Society is in great need of teachers like Seneca and the Stoic philosophers. I Especially love "don't let your pleasures (junk food/gluttony, television, internet/social media, spending, self-indulgence ....) become your punishments"! I like to take the converse of that one and say 'let your punishments (exercise, fasting, thrift, study, hard work and all the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune) become your pleasures!" It does a body good!!! 💪💪💪❤

Well said, Brian. Thank you for spreading the word about Stoicism. It has changed my life. I am constantly shocked that more people are not aware of this philosophy.

i can see why you have so many subscribers if most your videos are like this one! timely for me. guilty your honor of trying to fix ALL of me at once. at 65 i applaud myself for even "trying" to make positive changes in my life. i am aware of the gravitational pull to do same things same way. i also realize this is MY journey, i have no right to impose nor get upset when i am not followed by family or friends. thanks so much man for this!

***** Always looking to learn new things and the fact you offer it for free is amazing! I do have a question though: what advice would you give to your 20 year old self about; life, work, love, happiness? Anything? :D

    • @HeroicBrian
      @HeroicBrian  9 років тому +1

Oliver Benson Right on, Oliver! So great you're so passionate about this at 20! If I could hang out with the 20 year old version of me, I would start by convincing him to rock the fundamentals: Exercise + Nutrition + Rest. All things optimal hinge on those. Then I'd get him to meditate daily. And I'd give him access to all the stuff I've created here and tell him to download it snappy like: brianjohnson.me/membership/
(If you'd like access and cash is an issue, email support@brianjohnson.me and let Zak know I asked him to hook you up!)

***** Wow thanks Brian! I've already bought your Philosophy Notes, Optimal Living 101, and A Philosopher's Notes Ebook over a year ago and I'm still going through those at the moment! One question I do have is it's possible get a refund on them? Please don't think I don't appreciate the wisdom you've shared - I would love to keep learning but would greatly appreciate having some of the money back because I'm a student. Hope that's ok. I'm finding the philosopher notes really useful at the moment and I appreciate all the knowledge you share, but as I said, I am struggling with money atm :S

***** Hi Brian, I sent this email to Zak at support@brianjohnson.me
      "Hi Zak!
Brian Johnson mentioned I should message you if money was an issue. I'm a student at the moment. I love learning as much as I can which is why I've been using the philosopher notes, the ebook, and optimal living for well over a year now!
Unfortunately I'm at a point in my life where I'm struggling with money. I'd still love to be a member and Brian mentioned that it was a possibility because it'd be great if I could!
I was also wondering if there's a chance to get a refund on the philosopher notes, ebook, and optimal living because I'd find it amazing if I could!
      Thanks for reading,
      Ollie!"
Hope that's ok. Thanks for replying! :)

Every circumstance and every failure carries with it self an obstacle and a opportunity. If you are in jail get to know your self or write a book. Do the best of every situation in life no matter how dark it is there is an opportunity in it if you look for it you have to spot it.

Sorry, I find it difficult to believe Seneca used phrases like "metaphysical glutton" and "positive negativity". It seems you made that up.
If you can cite in which letters he does I shall stand corrected.

Your happines is found inside not outside, because happines is a part of your brain. If you eat unhealthy food you will feel good one hour. If you restrain the urge to eat the food you will feel good 24 hours and you save that money.
