I was so sad and in shock I pulled my guitar out to change up my routine and climb out of the sadness. Within months I was playing 3-4+ hours everyday. Joined an online school and finally learned some theory. My skills have progressed more than I ever thought possible. I live for my guitar now. It's the biggest joy in my life. You are absolutely correct Brad.😊
I was dreading going to my day job this morning (and this weekend was kind of crap too) and I picked up my guitar and belted out a song and it helped. I was also thinking about a couple of years ago when I had a terrible day and, on my way home (I was riding a bike to work at the time), it just pissed down rain on me and you get that feeling like, "What the F did I do that the universe is just holding me down and punching me?" I got home, threw my bike down, got out of those wet clothes, took a hot shower, and I put on "Fun House" by The Stooges. Without really thinking about it, I picked up my bass (I love the physicality of bass - especially when I'm pissed off) and I learned/played along with very song on that album, which isn't exactly hard, but it's what I needed at that moment.
Another great walk and talk, Brad. Thank you. I love your positive attitude, and you bearing your soul. I remember just getting my anger and frustrations out, just rehearsing in a barn near Madison, WI with my first band I was the lead singer in. It was so great and awesome. I had just gotten sober after 10 years of being an alcoholic for 10 years. All of us guys, except the drummer, met in AA. Dang, I miss that. However, I need to buy a 🎤 and start singing again from home. Peace, sir.
Brad as an aging muso myself I'm reminded of that great song by John Miles 1976 simply called "Music' that put it so well "Music was my first love and it will be my last, music of the future and music of the past..." I.m still playing my guitars and recently took up the bass partly due to increasing arthritis in my fingers...in no time I'm pretty damn good at it and back in a band as a result. It keeps me young and motivated. Stay young guys and rock on!
I’m in my 60’s and I have played guitar, mostly by ear, since age 8. My wife and I have been a duo act for over 20 years, and have been living in Nashville for 10. We eat right, exercise, and we play ALL the time. And I will likely have to work a day job until I die. There is no money in music. Not that I’d be willing to live on. Has nothing to do with me playing. Hell, we got a single with video dropping 12.15. I an so hooked on your channel Bro! Keep ‘em coming❤
Jealous of your walk. We have -20 wind chills coming on Wednesday to Chicago. Enjoy FLA. 35 year guitar teacher here. I never tell my students to practice. I ask them to 'just play' for the love of it. I get amazing results.
I play guitar and harmonica friend once asked me what got me started i had a pretty rough childhood alcoholism and such and still today when i'm all stressed out i start playing and can feel the stress leaving body and mind its 100% therapeutic for me still 50 years later oh i'm a suscriber now just found this channel

When I get home after a really bad day, feeling ticked off and whatnot I always turn to music. Usually it’s the drums though that are the best for getting the rage out. I always play the drums so much better when I’m angry
You are always an inspiration. 2024 was a rough year for my family and me. It's been one of those years when one thing after another hits ya. Through all of it, I kept up with practicing my guitar and lessons. I'm glad I did. I had many days that started as a struggle, but before long, everything faded away, and it was just me and my guitar. I love when time disappears while you are immersed in playing.

@richotto100 - May the New calluses be smooth, pliable pads that serve you well. (It reminds me of way back when, someone said, wash & dry your hands Before you fret, then keep those fingers out of water, etc. for a couple of hours after fretting, while 'growing' those pads, whenever possible. Yet, lol- if you wanna practice/play Before you wash the dishes, or do chores- that's ok, cuz the callouses are there because of the fretting...)
@@richotto100 I’m usually a key player but do play some guitar. And I also lost all my built up pads. I picked up my acoustic and messed around for about 10 minutes and holy geez …..my digits were not happy .
I just ran across you this morning on my feed. I subscribed too. Really good words there. Music really helps me, and it can help you too.🙂 I've been playing guitar since I graduated high school 50 years ago. I played trombone from fifth grade to 12th. I was in Marching Band, Concert Band, and Jazz Band. Now I play at church and old folks homes. Hint, you want to see your music being appreciated? Don't try out for the mega church band. Too much competition and egos to deal with. Find a small church with less than a hundred folks preferably old and hearing aids in every pew. They'll appreciate your music, if it's not too loud. Same with old folks homes. Getting old can be lonely.
You are so right on! Whether it's a deep shed session, or revisiting a favorite tune, or exploring new ideas, we can let the music/our instrument clear our heads a bit and give us ideas, maybe finding a new musical path now and then. Your vids are a fun hang. Gotta also say your intro and outro quick graphics look and sound extremely cool, reminds me of the arcade game ROBOTRON from early 80's, a favorite game from that time.
Joe Pass is the sh*t. I have the "Joe Pass Virtuoso Standards Songbook Collection" sitting two feet to my right on my desk. I just like looking through it to see what he plays over changes and I just soak it up.

💯 Brother! I'm between "day jobs" last couple of months. Instead of being down I see all this free time as an opportunity to catch up on a bunch of music stuff. Last week or so I've been learning how to play VH and Randy Rhoades songs I've always wanted to play. If not that then I'm jamming and writing new riffs/ideas for songs I just do it for me too. Just because it's what I do and love it. If not that then I'm improving my chops, musicianship getting my fingers to play things I couldn't before. Like you said once you get past the simple effort to pick the thing up. It IS rewarding. Every day I just want to keep that momentum going. It's the best possible thing to be addicted to. Great talk brother 🤘💯
@badbrad Amen brother. Was thinking about this exact thing a few weeks back... the only constant in the course of my life, the one thing that was with me no matter what, was guitar. The guitar has been like a lighthouse and saved me from many "shipwrecks".
Ronnie Wood said it's better to play 15 minutes a day rather than a hour and forty-five minutes once a week (or some such formula). I'm no pro, and I just strum basic cowboy chords, but I try to play my guitar every day, even for a few minutes, because it is soothing, just like you say.
Such a simple solution, Easier Sung than Done! BUT it’s so TRUE! I noticed when I get in a low state last thing I feel like doing is picking up a guitar, & singing a song… BUT that’s the first thing I should be doing . FOOD 4 the SOUL!! Music is Soul Food I’m like a 3-wheeled automobile. Something’s just NOT right! Without music. Without a Song Play On!!! I suck on guitar, but I still pluck away. I say pluck it.
Well Said BB! 2nd your doing much better than me with your exercise. 3rd My son lived in the Tampa area for 20 years and I came to learn in FL if there is standing water and its wet there is a gator 🐊 in it. And YES that was a gator
Great advice I’ve been using for over 40 years. Playing most of the time will change your perspective on a certain challenge you’re confronted with, but it will always buy you time to keep from doing something stupid (or illegal).🤦🏻♂️
Just walked out my studio finished playing some Bryan Adam’s on my Brand New Nord Stage 5 feel much better after the learning of a great ballad. Set my drums down few months ago as I found out I have a good enough voice to sing. Other musicians who have issues can really knock you down because of their own insecurities. They can be really hard on the drummer. I’m not bitter just decided to really establish myself as a good vocalist and piano guy. So I’m building up my song library of all the long lost songs that people want to hear. If I can take them on a musical sing along journey with me then I can make some thing beautiful out of some of those rough times. I have always been back behind the kit which I love but have always known I had more gifts to offer. Sold off my kits to by this beautiful instrument and so this is a new chapter in my life. Going to play anywhere as music is medicine the world needs to heal with. It heals me I’m 62 now but being able to choose what I want to play when and where is freedom 😂
DAMN, I've lived in North Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin all my life. Look at the beautiful day in Florida, thought you were in Nashville. It's fucking cold up hear. Thanks for the inspiration your views are so right.
playing and singing after work is the only thing that keeps me going. I post on YT sometimes....ppl say I sound just like Halford on my Judas Priest short... i know it's not much but 11 likes and 651 views makes life feel lighter thanks for the video, your channel is awesome
I'm 69 years old. old and have played in every type of band in all types of venues for decades. Now I do exactly what you say. Hardly a day goes by when I don't pick up my bass. Sadly, the music scene has all but disappeared in my area. Especially since covid, most of the venues never reopened. I grew up in an era where, after the Beatles appeared on Ed Sullivan, every kid bought a guitar and formed a band. Now it doesn't happen but rearly. I'll play as long as I can pick up my instrument.
I agree brother grab that instrument, go for a nice walk which by the way it’s looks way better in your area then mine lol but yea . Keep grinding everyone 🥁🎸
Indeed. Before I started a family I was definitely going for rock star guitar hero. But I never stopped playing. Now we are empty nesters, and I play more now than ever. I run into the old gang and they're all surprised I'm still playing. I dont get it? Why stop if you loved it in the first place? And with technology today it's easier than ever and in some ways even more fun. My demos sound pro now!
A lot of older ladies get attacked by gators walking their little dogs by a body of water. They probably start looking at their phones while the dog sniffs around and the gator sneaks up on them. 6 deaths in 8 years here in SC.
That’s not bad stats though. That the gator migrated that far to SC is crazy. But in Florida the gators are pretty chill. People don’t get bit unless they try to play with them. Always look for snakes they like to hang out on sidewalks
I'm glad it gets cold enough up here to keep the riff raff out, I mean, myself excluded. Thanks for the pep talk Brad. Always good to hear your words of encouragement. Everyday life can really bring you down, even when things aren't really all that bad.
The trends come and go friend of mine was talking about EVH and how he invented tapping i said listen to this put on an old recording of Johnny Winter from like 69 he's tapping and alot of other stuff i said thats about 10 years before EVH don't get me wrong Eddie was great in his own way he was an absolute virtuoso on guitar but there were others before and will be others after .
I’ve been playing guitar for over 50 years…every day. The guitar has given me a lifetime of more joy and satisfaction than I could ever explain. As Del Paxton said to Guy Patterson in the movie “That Thing You Do”…..”Keep on playing”. It’s been my salvation in life. You said you played with Gary Lewis. I saw a UA-cam of him on Ralph Emery in 1990 and his lead was playing a green Strat. Was that you?
Oh holy crap. I’m sitting here in my recliner watching my wife sleep on the couch. Just beyond the couch sits my B3 that I haven’t turned on in 5 years . Between family and all of life’s BS and health problems there she sits. Sometimes I feel like I got nothing inside me good enough to turn that B on and crank the Leslie . This video comes at a good time . Thanks Brad
@ I called a friend , he’s another keyboard guy, and we’re gonna oil both Leslie and B tone generator and give her a go. Funny thing my wife was just asking why I don’t sing to her anymore like I used to. Now I’m looking at throat surgery in four weeks and the surgeon warned that my voice might not be the same. 🤷♂️ man Wth . Guess it is what it is. Anyway thanks Brad for sharing your hard won insight.
A gator? Maybe? You live in gator country. Maybe gators get the blues too. For them, blues probably means lunchtime. Guitar saved me more times than I can name. You're right, one of the best times to play is when you're down and the last thing you want to do is pick the guitar up and make sounds. Music can move energy. When you boil it down, energy is what we are.
I dont play near enough. I mean i go on streaks, ill play alot for a few months, and then put it down for a few. I figure heck im a trucker, im 57, the stones prob never gonna call...😀
You might want to stay away from the edges of water bodies in gator country. Those gator's can move very fast when they want to. I agree exercise is very important and being able to play an instrument is too. When I was very depressed (almost to the point of taking my life), I would go for walks like you are doing here. It helped a lot, especially walking trails in parks.
I started learning at twelve and went ahead in leaps and bounds then, at fifteen I put it down as if I had never touched a guitar only to start again playing in an original Ramones-type band for four years at twenty five . . then to put it away for TWENTY more . . it was never the life-companion it should have been - even after ppl said wow you can play . . it is now, and at seventy, I play in an outfit where it's all off-the cuff and scary live stuff . . and I play five days a week at home . . the other two days are deliberate, to re-charge, and on those days I am like a cat on a hot tin roof itching to play, going out of my mind with anticipation . . it's my life-companion and saviour lol now
@@badbrad thx, but of course my joy is tinged with regret at wtf I was doing not being a player during those years . . I mean I went out to see live music lots, I knew ppl in bands but for some bizarre reason I didn't EVEN PLAY AT HOME . .I dno, anyway I feel I'm making up for lost time in a way and I often go back and revise the basics as well as push on . . we do all original stuff now where the other guitarist always plays to my right so I can't even see what he's playing; it's all live, all by ear and the female singer writes lyrics minutes before we go on haha . . we're the Fierce Urgency Of Now
Man I've had stress at work that made me cramp up all over.....the only thing that will calm me down is playing my guitar.....sex won't do it But guitar will.....it's crazy
Greetings from Sierra Vista Arizona 🤠 cowboys and......girls. Eye enjoyed OUR walk Brad! Eye got that damn sciatica and a stroll thru Walmart does me in. 😡 Another back surgery could go good or bad and I'm not yet willing to roll the dice. That was a cool little hike you did. 🙏 Definitely gator bro. 😁
The guitar has always been there for me. People who don’t play an instrument will never fully understand. I stopped trying to explain it.

Sunning gator, good name for a band. Thanks Brad you make us smile.
Great idea! Thank you!
We definitely need the kind of music that a band of that name would make! A CCR that’s legit.

I agree brother grab that instrument, go for a nice walk which by the way it’s looks way better in your area then mine lol but yea . Keep grinding everyone 🥁🎸
YES!
Man you are so right. It’s more fun now.
A lot of older ladies get attacked by gators walking their little dogs by a body of water. They probably start looking at their phones while the dog sniffs around and the gator sneaks up on them. 6 deaths in 8 years here in SC.
Wow!😮
I'm in Jacksonville, FL, and yea, that's very unfortunate. I couldn't tell if that was a gator, but it could have been.
That’s not bad stats though. That the gator migrated that far to SC is crazy. But in Florida the gators are pretty chill. People don’t get bit unless they try to play with them. Always look for snakes they like to hang out on sidewalks
If a gator charges you it’s very easy to get away. Run zigzag.
That was before my time with Gary….
@ I searched Gary Lewis and the Playboys on UA-cam and your photo came right up in the promo.
Thanks Brad
You can do it Jeff...how about some Christmas music....
The Blues..is when your woman 👠 💋💔aint there .and that guitar is waiting 💯❤️🔥🎸
Oh ya!
Sound advice bro
Appreciate that

A gator?
So true!
Playing guitar saved my life.
Right on!👍🏻
I dont play near enough. I mean i go on streaks, ill play alot for a few months, and then put it down for a few.
I figure heck im a trucker, im 57, the stones prob never gonna call...😀
I hear you man, it's a struggle to get back into the groove.
Hi mate, im a new subscriber, i love your videos
Thanks for subscribing, I’m glad you’re here!
I've always considered playing guitar a form of meditation for people who cant meditate, it used to be sports but alas we all grow old.
So true....I feel the same.
Play the drum a little bit louder. Tell them they can live without her if they only listen to the band. ~ the Monkees (1969)
Yes
I started learning at twelve and went ahead in leaps and bounds then, at fifteen I put it down as if I had never touched a guitar only to start again playing in an original Ramones-type band for four years at twenty five . . then to put it away for TWENTY more . . it was never the life-companion it should have been - even after ppl said wow you can play . . it is now, and at seventy, I play in an outfit where it's all off-the cuff and scary live stuff . . and I play five days a week at home . . the other two days are deliberate, to re-charge, and on those days I am like a cat on a hot tin roof itching to play, going out of my mind with anticipation . . it's my life-companion and saviour lol now
That’s great!

That Riff you played at the beginning? It sounds like you stayed in Nashville a little too long LOL
Man I've had stress at work that made me cramp up all over.....the only thing that will calm me down is playing my guitar.....sex won't do it
But guitar will.....it's crazy
👍🏻
❤
Thank you!
Hi
hello
Greetings from Sierra Vista Arizona 🤠 cowboys and......girls. Eye enjoyed OUR walk Brad! Eye got that damn sciatica and a stroll thru Walmart does me in. 😡 Another back surgery could go good or bad and I'm not yet willing to roll the dice. That was a cool little hike you did. 🙏 Definitely gator bro. 😁
