Get better results by authenticating your Mailchimp domain in GoDaddy

- Do you want better delivery rates for your #Mailchimp email #marketing campaigns? These instructions show how to authenticate the domain you use for sending from Mailchimp where your domain is hosted by GoDaddy.
Authenticating your domain is one of the best things you can do to get better email marketing results. Mailchimp give you the CNAME record details that you need to add to your DNS host. Gary, a Mailchimp certified partner, shows you where to get the domain details in Mailchimp. Gary then demonstrates how to create the necessary DNS CNAME records in #GoDaddy. This is a once-off and doesn't need to be repeated.
Once you have authenticated your domain then you'll notice less emails going straight to spam folders (such as your campaign test emails) and you'll notice better open and click rates for your email marketing.

this is the only video that managed to get me verified - you don't need to copy the entire host name, just the domain key part thanks Gary!

Excuse me, I'm new at this. I watched your video and have poked around on mailchimp and godaddy FAQs, help files, and community forums. Unless I'm mis-reading, which is highly possible, it looks like in my situation you would not want to authenticate the website. My website is hosted by GoDaddy and I purchased the URL through them. I ONLY want to use mailchimp for email campaigns and not my domain, or host. If I authenticate step by step as your video teaches, do I risk messing up my Godaddy website?
Hi Jamie, to use Mailchimp you must provide a sending email address (usually an email address using your domain). Thus, it helps to add a record to your domain noting that you are using your domain to send email from Mailchimp. Adding the Mailchimp records to your domain in no way influences the domain records for your website.
I worked on this on Feb.1. Everything went through and was approved, but every time I get into my email campaign it is alway asking me to authenticate my domain. Do I always have to do this now every time I open my email campaign?
If you have already authenticated your domain you can disregard the repeat messages.
Hello Gary - I have set up the sub-domain which has been successfully verified. I'm now in the process of authenticating the sub-domain. We already have CNAME records for our parent domain so I'm wondering if the CNAME records that Mailchimp sent me for my sub-domain are necessary since they are identical. In fact, I couldn't even add them to my hosting platform because they already existed. Is this common for Mailchimp to send the same CNAME records when trying to authenticate a sub-domain?
Typically you'd also need to add the CNAME for the subdomain. The Mailchimp CNAME requirements are the same for domains and subdomains.
Hi, Gary! Before I watched your video I entered k2._domainkey.(my domain name) into my GD DNS. Will adding my domain name as shown in MailChimp instructions cause problems? Can you please tell me why you only input k2._domainkey. By the way, it's been over 24 hours and it still has not propagated. 🤷🏻♀️
Hi Kristine. You shouldn't need to add your domain name and it shouldn't make a difference whether you do or not.

What about sub-domains? We already have authenticated our main domain, but now want to send from a sub-domain. Will we get new CNAME records for this sub-domain?
The CNAME records provided by Mailchimp for the domain will also need to be added for the subdomain.

After trying to do this and getting no where I realized that you can not link a domain with the free version of Mailchimp.
Hi Tina, please explain further what you are trying to accomplish. The free Mailchimp account allows you to add your domain (mailchimp.com/help/verify-a-domain/#Verify_an_email_domain_on_the_domains_page). You are then able to authenticate the domain if your use GoDaddy for your DNS.
@@GaryEckstein Thank you, I guess what I meant to said is I can't verity my email because it's a gmail and is a from a free provider. We have a domain from Go Daddy that we purchased separately just to use with MailChimp landing pages. I may need to see if Wix (it's where are main website is built) has a feature for landing pages that can link to Mailchimp.
