@@miner4236 Diesels just a couple decades ago were such slow and useless dogs for anything else than economy and torque. When that car was brand new, it was amazing that you can actually spin wheels, drift, decently accelerate or do anything "fun" with a diesel.
anything's possible.. I'm sure it can make upwards of 500hp if you spend enough money on it.. at some point you'll have to consider whether changing the engine would be a better option though.. the cheapest thing you can do that will get you decent results as a start is to get a tune.. after that, injectors and different/modified turbo and exhaust.. you can probably push close to 300hp without breaking the bank..
@@kafaristm3874 depends on what you go for, you can probably get all that for under 1k. But if you want to go for a more extreme setup and all new parts it can even run more than 3k
@@kafaristm3874 like I said, it all depends on what parts you go for and what you're willing to get used and parts fabricated to fit/work together.. a turbo for my 2016 5 series costs 1500, a similar turbo for my 2014 A4 from the same manufacturer costs 600.. both would work on any other engine if you're willing to make it work
We are talking about cars that are approx. 30 years old, but they are fun to drive. Not to compare with modern cars. Nevertheless, if you get one witch has been treated well, go for it. The most important, drive the engine warm and drive it "cold", you never will.have any issues. Don't forget to check about rust, that is mostly the biggest problem. @@gorankrstevski964 Okay thanks, and how comfortable do you think it is? Because it would be my main car and I'd also ride longer distances quite regularly. I know you can't compare it to modern cars, but I dont have high standards anyway, I'm used to being in a 330d E46 and that car was completely fine for me comfort-wise.
The E46 is for sure the better car in terms of comfort, but if it helps you make your decision in any way, I've been driving mine for 1400km in 14 hours in one trip. @@nitroheal5903 Overheating is usually caused by poor maintenance. I have the entire cooling system cleaned + a new radiator and there is no overheating. I regularly drive it on track days and no problem even after 25 min stints 🙂 it's all about maintenance and proper handling of the engine.
Btw, I'm not denying that the mentioned problems are not real. But since I assembled the engine myself, none of the problems have occurred. On earlier engines, the head gasket blew, but I attribute that to poor assembly or low-quality parts. And I've never had a head explode in the roughly 8 years I've owned a tds.
Nice! Not bad for the fastest production diesel of its time
not sure "not bad" and "for the fastest" really go together that well
