As a figure skater I was personally REALLY impressed with Michelle. She took 6 weeks to oearn all of these moves from scratch while it took me aroung 1 whole year! Michelle really has made A LOT of progress in her skating.
Take in consideration that she already have body training like her flexibility was already enough for that routine and she had the pressure of learning for a challenge and also she was being trained by Olympic athletes, not saying this to make her look like her achievements were not important, but to let people that are willing to learn know that is not that easy and you will fall, cry, and work a lot to get at a near point, and you can’t give up!
@@Filmedbypassionateinpink you must be blind bro I literally said that i was not saying that to undervalue her work here but to let people that are new in any sport know that her situation is very different that the place that you will be as a regular beginner, and I know that she is not that flexible is not like I didn’t see this video but she was flexible enough to get to a skill good enough to pull this quicker
Well when you have a coach who has gone to the Olympics, spent an hour or two with them in a lesson, and skate nearly everyday, you can advance quickly. Also if you include off ice training.
Marsha’s story filled my heart with mixed emotions, it’s so sweet that she started when her husband died and held the memory of him thinking that it looked amazing watching a ice skater with her. But it’s so heartbreaking her husband died and that’s when she started that feeling must have loomed on her for a bit “why couldn’t I have started when he was around to watch” must’ve turned into “he is here watching me in spirit (if she’s religious probably something like he is watching down on me from heaven) and that feeling must send warmth into her while she skates. There’s passion from her blades sent shivers like he was right there with her happy for her and she could feel his energy with her ❤ it’s so bittersweet
Absolutely!! I spend a lot of time thinking I've missed my chance as a SAHM and artist, when my passion is riding. Then I see beautiful, graceful people like Marsha and the older equestrians in the Olympics and remind myself that there is still time for me to raise my kids AND live.
This video is the reason I started figure skating at 26! I just revisited it now, two years later, and I am beyond thankful to Michelle for giving me the confidence to start this. I suck, and I am reminded every time I'm on the ice that I suck but it's still really fun and I absolutely love it.
The first girl started on the floor, laying on the ground is a penalty to your score if you do it so their performances aren’t completely like competitive performances as they don’t stick to all the guidelines and rules
Imagine being Michelle’s kid in the future, “my mom used to be a runway model, miss USA trainee, figure skater, ballerina, nasa astronaut, etc.” THE SKILLLS
She advanced so quickly! As a figure ice skater it took me 3 years to learn a flip so the fact she made it in 2 months just shows how much she accomplishes and does for her youtube&herself
Ok but let’s be honest, she didn’t try to get any of her other jumps. You probably already had your salchow, toe loop and loop when you were working on your flip. And you had to do other things during your day like go to school. If you had two months of that intense training you’d have gotten your axel. Her achievement is impressive don’t get me wrong, but it’s not fair to you when you make that comparison.
She also said in some video that Buzzfeed wasn't going to let her do these types of videos. That they felt she already did enough of them or something along that line.
I just love how she’s so serious doing these kinds of things, not goofing around or playing. She respects what they do and is genuinely curious on how they do what they do.
I am 12 years old and I've been figure skating for 2 months now, and the reason I started was because of this video. It's the best choice I've ever made! I can do a crossover, walts jump and a few different spins already, (still learning). Thank you so much! You are so inspiring
Her speech about feeling to old to do things HIT ME. I’m only in my mid teens and yet I still constantly feel like it’s too late for me to get as good at certain things as the people who’ve been doing it since birth. Especially in musical theatre.
I feel you, I also am in musical theatre and I really like it but sometimes it is discouraging since I haven't been doing it for to long. But it's never to late to start ANYTHING. So keep going, if you love musical theatre don't stop doing it 😼
I learned to figure skate when I was 19. I was competing against kids literally half my age. Along the way I met a lady who started learning to skate in her 60's. You're never "too old", and it's only "too late" once you're dead. While you're still breathing, keep going. "Comparison is the thief of joy"
Halo Kay you’re suuuper young, im 18 and barely have time but im starting as well :) do not worry too much! you’re young, beautiful and have time to practice! i’m rooting for u, 🥰🥰🥰
dude same, im 19 and since im 13 I've been telling my parents that I want to train ballet, figure skating etc but they have told me "you're too old for it" its awful and discouraging
When she had a breakdown that's how I feel about things sometimes like seeing kids ice skate I feel sad that I didn't learn at a young age along with other things I could've learned.
i feel a lot like that too after taking years off of taekwondo for health reasons and now never being able to reach the full potential i could have had i not paused, i see kids breaking shit while doing backflips and all i can do well is flexible and i injured myself 2 months ago so i even fucked that up, but keeping a good mentality and training that muscle to be back in shape even if it takes more than 6 months is all i can do so i'll do it because that's all i have left to keep being good at my sport
You're never too old to start skating. And it's not very expensive for beginning. All of the skates and stuff she bought is what heavy competitors use. And there's a lot of things that you can teach yourself.
As a figure skater I would like to say how well you did , this was my favourite of your videos , people think this is easy but really it’s not . Well done! ( btw , I’m ten and a level 6 ice skater)your awesome, an inspiration and I love you.
The "I wanted to prove I could be perfect under pressure, but I proved that I could fall under pressure and get back up" really hit home. Super motivational
As a figure skater who has been doing it for nine years since I was three, I really don't think people are realizing at all how quickly Michelle advanced in only two months.
When she says ‘You rush it because you’re stressed out,’ I genuinely felt that. Because it’s exactly what I do. I did a competition a few days ago, and during practice everything was great, but I fell on a double toe because I rushed.
At this point you’ve done more things than Barbie Some things u should try (roller derby, cheerleading, diving, surfing, gymnastics, skateboarding, trapeze, horseback riding, cosplay, soccer) any add ons?
“I trained like a professional surfer” That would be really cool to see cause there is a lot more behind scenes like breath holding, working out, etc. It’s would be awesome to see you try tricks and stuff hehe
I wanna see this too! I went to a surf camp last summer, and I was so scared, but it was one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had and all I wanna do is surf more.
My favourite thing from this video - “I wanted to prove to myself I could do something perfect under pressure.. and what i learned was maybe I can’t do that, but what I can do, is fall under pressure and get back up.” - Michelle the most inspirational person alive.
She was so sweet too right after she comes up and is smiling like no tomorrow saying how fun that was and how proud of herself she was. I lived to have that level of confidence
Hana Marek she made me cry, women hold back so much to take care of their family. Once the husband dies, they dare to go out and do what they truly want!
Here's the thing I'm 13 and I feel like I missed my chance at doing things like martial arts and Sports and playing an instrument so I don't sign up and seeing her do figure skating is really inspiring and makes me realize maybe it isn't too late if she's able to do it maybe I can to
It's not too late! I started competitive Athletics at the ripe old age of 19, and now I'm international level athlete (I'm now 25). I'm not yet an Olympian, but I very well will be at the next games. You can do it, you may be too old for some sports, but in all the others you're still very, very young.
hey miss girl!! I'm thirteen too, and same! But this past november (december?) I started skating at my local rink, and I was scared for the exact same reason! But it is *SO* worth it to start skating, it's never too late! You should totally do it, I think you'll love it as much as I do!!
As a figure skater myself, one of the beauties of figure skating is being so nervous for competition. but the second you step on the ice fades away. It’s almost as if all your thoughts just disappear. And even after you get off the ice if it was your worst skate or your best, you should still be happy that you went out there and tried.
Holy heck, that talk of her discussing the whole "Am I too old" thing hit me hard. I've questioned that several times in my life and I'm only 18. I have thought about how so many people much much younger than me, and are so much more successful because they started at such a young age. It kind of makes me feel like I've wasted my life honestly, and that even if I started now I wouldn't get as far as I could starting young.
I feel you but you can do some amazing things I believe in you and your too young like just live life you know be happy 😊 ❤️ and believe in yourself because we never know when we gonna die so live it young ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Ayonix Animations I thought the same whey I decided to return doing ballet, then I realized that we decided the live we’re gonna live, and who cares? If you like it and you want it, you should do it.
I feel exactly the same way! I've wanted to ice skating since forever but my family couldn't afford it :(. Now that I'm in college and got a job, I told myself that while I'm still a teenager (19 btw) and still young I should just go for it because the longer I wait the more I'll regret it. Sure, I most likely won't get to the olympics or anything but imagine what I'll be like in 5 or 10 years time! I'll still be young. It's never too late! Marsha (the older lady skating in the vid) and Michelle gave me so much inspiration, I don't care if I'm the only adult taking the learn to skate lessons. We got this guys and girls and everyone in between! Go for it!
@@evab.6240 I haven't finished watching the video yet, but she is training for a competition, so if she gets anywhere from first to third place, do you know how impressive that would be to put on a resume? "Got 2nd place in a competition only after 8 weeks of training, not knowing how to skate prior". That's awesome!
@@aspannas Well I still think that is super impressive, I think it's great to have so many things on your resume because it makes you more attractive than someone who has been working at target for 3 years. She has experience in so many fields and people love seeing that.
Watching this as a Paralympic alpine skier I have to say it’s amazing how you progressed and it truly shows the lessons I’ve learned over the years. My specialty is slalom and one of the things you find out over time is that you will never have a perfect slalom race. No matter what you are going to make mistakes. It’s so quick and you have almost no time to think so all you can do is trust your own abilities to counteract any mistake you make. The hours of training and effort that go in behind the scenes for that one competition is something most people don’t see. There’s a lot of sacrifice and struggle as you push towards that goal. You have to sacrifice in order to push forward and it’s great to see you show even a small taste of what that is like. When I was in middle and high school I drove an hour and a half almost every weekend to train with better coaches than were available in my hometown. I don’t have any lasting friends from high school really because of that, but the sacrifice was worth it when I got to compete on that world stage for the first time. Now I continue to strive to be better and see what else I can achieve in my sport. Hopefully everyone else who sees this can use it in their own life as motivation to keep pushing themselves further than they ever thought they could.
As my ballet teacher says: Don't worry about falling! The floor is always there for you😂" Amazing job Michelle! Balancing on a single blade seems daunting!
As a former figure skater, a couple of points: Cold: You get used to the cold--I can't explain how besides that after years and years of doing it, you just don't even notice (until you get off the ice). Gear: Michelle mentioned getting really expensive gear; excluding blades and boots, you don't necessarily need the warmest clothes as you advance. If I had a hard session, I could easily be a t-shirt because I got so hot. When you are higher up (doing advanced jumps or spins), you just don't stop moving (and your coach is watching you even when you aren't in a private lesson!), so warmth is not the same factor at the beginner stage. Falling: It is TOTALLY true! The older you get the more scared you become. If you cannot start this sport young, it will be hard simply because adults know the risks (and your body is less loose). A fall that looks really bad to spectators isn't even that bad haha--you also learn where to place your body when you fall cause you've probably fallen on that ONE hip about one thousand times (or my personal favorite you body does a nice slliiidde across as the ice). My biggest recommendation would be to tuck your head in--do not let your neck snap back or you will end up with a concussion! Michelle did an good job! This sport is for the fearless, the determined, and the strong--I recommend anyone go out and trying figure skating or ice dancing (if you don't want to do any jumps or spins!).
It’s true once you warm up with stroking and a few jumps you strip out of your sweater/sweatshirt... I used to practice in sleeveless dresses, and I didn’t get cold. You only get cold if you stop moving! And your coach is always watching, even if it’s not your lesson! Get out there and have fun!
Falling as an adult is also scary because you fall from a higher distance then when your a little child. But I still can't get over if she would have just bent her knees it would have been so much easier for her !!
Re:Cold I dunno man... I don't think it was normal that she was freezing for so long. All I have is skating experience when I was young but even then I never was cold to the extreme levels that she was under. I think that definitely attributes to making sure you get good gear BEFORE you try skating. I feel like she got hypothermia :S
I relate to everything about this video, i am a 15 year old skating with 11, 12, 13 year olds and it is so humbling being the oldest one on the ice. You are such an inspiration Michelle, the way youre always pushing yourself and accepting every challenge. So much love from me
i’m literally in the same situation! i’m the oldest in my group and sometimes I feel really embarrassed, like I shouldn’t be here. I feel like I should be better by now and skating with girls my own age but It’s not something I can help. all I can really do is try my best and try to get the skills down so I will be able to test out of the level! I have to remind myself frequently that it is not a contest of who’s the best at the youngest age it’s about self-improvement. I sometimes forget these girls have been skating since the age of 5 and I’ve only been skating for one year. keep your head up and remember, you’re there to improved yourself and you will only waste time focusing on others
“I’m seeing all these 8 year olds execute everything perfectly” I felt this so much. I started skating late, and it sure it humbling when you see these young kids land a single axel and people around my age landing triples while meanwhile, me, a 15 year old is still doing the axel drills >.
me lmao i’m learning how to roller skate (i know, nothing like figure skating) but i see like 6 year olds in the speed skate when i’m on the rink and i’m like damn okay
Coming back to this in 2024 made me feel great. I’ve been on and off of figure skating for years and I’m now starting to really want to get into it again, and this helped a lot to see. Especially as a disabled person with leg ✨issues✨ seeing the 60 year old woman made me realize “hay! If she can do it maybe I really can do it!” One of the first things I learned about skating was TO fall. Conquer your fear and learn how to do it best. It’s better to know the pain than deal with the unknown. I’ve taken that with me. Lol If you read all that thank you. ^^
I love how Michelle doesn’t just butter everything up and hide the truth. She actually shows her mental breakdowns and shares how she is feeling at the moment even if it’s a negative thing. She really shows the whole experience, and I appreciate her for that :)
Amazing! And so inspiring. Gonna share this with newer adult figure skaters because you show what is possible even in just a short time. I also love when you said "What I can do is fall under pressure and get back up". Great philosophy!
She has literally inspired me to go above and beyond and not settle for things that I know I’m comfortable doing, but going out doing those things that I’m not comfortable doing and being great at it
“Originally i wanted to prove that I could do something perfect under pressure. And what I learned was that maybe I can’t do that. But what I can do is fall under pressure and get back up again.”
I'm 17 and wish I would've done some type of sport when I was a kid, so I often think I am too old to do stuff now too, but props to you Michelle for doing all these challenges, its motivating to see.
You're still young, my brother who is in high school, has never played a sport in his life but I encouraged him to join the tennis club because it will give him discipline and the sensation that you belong somewhere, year and a half later he is playing for the varsity team at this tennis club. Just give it a try to whatever sport you want to do , better late than never.
I've got addicted to ice skating over the last 5 months of my life, I genuinely find being on ice to be one of the most relaxing yet fun things I ever find myself doing, and ever since coming into uni almost 2 months ago now, I immediately joined the ice skating society and started routinely skating twice a week in hopes of getting to a decent level at figure skating... sorry for the needless exposition, but I think it's cause of that that I enjoyed watching this video so much. Genuinely the drive showed by Michelle, the highs and lows, the supportive instructors and the excellence of the progress had me elated when she won that silver 😭😭😭, 4 year old video yet it inspires me so much today, love to see it
@@liaruth9795 I'm young and thinking of learning how to skate so this is a good reminder that "the only way we can learn is through experience" ~ Lillith 2019
Hey Michelle after seeing this I am just in complete awe of your perseverance. Seeing you trying and trying even on your worst days inspired me so much. Seeing you fall and then get right back up and ultimately secure the second position made me realize that it's not how you did or how many people liked it but rather about the satisfaction that you had after giving your hundred percent on that stage. I know you are not going to read this but I just wanted to say that keep going and thank you for this Michelle. ❤
Same here. I mean, her Salchow was swingy and she didn't place her left foot right in the flip, but for someone who only just started skating, that's to be expected. I'm actually surprised they taught her a flip. I've been skating for a year and a half and I've learnt three-jump, Salchow, Loop and I'm learning toe-loop. I've learnt all the other jumps in my off-ice training but I've not started learning them yet. That being said, I haven't started learning flip yet, but I know exactly how to do it (at least off-ice)
Seriously !!! Like what she learned crossovers so fast! It took me 7 times to do basic 4 ( when there was still 8 basics) and like shoot she learned it so fast .
I’ve been skating for two years and I’m terrified of falling. It’s to the point where it stops me from learning more. I try to not be as scared and tell myself it’s okay but it still scares me. I hope one day I can get over my fear and work more on my other moves.
Lia Ruth dont worry! I’ve been skating for 9 years and I’m still afraid to fall. It’s a mental game and sometimes you have ur good days and other times u have bad days but that is what this sport is and it’ll all work out :)
@@anshi5098 I started at 12. Honestly, skating is one of the most physically and mentally tiring sports I've done /tried. There are times where youre just so ready to quit cause you arent improving fast like everyone else in your club or youre just not good as everyone else. Although, it's so rewarding when you finally land a jump you've been working on for months. I'd say try it. Even though (sadly) you're passed the age where you could go to the Olympics, there are adult-only competitions available. Try it out, like I said, skating can be one of the most rewarding sports.
@@eyeekou i'm 16 and looking forward to begin figure skating, i'm trying to convince my parents because the nearest ice rink is a little bit far, around 30 minutes if the road is empty. If I manage to begin in this year, do you think i'd be able to compete and all that? i hope to not be discouraged because of all the things i am watching, basically i know that patience is important and that falls happen and i am starting to slowly work on my flexibility. Thank you for anyone that read that.
@@sstrawberryprincess I mean, it's possible. There are figure skaters for the US (johnny weir) who started at 14 (i think) and won gold at the Olympics. It all depends on how quickly you can pass your skating tests and learn your elements. But yes, go for it, maybe you can reach the Olympics.
i’ve been doing figure skating for years and omg the feeling of getting too old when you see these little kids doing triples really does hit your self confidence hard

Well when you have a coach who has gone to the Olympics, spent an hour or two with them in a lesson, and skate nearly everyday, you can advance quickly. Also if you include off ice training.
I honestly look up to her as a skater of two years. What she’s done is incredibly impressive.
I’ve been skating for four years! Im barley learning my waltz’s!
Rainbow Gacha Potato what have you been doing these 4 years?
Can we take a moment to appreciate Marsha for teaching us that it's never too late to start anything? Love her!

She advanced so quickly! As a figure ice skater it took me 3 years to learn a flip so the fact she made it in 2 months just shows how much she accomplishes and does for her youtube&herself
how old were you when you started skating?
9! Im 15 now
Ok but let’s be honest, she didn’t try to get any of her other jumps. You probably already had your salchow, toe loop and loop when you were working on your flip. And you had to do other things during your day like go to school. If you had two months of that intense training you’d have gotten your axel. Her achievement is impressive don’t get me wrong, but it’s not fair to you when you make that comparison.

johnny weir started at 12 and now he's one of the most well known skaters so i would definitely say go for it:)
You can start as late or as early as you want i started when I was 4 but you can start a 13, 15, or 18 if you wanted
Its never too late just work hard, believe in yourself, and go for it
As a figure skater myself, one of the beauties of figure skating is being so nervous for competition. but the second you step on the ice fades away. It’s almost as if all your thoughts just disappear. And even after you get off the ice if it was your worst skate or your best, you should still be happy that you went out there and tried.
“why can’t i just be confident out the gate?” felt that
RIGHT? Ugh.
Same. I just started falling in love with ice skating and I really want to try it but the fear of "being too late" really hits.
And what I've learned at 30 is that its not too late and to start now
Ayonix Animations I thought the same whey I decided to return doing ballet, then I realized that we decided the live we’re gonna live, and who cares?
Go for it!

Wdym it’s easy
i like this guy, how he helped her when she was falling or about to. He laughed along with you, he made sure you were okay. He’s a good coach!!!🥳
As a former figure skater, a couple of points:
Cold: You get used to the cold--I can't explain how besides that after years and years of doing it, you just don't even notice (until you get off the ice).
By the end of most of my sessions I was in shorts and t-shirt cause I got so hot!
It’s true once you warm up with stroking and a few jumps you strip out of your sweater/sweatshirt... I used to practice in sleeveless dresses, and I didn’t get cold. You only get cold if you stop moving! And your coach is always watching, even if it’s not your lesson! Get out there and have fun!
wow
“I’m seeing all these 8 year olds execute everything perfectly”

I'm 17 and wish I would've done some type of sport when I was a kid, so I often think I am too old to do stuff now too, but props to you Michelle for doing all these challenges, its motivating to see.
You're still young, my brother who is in high school, has never played a sport in his life but I encouraged him to join the tennis club because it will give him discipline and the sensation that you belong somewhere, year and a half later he is playing for the varsity team at this tennis club. Just give it a try to whatever sport you want to do , better late than never.
@@jecours11 wow props to your brother!! I wish i could learn too but im just not good at sports 😅
Same :(
@@bryanna67 join the volleyball team , give it a try ;).
Sis if you can throw and catch a ball as well as run. Try softball

Mintie Lite :3 yess my new fave quote to think about when I step into the rink ✊
@@liaruth9795 I'm young and thinking of learning how to skate so this is a good reminder that "the only way we can learn is through experience" ~ Lillith 2019
Mintie Lite :3 yes you are absolutely right 💙
You should do “ I trained like a professional horseback rider” or “I trained like a competitive cheerleader” next
I would love either one of these!!
Yes to both, but especially the horseback riding one!!!
Equestrian would be awesome
ouu cheerleader! learning flips or tumbles!
Laiah Aguilar yeeees we need horse riding!!!
honestly as a figure skater we are definitely under appreciated
That’s right. People always think skating is easy bcs we make it look easy. They don’t see the years of effort put behind that ten minute performance
theia mina no for real though 🤦🏽♀️I feel like I need to prove myself more considering it’s not a black person’s sport
Gabrielle Francis I wanna start figure skating next year, buttttt..I’m black and I’m overweight. Which means I need to lose a LOT of weight.
Mhm I never really thought of it till now lmao 😂
Dude I do figure skating and I feel like I suck at it
I’m a figure skater and I can’t believe how much she has improved in such a little time
Dude same like how-
Seriously !!!
Her having her breakdown about how she felt old is normal in skating when you start later than most skaters. I had that same feeling when I started.
when did you start? I kinda am inspired to. But I think I'll be able to start next year, if being serious and I will be 18.
@NIKITA duggal omg thank you! Really needed that.
This video inspired me to start figure skating and I am now a gold metalist in my small town's rink! Thank you, Michelle!
i’ve been doing figure skating for years and omg the feeling of getting too old when you see these little kids doing triples really does hit your self confidence hard
Same!! I was a instructor and used to compete for years and now I’m seeing these young kids doing crazy jumps, it reminds me of the good ole days 😂
I saw a video of a six year old LANDING an axel I’m twelve and I’m still on axel exercises
@@hei1314 im about to turn 15 and im still on axel exercises ghfhdjaf
cherryblossom well I bet that you are 1000% better than me cause I look like a dying flamingo when I skate 😂
Heidi awww dont say that! i started skating when i was your age lmao its taken me 3 years to get to an axel
The only move I mastered is the burrito
AHAHAHAHA OMGGG

I’m a figure skater and I’m so glad you’re showing the true struggle we go through!!
Jessica R I’ve always had a lot of respect for y’all. As a kid/teen I used to roller/ice skate, so I have just the teeniest inkling of what it takes to reach a high level in that sport. And it’s very difficult.
@@susanmaggiora4800 thank you from a skater.
Yes, it is honestly so hard and I don’t even do it competitively yet. Best of luck! 🥰
Great thanks from a fellow skater
True, except that one of the only clips they use of Zagitova is a cross over.
Wow the ending of this video brought me to TEARS ♥️ so inspiring watching her journey. Watching all her the self-doubts just disappear when it was showtime… AMAZING 😭 thank u Michelle for being so transparent about all her feelings going through all the motions. She is such an inspiration to everyone to seize every opportunity learning new things. Watched her cheerleading video first then this one and seeing how much she has grown from doubting herself you can really see the progression of her confidence growing!! I am such a huge fan 😻 she is such a huge inspiration to women & all people everywhere - thank u michelle!!
The “skating for fun the night before the competition” part was so beautiful! Your heightened skills and confidence were insanely evident, and the camera work and editing were sick!
It was downright genius
“What i can do is fall under pressure and get back up” YES YES YES
Michelle: Did parkour, trained as spider man's extra, did figure skating, met famous people and trained with them.
Me: Existing😐😑
And you're doing great at it!
And that's a feat that is so often overlooked!! Thanks for existing!
