If you weren't aware of Taureor's _love_ of the naval game, you can tell by how much he knows about screening ships.
Ngl I've yet to even find a tutorial that'd explain ships in a way that isn't "this tutorial only works for X country and only in late war"

If you do the Habsburg Path as Poland, you could make Czechoslovakia form Austria-Hungary, then annex them. This will give you cores on all of Austria-Hungary as Poland.

I hope Paradox will give Czechoslovaks a new focus tree. There is enough monarchist sentiment there to earn its own path.

@@TheSetkon atleast they have strong buffs and an interesting challenge unlike the commonwealth countries (canada is pretty fun though).
When you get the peace conference with Ethiopia, you can puppet Oromia instead of Ethiopia in the remaining non-puppeted states to avoid any focus tree shenanigans

I'm so glad you enjoy doing these long playthroughs yourself! I remember back in 2016-2018 many youtubers would do long lets plays and either upload a episode a day (which is quite long winded for the creator but I enjoyed it) but now just do short 15-20 minute videos. When I see your videos over the 1:00:00 mark I get excited! Keep up the good work

Screening ships are submarines/destroyers/light cruisers.
And if a country has a capital ship (Heavy Cruiser, battlecruiser, battleship, aircraft carrier) for every one you take, you get that % of screening ships.
So say the USA has 50 capital ships, you get 2% of the screening ships (could be 4) for every capital ship you select. Or if you're demanding the navy from Argentina, they might have just the 2 capital ships, so you get 50% of screening ships for every capital ship you demand.
Rule Italia, Italia rules the... Lands
Screening fleet is all the DD and Cruisers if the nation doesn’t have Battleships or carriers.
If the nation has the classes mentioned above they comme with some of the DDs and cruisers.

TL;DR: In HOI4 screening ships are DD, SS and CL, in real life it's more confusing.
Since you were wondering. The terminology of Screening Ship is kind of obtuse, but in HOI4 it simply means ships that aren't capitol ships. So, submarines, destroyers and light cruisers. More HOI4 relevant stuff at the bottom after a long and fun wall of text.
In reality (at least in ww2 terms) a screening ship would most often be the size of a destroyer, but could theoretically be any ship as the task of a screening ship is to protect some other naval asset (not to be confused with an escort which also protects other naval assets). From wikipedia "Screening is a defensive tactic in which a picket or outposts are used to hide the nature and strength of a military force; provide early warning of enemy approach; impede and harass the enemy main body with indirect fire; and report on the activity of the enemy main body. Screening forces may conduct patrols, establish outposts, and help destroy enemy reconnaissance units." So, as you can see, it's not only a protection/guard duty that a convoy escort would do, but a more active and involved, requiring more training and requires better gear (such as higher top speed) than a ship that protects merchant vessels in a convoy. So, technically a battleship could be part of a screen in order to confuse the enemy into thinking it is the main force. But in most cases it is the role of smaller ships like destroyers, light cruisers, frigates, corvettes, and also submarines to some extent.
Back to HOI4: Taking fleets in peace conference normally works by taking a capitol ship and a % of the screening ships. If the beaten enemy only has 2 capitol ships and 10 screens you get 1 capitol and 50% of the screens. If it's 4 capitol ships you get 25%, and so on. However, if the nation doesn't have any capitol ships your only option is to take the screening ships.
Therefore, if a country has a total fleet of 1 destroyer it is kind of stupid to call that a screening ship since it's the only ship they have.

Hey! The Screening ships are the smaller ones like Light Cruisers or Destroyers, so when you demand them you basically get a spotting fleet or some random ships to defend your main battleships

A screening ship is any ship of a lower class than a heavy cruiser (light cruiser, destroyer, etc)

@@aidenbooksmith2351 It's pretty much that "Allies" in Portuguese is "Aliados", so "It-Allies" can be translated as "Italiados", which can be translated back to English as "Italied", and it's funny to think there is such a thing as a "to italy" ("Italiar") verb, and it's also funny to imagine what "to italy" even means.
