- Samsung's The Freestyle projector has just launched at CES 2022, boasting standalone streaming thanks to Tizen 6.0 OS. It's one of the most compact, portable options out there, boasting a rotating design, instant auto keystone and focal correction, flexible connectivity and 360 degree sound.
Thanks to Samsung for sponsoring this hands-on The Freestyle video, you can find out more at: www.samsung.com/uk/projectors...
If you're after a mini projector in 2022, this is definitely one option to keep an eye on. It's tiny and light at just 830g, but also rugged. The Instant Setup feature means you merely have to point The Freestyle at a wall and the keystone, levelling and focus are immediately automatically sorted on your behalf. That bright 550 lumens picture can be clearly seen even in quite light rooms, with Full HD visuals boasting punchy tones. And you have respectable built-in 360-degree audio too.
Note that the detailed specs of the sales product may differ from the pre-production sample.

How can you not show this thing being used in a dark room? That's how you are supposed to use it!
Agree. The picture looked like shit in the video if you asked me.
Was thinking the same.. not an accurate representation of it
Seriously. That image did not translate well to what he said and not an image you won't to showcase on something that is nearly $1k.
Frustrating this is not uncommon on these channels. They care more about their lighting than doing the product justice.
@@DKVR Considering he got his hands on one the day after the CES reveal means he likely doesn't want to upset his free product relationship with Samsung ( one of many mind you). This review IMHO seems skewed. How on earth would you not show atleast one shot in total darkness???
Correct this product muat be used in dark room
"Crystal clear" and "punchy colours". Yet the picture looked really dark and washed out! I'm looking forward to the real reviews rather than all of these paid promos that Samsung has paid for on UA-cam this week. It sounds like a cool product but picture quality is key.
Watched this with my Kiwi mate. He cracked me up saying he needs subtitles for your vids. Legend!
Coz in New Zealand they don't speak English hahahaha Kiwi Accent is very weird
As a matter of fact the native language is not English
Me: Wow, looks pretty cool, sounds good too.
Price: £600+
Yeah, not sounding quite as good any more. Don't personally care for all the other features just considered them a bonus but that's one expensive projector otherwise.
£600 for a projector is on the low range of how much they get up to. Proper 4k projectors can hit way over a grand.
@@ElectrofizzStudiosCo They also look MUCH better than what he showed in this video. I've had a 3k dollar 4k projector, I just cant get over the blacks or in most projector's case "greys". I fell in love with OLEDs
It actually has only 230 lumens (checked on Samsung product website), paired with a 5W speaker and a resolution of 1080p you get very overpriced piece of crap. For that price you can go with a much, much better projectors.
@@zoran123456 True, exactly.
@@zoran123456 I don't think this is even designed as an alternative to normal projectors. From what Im seeing this is mainly designed as a portable projector you can take on the go and easy to set up at all kinds of angles. Think camping trips / travel / small apartments etc.
One of the cutest I have seen beginning of this year, fine design like a marble statue 😃 spaceship vibes.
I'll wait for a review with full specs and testing not an infomercial.
Honestly yeah
My benq w 2000 is far superior and portable ,I took to the mates house the other night just stuck in down turned on great picture ,
There is one online already. Look for it!
@@ilsommodante5636
Link to it or STFU! Most of them have been sponsored by Samsung and are NOT reviews.
@@jonq.public5892 look for “the hook up” (you clown)
I hope it has good short throw abilities because when placed at a desk that screen is just too small.
Maybe I’ve been spoiled by Ultra Short throw projectors/Laser tvs.
Great video by the way, comma however the price is completely ridiculous for nothing more than a small projector, cost will kill it....
Does the freestyle have a screen reader for browsing the apps and menus?
Does it have HDMI ARC/eARC? Can you use it with home theatre system?
I wouldn't be surprised if some way down the line when this Freestyle has sold enough units we'll see a new bigger brother to the freestyle offering more. I'll wait for more reviews and tests before convincing myself to get one of these. Or perhaps even wait for the second gen of the Freestyle. I'm in no real rush to own a projector, especially at this price. However, the stand design is a great feature.
what's the max size of the screen? can it replace standard LED TV (85'')? I am thinking of buying a projector for the usual standard watch, but this one seems very less on lumens, that's means I need to make my roomer darker every time. Any other affordable projector?
When content creators get sent products for review then it's hard to take them seriously. I miss UA-cam from the old days, like 12 years ago when there was none of this product placement. People actually purchased their products and made a simple video on it in their back bedroom. Because it was their own purchased product, the review was honest and people weren't looking for 'Likes'.
+the removal of the dislike button leads to people blindly trusting the (paid) reviewer.
Yeah this video is barely above worthless.
Here’s my short review. Pre-ordered it because of the cool functionality. Was excited to get it. Auto-framing didn’t work well. Was quite washed out with any kind of light or significant distance from the wall. Software was buggy. Reboots and slow moving through menus. No way worth the price with the limited lumens and lack of included battery power. Went back the next day.
There is a dude on UA-cam that gives an honest review of this and comparable cheaper alternatives. If I buy another it will be one of those. Probably the XGimi Halo
Does it have a speaker output so you can hook up a more powerful speaker?
Hi is it inside some ventilator? If not that's good, but is it devise really hot when you use? And how much power it need it? Lets say i have 20 000mah powerbank how long i can use it?
If they cut the price in half, it would be a great choice. Imagine using it as external monitor for work, entertainment without cramping up room space. Hope they add a button to switch between master devices without having to connect manually everytime.
Have you googled it recently :)
They have now, free battery if you order direct from Samsung too 👍 just snagged one
@@AutoAbsolute how is it? Resolution and sound? For how much you got it?
@@mnreddy6443 it's pretty good to be fair. I paid £499 with a£650 discount (£500 off the projector and £150 off the battery)
@@mnreddy6443 I'm coming from an Anker nebula. At this price it's a very good buy, any cheaper and I would say a steal.
Have just unboxed, have watched for a couple of hours. Assuming the room is somewhat darkened, not a lot, I was incredibly impressed by the picture, I am currently looking at about a 65" image. It looks simply brilliant. Brightness varies according to source and the source's source (news programs for example) but it is frankly better than I expected from the specs. The resolution is plenty good for my taste but I'm not a gadget guy attuned to all of the nuances or picture quality. I'm looking forward to having a try at 100". It can be a little laggy with the remote control but it seems to depend somewhat on distance and position. The automated keystone feature was at first disappointing, I expected it to have a bigger range for adjustment but once accepting the limitations and positioning the device closer to center, not projecting at too severe an angle, the keystone function works pretty well.
Price-wise I compared this purchase to the purchase of two high spec, large screen Samsung or LG TV's for our place. Saved me at least a grand and I can use the projector for multiple situations, like having 3 or 4 devices.
But it's early days, we'll see if it sustains it's appeal after a couple of weeks of use...
So have had device now for a couple of weeks. Like it even more now having adjusted to its quirks. Have projected image to 120", 20" more than the spec, amazingly good picture quality especially in a darkened room - brilliant!
@@LosPonitex Since kevin compared it to a large TV and is happy with it - I guess you can.
@@charlietunathethird would recommend this projector...after using good few months??
Hows the sound? And can you connect headphones via Bluetooth? Thanks
Hello. How was it performing after 1 year. Please update. Thank you😊
The automatic keystone adjustment seems cool, but using it as demonstrated will knock the resolution down probably below SD as it's only using a small section on the panel, so try and get it setup straight on as much as possible. Also 550 lumens isn't going to give anywhere near enough brightness once you move it back a bit and make the image bigger. I can see this quickly becoming a £600 bookend as it would soon be forgotten.
Got one today! The image is really clear! Does anyone know how to flip the image for back prohecting screens?
Great review as usual Chris.
BTW Chris, what watch are you wearing?
@tech Spurt 550 LED l/ 230 ANSI lumen seems really low for normal lit room. In the promo videos they show this as lifestyle projector with lot of outdoor activity. for the advertised lumen the outdoor ambient light will kill the brightness of projector. Not sure if i am reading something wrong
Nope, you are right. Tech Spurt stating the image is pretty "clear", given his lighting setup, is pretty disingenuous. With the projector that close to the wall, the washed out image shows it isn't "clear" and will be terrible 8ft or more away. The low lumens output is a deal breaker, especially for a $900 projector.
Dude, I bought a 3500 lumen projector for less than $100
I think he says 550 Lumens.
@@arihantjain2432 ANSI lumen is what matters
@@eric8530 yes nothing shot indoors with dark gloomy where a tv's black would be superior
My husband bought this for me for Christmas and I love it. However, it does heat up pretty good and if you're in a standard 10x10 room it will heat it up. The navigation is nice, but again as with most projectors it still can look a bit dull if you need to project from a distance (ex: backyard to house wall for movie viewing). I use it for painting murals on walls and it's fantastic and sleek.
Can you use it as an alternative option for a TV?
@@jab4634 Yes. This is probably designed mainly for that reason.
Does it need an AC to work or can do the job on battery only?
@@jab4634 it doesn’t have a built in tuner. It’s not so great at streaming either to be honest.
@@jen.g3384 it has no tuner built in. You can get some Internet channels however the connection is choppy due to the poor cpu/wifi and integration with TozenOS
Nice review mate can it be used on gaming console? I hope they can invent something like 4k 120hz on console in projector.
Could you connect the sound to a bluetooth speaker? Or a full audio-system with toslink?
Looks great !! Have missed seeing your videos .. hadn't watched them for a few weeks!!
For 100 inch how far back you need to keep the unit
Looks interesting. I've got a Sky Q box. Will it link with that?
What battery pack did you use?
Hi, got a question: From a compatible Samsung phone, could you use DEX wirelessly?
I also have the same question. I guess you can use it if you connect an hdmi cable to the phone. Not sure for wireless. Otherwise i think only the simple mirroring is available.
Can this be mounted on the wall or ceiling?
Does it work with a Game Console Chris ?
It seems a very nice product. I would want to buy one once it launches instead of buying a tv, since I'm moving to a new apartment with a still empty white wall. So I do have one question for you: is the image good during the day without closing all curtains or do you need to be in a dark room?
Projectors are not as nearly as good in light rooms as TV's but there are some projector screens they you can buy that are supposed to make projectors more visible in light.
Yeah it looks nice but idk if its worth it if the image doesnt do well in well lit rooms
Better off buying a TV tbh, performs much better in well lit room & the projector probably will be more expensive.
Get xgimi elfin. Half the price twice as bright
For best results - use with nearly dark room ! I have a 1500 lumens projector & the picture gets washed out with bright daylight coming through the windows - doesn't stop you using it anytime, just close the blinds. I think there are better value options out there - this seems a bit expensive for what it's offering.
i wonder how it compares to the competing portable projectors like the ViewSonic M1+ and ViewSonic M2
Thanks. For a product that is supposed to replace TV and trad projectors, this review is incomplete with some sort of side by side comparison with a TV or projector. But perhaps because it is sponsored, we will wait for independent reviews.
Check more reviews online chief.
It's not a review, it's an ad sponsored by Samsung
i dont think its meant to replace tv / trad projectors... the point is that its portable isn't it?
what brand of foam sound absorbers are you using? Thanks
I love how the commercial makes the image look way more colorful and bright. The washed out look that a projector gives is always disappointing. The portability is what I love about this but does it heat up your room or make any noise, like a fan?
It's clearly stated that this video is sponsored by samsung, don't expect it to tell much about the cons. Actually on those kind of video the rule of void works pretty well. If he did not state that it's "super silent" that probably mean it's pretty noisy.
it'll probably be making noise, after all this is a projector
@@lolaa2200 What annoys me is a sponsored video should NOT throw objectivity out of the window. That's bloody ridiculous
@@Airbag888 well it "should not" but in practice it does. Just ask him to make public the sponsorship contract, you will be amazed at how precise it is, how many time the name of the product have to be repeated some exact sentences are mandatory, some contract even state the precise timing (i.e. at 105seconds in the video you must prononce the word "XXX") ...
That's how youtube sponsorship works nowadays.
So objectivity ? Well by contract they engage not to be.
@@lolaa2200 Thanks for the insight. And while it seems extreme, I'm not surprised. That's why we should condemn such youtubers in my opinion who are playing the game of greedy corporates
But can an iPhone/iPad or a windows PC wirelessly connect to it?Or is that function limited to android?
Hi, did it support the Chromecast feature?
Maximum projection size vs distance vs resolution vs contrast.?
Can u connect external speakers with it
Can we connect soundbars through HDMI ?
How long does the bulb last?
How long does the lamp last? Any idea how much cost a new lamp?
Looks a great bit of portable kit. How good is the picture quality when the screen is expanded too 100 inches? TIA 👍
Viewsonic m2e vs freestyle ? Whic one do you reccomend?
What is the largest size you can make the image and still stay sharp?
Will games consoles work with this?
100inch
Up to 100 inches. Up to.
@@69tijs thank you! Wow this thing looks really impressive. Maybe in 5 years time it will be affordable.
Get a Xgimi halo. It has 10 watt speakers, higher lumens, great picture and the same size as this. Also $100 cheaper on Amazon
can i use it with an iphone? And can i connect it to the wall to use it longer than the batterytime?
how would you airplay your iPhone when there's no internet or wifi connection during camping?
When it projects "happy birthday", is it projecting just the writing, or the whole 1080p "screen"? Is it possible to project only the pixels of a logo or perhaps a round image?
I think it must project the whole screen. I guess anything black in the image will be as dark as it can get. If it 100% blocks the light, it would effectively just project the pixels of the logo or a round image (assuming a black background).
Can you hook up a speaker to it for louder sound?
Any word on availability? I heard it has low refresh rate. Maybe the next version might come with 4k support!?
Great bit of kit.
How many hz is the screen projected? Does it vary?
60fps
How is the resolution for documents excel sheets and presentations
Lol The Way Of the Househusband as his phone wallpaper 😍
Drinking game: take a shot every time he says "dinky".
I'm 100% up for that
it looks very good!!!
Can u connect sky q box and a sound bar?
does thing have internal battery?
I want to buy this instead of a standard TV but not sure yet, is this possible?
Can I connect my home theater to it?via hdmi mini?or connect a ps5 or 4 to it?
Can you help
Us pls? We are having to set focus and screen size everytime we turn on is there a way of setting and fixing size and focus? Thank you
Awesome vid I just brought one waiting for it to come
This is great for a single apartment dweller that I can take room to room and not have to mount a tv as wel as gave a bigger screen than I could afford in a television. I don’t watch live tv or need cable because I stream so it perfect
How many hours does the bulb last?
Can the audio bluetooth to external speakers? Headphones?
Is there a HDMI port for firestick connection?
It connected phone? Are without phone? If connected ,phone s8 plus suitable?
This would've been more helpful if you showed us picture quality on darker room. Meaning, more realistic use of this projector
Great video. Will it connect to an iphone. How much does it cost ? Do u have a link where to get it ?
Does Dex work on this?
I've just got the freestyle projector but there's some reason with mind there's a purple line around the outside of the image and it's flickering
What would you think of it without the backhander?

Release date and price?
Does anyone no what catchup services are available?
Is it clear resolution ??
there are so many queries with this gadget that I would need to be absolutely sure about before i got one. Some of those queries I'm not sure have been covered such as is it wifi or bluetooth enabled? Wifi can be pretty bad in some places even within my own home which would mean its use is down to about 45% in my own home let alone using it as a remote device. The contrast didn't seem quality either. If i am going to be spending some of my time viewing content then i want to view it as quality and not just 'put up' with something inferior. And jumping forward, if i am having to pay extra for streaming services then again I want that to be high end quality.
How many inches can watch clear picture like in UA-cam
Can you connect wireless headphones to this device?
how much is it ANSI-Lumens?
Great job samsanm!¡!!!
For full cinematic experience, it would be nice to hookup my soundstlystem. Is that possible? And if so, how would that work - Bluetooth, WiFi?, HDMI?
Cheers.
HDMI from projector into your amp/receiver. The other way would be firestick into amp/receiver and Bluetooth from that.
I bought a BYINTEK projector for $300, it’s quite good and works well with IOS and android. With the Samsung projector how long does the battery last? And does it work with IOS?
Byintek better than this, if native 1080p resolution.
