I used the double sided tape for awhile (trying several different kinds etc) and i didn't think the glue trick would hold, but I had problems with the double sided tape with it not holding sometimes which resulted in ruining my piece, then at other times not being able to separate the pieces (probably because then i was over taping), but finally it was because i would run out when i needed it the most and I can't buy good double sided tape locally. I went to the glue/stick fast way and I have to say, I don't see going back. Works like a champ and i can always find regular tape, thin CA locally and a large can of stick fast accelerator lasts me for 6-8mos. I get it though, to each their own. I'm not pushing it on anyone. Do what works for ya. Love the videos and Thank you for them, i look for them everyday
Would love to see you do , unless you already did one and I missed it, a segment on doing the neck angle/body/ bridge that is the part that always gives me grief. You showed it quickly in one that showed a bunch of necks and bodies done quickly with different bridges but you went fast as to what to look angle wise. I remember you do all your body joints one inch deep and carve the back of tenon with the angle but how deep does neck tenon have to be and getting the angle to different bridges is the part I have trouble with. Thanks in advance. Will drop some cash in the till since have watched a lot of your videos.
I know this is an old video but I'm still gonna ask: I'm trying to build my first guitar atm and my neck blank is about 28mm thick (maybe 25 or so after plaining). Will I have enough material left underneath the pickup route for a construction like this or should I just go bolt on instead? I don't want to set the neck/fretboard too far into the body for upper fret access so I'm not sure what would be my best option here.
I always wondered how you did that, I assumed it was done separately, but if you have a tight enough neck joint it makes sense to do it this way …. pretty cool !!!
@@TexasToastGuitars …ok… the thickness of the tape doesn't mess with the final depth of the cut ???? you pocket looked very precise when you were finished…no step between the neck and the body...
@@TexasToastGuitars Hmmmm...Ok. I'm at a level of trying to transition from like warmoth assemblies and partscaster mods to doing a build with mdf templates. My goals is a '72 deluxe where you'd be able to switch out between a T-O-M/stoptail, and a Vibramate/B5 with probably the schaller roller bridge in the T-O-M layout. I do not like shims, long story. Using mdf templates, is it easier to angle the neck heel area, the pocket, or recess the bridge?
Now that I got my new, (hopefully ) soon to be Beloved duplicator carver thingy, maybe I can try and use it with this with body on one side and stylus following routing template.
The pin router is quite cool it looks like a converted vertical arm drill / milling machine, I'm an engineer by trade, what has been the worst duck up compared to a standard router, my worst was when I was routing out one of my solid body Banjos and the depth stop threw its hand in and plunged so deeply into the wood it tore into the work and sent it off like a spiked frizby before I'd got past the letter F... 😂

I hate routing soooo much. So messy and one slip and you’re done. I use a drill press and an assortment of brad point and Forstner bits then chisels. Nice video and thanks!

Fantastic. We love the details. Thanks Matt.
My pleasure!
Great video Matt, can you do a video on how you measure your neck pocket tilt/bridge angle, on that guitar?
Sure thing!
@@TexasToastGuitars I would love to see how the angle is routed and the templates used. Awesome channel guys!

You make that look so easy!
I have done it a few times
Happy Texas Toast Earth Day!
EARTH FIRST... MAKE MARS OUR BITCH!
Great work. Is the slight neck angle achieved by the neck pocket being angled or the back of the neck?
We do the neck, but it's 6 of one half dozen of the other.
@@TexasToastGuitars Thanks.
Thanks for revealing the Top Secret!

The video i've been waiting for, thanks! I'll definitely have to make a router sled of some kind since I have no beloved pin router.
Go for it!

Even if you don't have a super tight neck joint... you can always double stick tape it into the pocket

Hey, I am new, discovered your stuff through the "Start with excellence" guy. Do you have a video of the routing of an angled neck pocket?
Hi Aaron, thanks for watching. I don't know if I do or don't have that video. We generally put the angle on the neck

I love watching that pin router. I want one bad.
It is a pretty slick tool
Would this be considered a long or a short tenon neck?

Bit of numb question but how deep do you cut the pickup cavity?
depends on the pickups p-90s are usually .625 humbuckers are usually .750 with 1 wings
Thats great and all but, EBO!
Just Fuckin with you guys!!
Keep save!
Thanks for the videos!
Yeah, I'm not going to finish the EBO
Just fucking with you
Just wondering if that's a standard les paul shape because your using a full tenon?
No, this is a different neck joint than Gibson uses

The pin router was built to be a pin router but I can see how one might think it is a converted contraption... it is old school, just like me.
The tenon are screwd or glued??
You can do either or and in fact we do.
Having said that when we screw the necks in we use maple
@@TexasToastGuitars Ok but for my next guitar i want rosewood or mahogany for the neck also.
Matt that was slicker than Snot on a Doorknob****
I try

I do it the same way, but with a template and plunge router, since I don’t have a beloved pin router.
Templates and plunge routers kick ass

Damned if you didn't make this look easy.

I was going to say whale shit in an ice flow
Why not just move the pickup an inch further away from the neck? Tonally it should not make a lot of difference.
How would that be cooler?
Slicker than snot on glass...lol
What is the advantage? People pay more for deep tenon.
