The Great Model Railroad Layout in Berlin with 9,680 square feet of model trains in HO scale

- This amazing model railroad layout in Berlin, Germany, with more than 9,000 square feet of floor space, was the world's third largest model railway exhibit. It opened on September 18, 2004 in Berlin, later it moved to the Alexa Shopping Center in 2007. Note, the last opening day was August 31, 2017.
At the beginning, 70 employees constructed this model railroad with a size of 6,000 square feet of floor space. Thereafter, the railroad display was taken down, moved and rebuilt in the new shopping mall. When the model train show was re-opened, the display was expanded to more than 9,000 square feet of floor space.
A large part of the model railroad presented places and buildings in Berlin. In addition, there were Berlin’s famous railway stations and sections of the famous Berlin Underground, also known as Berlin Metro or Berlin Subway. Also attractions such as the zoo, the television tower, the Reichstag and the Brandenburg Gate were presented. However, the model railroad layout was not a complete model of the city. The display was built in HO scale and included over 13,000 feet of railway tracks and 32,800 cars and much more.
The model trains, made by Fleischmann, Roco, Brawa, Gützold and Piko, were digitally controlled. For example, 30 computers and 80 cameras monitored the railway traffic. In addition to the trains, there were also model cars on the run using a system similar to the Faller Car System. Every 20 minutes there was night, so the lights of the houses became visible. Sorry, but during the night Pilentum could not take video recordings. In total, 30,000 LED were installed in trains, in cars and in buildings. Enjoy www.pilentum.de and thanks for watching.
I am flabbergasted! First I thought the starting scene of the video was showing the real Bahnhof Zoo, in order to compare it to the model! - The attention to detail is just indescribable. A real masterpiece. Superbly built!
Thanks for revealing visual details that would be missed by guests who see this layout . Excellent post. Thanks.
How great to see not only such amazing attention to detail but not only populace at large but drvers and passengers on trains. Theres too many "ghost trains" about in England. Excellent
Excellent video & a jawdropping layout of Berlin. Thanks for sharing
Breathtaking detail. Could watch this all day.
Outstanding in every respect. A wonderful representation
Спасибо PILENTUM!!!!👌👌👌👍👍👍
Wonderful video, lovely gentle exploration of the magnificent layout
STAGGERING, BEAUTIFUL, MESMERIZING, SO AWESOME I COULD SPEND DAYS IN THERE. THANK YOU FOR POSTING. AND ALL INVOLVED.
OMG, this is amazing. I had model trains growing up (Lionel and then later HO scale) and have always loved dioramas, but the size and amount of detail here is absolutely incredible--it's a whole other world! Wish I could have seen it in person😄
Model railroading at a whole new level of detail .. nice
Thanks for watching.
WOW I wish I could go there that would be amazing to play around with the trains
Knowing the Germans it's just another Automated "train set" !
These models are beautiful. Thanks Pilentum.
Great artwork beyond the talents of all that dream of something this fabulous!
I 💘 trains . something about trains draws out the little kid in all of us .
love it how everything looks so organized…
The attention to detail is amazing,,, Great job!
Thanks for watching.
Simplemente impresionante... Un gran trabajo :)
My top 5 favorites. Just awsome
The detailing of this layout is out of this world nice job guys
Amazing. Deserves way more views. Thanks for posting.

Great layout, one of the best
Superb. A dream.
Most impressive layout I have ever seen an absolute credit to the creatures great detail right down to the speed of the trains ,thank you for sharing.
Excellance is here.
That's awesome!
spectacular!
The speed control really adds to the effect. The motion of the trains is so smooth esp. when accelerating and decelerating and the running speeds seem scaled appropriately. I'm guessing this is all down to digital controls ? Something I couldn't even imagine when I started out all those years ago with my first train set, an N gauge Arnold with a small oval track. Things appear to have come a long way since then. Amazing layout and great video.
My goodness the size and craftsmen ship utterly Beutiful in every way I'm impressed Billy Santangelo L.I N.Y. USA
When I see the name "Pilentum", I know the video will be great!
Thank you.
YES !!
Absolutely superb
Molto ben fatto. Complimenti!
Sad that it is now gone!
Bravo Maestro! ! ! 😊Gmadlobt! 😊
Spectacular!
Lol never thought I'd see a replica of Bahnhof Zoo. Instantly recognized it from the thumbnail. Spent a lot of time around there when visiting Berlin. Unfortunately, it's not as clean as it looks here lol.
Everything you write is correct. But what do you expect from a station of the capital, which has no money in its city treasury. Have you ever visited the station in Hamburg or in Leipzig?
@@pilentum Yes, I remember reading about that. Regardless, Berlin is my favorite city in the world, and I’ve done a bit of traveling and there’s no place like it. On my first visit, it was kind of a dream come true to walk around Bahnhof Zoo.
Great trains miniature I liked so much and folow yours video great 👍
This would be excellent in O scale. Thanks again!!👍
PILENTUM Agreed..👍
This guy rules!
...beate uhse..echt super!!
Frumos , respectele mele !
Sencillamente espectacular
Bravo, bravo...
Wish there was a cab ride of this. Even if it was just a couple of shots
Impresionante.
Super model! Mersi Pilentum!!!
Wunderbar :)
Amazing I need to go there again to visit
Wer is it pls tell me
👍👍👍Gruß Konrad
This kind of attention to detail is why Mercedes last for a million miles. BTW, I got to live in Germany (Worms, and then Darmstadt) in the late 70s, on Uncle Sam's dime. The trains there were SO well-organized, the saying "You could set your watch by the trains" was not an exaggeration, it was a simple fact. Great wine, efficient systems all around, and having blonde hair, blue eyes and my last name helped me get along with folks just fine.
"You could set your watch by the trains" - These times are already a few years gone...
Why Mercedes used to last for a million miles.
Bizar mooi gemaakt!
LOXX was sold on ebay this summer. What will be now? Do you know the plans of the new owner?
The Minilin!
Felicidades! y saludos!
Magnifique, absolument magnifique, bravo !
I just want to know how in the world they keep all that track clean?? I would love to hear how!!
Very nice layout, but why is the catenary not used?
great to see these model railway layouts but my only wish is that some technology could be produced to give the starting and stopping a more graduated movement. A real train pulls away gradually and picks up speed but the models seem to start with a sudden movement. Maybe it isn't possible with such low voltage etc.
There are special decoders, which cause the soft start and realistic braking of the model trains. These decoders are very expensive, so they are not always installed.
Oh right, thank you for that. I thought there would be something somewhere to do the job in this modern world.:-))
Hornby did it with their Zero One controller, back in 1981, or it might have been even earlier - anyway, YEARS ahead of their time. It could individually control up to 16 locos all on the same track, each with its own, individually set level of inertia.
Are you going to record the new N scale layout that opened in Stuttgart?
Wow! B.P.
Just came across this video amazing work went into it is it still in Berlin?
Sorry, Paul, the model railway "Loxx Berlin" was closed in August 2017.
3:40-3:55 The train passes the closed semaphore (red light) and the light changes into green - looks like the traffic lights changes are random and not correlated with the situation. :)
Andrzej Pietrachowicz. Looks perfect as a model layout which cannot be exactly like the real thing all the time!
@@michaelgmoore5708 should be correlated. Semaphor Red light should make the train stop, it's also very easy
@@pawelgabrysiewicz646 Absolutely right! There should be a signal Нр2, which will change to Нр0 when the train passes. It is possible that this is not a DCC-error, but an electrical connection error. Just swap the wires! It is necessary that someone just tells the technical staff of the layout about this. It's okay))))) Even on small home layouts, there are such errors. I think this is easy to fix.
wow
Fantástica!... Inimaginable.... No distingo si los trenes son Marklin... Alguien los identificó?. Gracias. Saludos....
would be even better if you had mini cams in the drivers hud, and in the trams as well.
Unfortunately, I did not have my mini-cameras back then.
High-rise buildings are awesome, wish I had something like that on my layout. Are they scratch-built or factory kits? If they are kits, who manufactures them? And also, how to order them?
I watched old video of this train layout, for me its a lot more impressive than Miwula. Is very sad that is closed down. Are there known reason, why they shut it down?P.s.:Do you know about any Playmobil train layout?I found one video with playmobil train layout on youtube and it is pretty impressive.
PILENTUM This is that video ua-cam.com/video/q9E3DqiYNgY/v-deo.html .I only found this cab ride.
With this and other layouts, I see there is an extensive catenary network, but none of the electric locos are using it. Is it because they are using DCC and that may not be compatable with overhead wire?
They have permanetly closed in August 2017
Where is the maqueta hom,in this date 29- april-2020) Thank you
Wow, great where can I see more like this ?
As far as know, this railway had been called Luxx and has been closed two years ago ,or so. And it was not a real competitor for the Miniaturwunderland in Hamburg. I have seen them both....
Yes it was sold. Miniaturwunderland is still in Hamburg and is today the biggest turistmagnet there, well probably not today...
We’re Is that show I wanna go there i love trains so much
👍👍👍👍👍😅😁😀🌹
Why did the display close?
It was sold to two other permanent model railway exhibitions in Germany. Why - I don't know.
32:56 is it Talgo?
Sehr hubsch.
Does this layout consist of modules taken from Loxx Model Railway exhibition which had its premises in the Alexa shopping mall near the Alexanderplatz in Berlin until it went bankrupt?
The railway station Bhf. Zoologischer Garten along with the Hardenbergplatz in front of its main entrance is awesome.
I change trains there twice a day from Regio Express RE1 to U-Bahn Line 9, when not locked in at home in times of Covid-19.
Only the hilly forest like vegetation bordering to the north-western backside of the Zoo Station hall (i.e. Jebensstrasse in reality) is nonsense and looks awkward.
Fntasticá,precízna práca-super👍👍👍
Beautiful! But the electric locomotives circulating with both pantographs down, it's not that realistic..
sonicsnap117 I don't think anyone cares that much to even worry about the little things that do not matter. It is supposed to be fun. Just think of it as your toy trains!
Where is this place. Does it have a website i could check out and visit
I am sorry, but the biggest train layout in the world now in Hamburg dude.
3:48 oops
