! Great job.
Very creative Mark, well done!
Nice change of pace, Mark. Happy holidays and see you in Oregon in October!
Love the channel!!, Thanks Mrs. Denney!!
Excellent video Mark, you described my photography to a "T" - due to my age and somewhat limited capabilities I often shot out the drivers side window with the motor running, my foot on the break, thank God for VR!!! Mark you are the best at what you do - I really enjoy all of your youtube videos!!!
Priceless! I wonder how many people noticed that you took off the lens hood and filter at the very beginning of the video.
Ahh, what a relief to hear a confirmation of the path I am pursuing in photography ;-)
I totally enjoyed this well done video.
Dear Mark.. I think you might get into trouble in the landscape photography world.. Giving away all the photography secrets.. Today I used auto mode for the first time.. Very enjoyable. Best because there is a grain of truth in each of them.
Don't forget- Those landscape long shutter speed shots when the wind is blowing 30MPH +. You can't beat the results on those photos. Merry Christmas from up US 1 in Raleighwood. I really enjoyed this video.
Big thanks Mark sharing your pro-photographer secrets
While only just having time for a quick peek at this video, I decided that it was worth a cup of tea settled into a comfy chair! The first 2 ½ minutes I managed set me laughing! Solid, bro. SOLID. Great video which earned a well deserved laugh!
This is really groundbreaking advise, thank you so much, this will take my photography to the next level.
Mark,
Thank you for validating my photography style.
This was a blast to watch and I bet it was a lot of fun to do. Probably a little cathartic as well! The only thing that would have made it better would have been a 10th tip instead of nine. Because, as we now know, it's all about the numbers and more is better than less.
Imagine someone discovering your channel and this being the first video they see 😂
Right! I was thinking about that the other day
Very entertaining video. The best I have seen in years :-)
Also great to meet mrs Denney!!
Good stuff, Mark! My fav is Eyes Up :)
Mark thanks for the enlightenment! I will take all your words to heart. The thing is I have done my share of making some awful landscapes on my own, but you have helped me refine my technique. Thank you, brother!
some very useful and usable tips there to make different photos........
Finally! A useful video on this channel. Thanks ;)
Haha.. very good Mark - actually was laughing to myself watching this...made a nice change & good to see Mrs D making an appearance at the end...👍 keep up the good work/ vlogs & thank you.
Some great thoughts there Mark. I'm not sure if you are 9 months late or 3 months early, but this would be a great April 1st video.
The most sensible video yet
Tip #10. Spray and pray. Best advice for landscape photography just put the camera in high burst mode and let er rip! Seriously though, great tips Mark, I'm going to sell all my Fuji lenses, tripods and keep my Kodak for outdoor photography.

:))) made my evening !! thanks, Mark !
Brilliant video, absolutely loved your approach. Gave my huge lol moments including kodak .
Briliant Mark. The worst think on this is that your causes for doing it sound very logical and in some moment on split second I say for myself - it is right. Maybe you can put photo on each mistake so it is more illustrative. Nice and fun video.
You made it so believable LOLOLOL! great acting skills. well done!
Many thanks for this video! I tried your techniques today and they work even if it wasn't the brightest of days! They turned out Terrible! :)
been watching you for 4 years this is the first time i hear you so ANIMATED lol
Hilarious. I don't know how you kept a straight face. Can't decide which was the best - so good. Happy holidays to your and your family.
hahahahaha the title ...your videos are always fun to watch ....love your content
Thank you thank you thank you, such wisdom and insight: now I understand why my landscape images haven’t.
Worked out right.
Hilarious video! Now here is a challenge: get a decent photo while using as much of those tips as possible.
I loved the part where our eyes are on the top of our head. I dare anybody to watch this without laughing
Mark, you’re a bloody legend, mate. Loved this!! 😄🦘🇦🇺👍
I wholeheartedly agree with the comments. Good job!
Also the 9:41 slip was genius.
Very sincere delivery, would love to see the images taken too
And focus is highly overrated. No need to fuss over that detail ‐ with a wide angle lens, something is going to be in focus in your frame and that's all that really matters.
omg, I had to watch this twice , so funny :D ! thank you for this video
Excellent video. Totally different approach from routine. Very much justified. I liked them Mark. 👍
